    Wow. So much! The asymmetries of U17 vs 29y.o. and HS vs Olympian, the standing choke out; the pin in Greco; the yellow card to a coach, the handshake refusal, the red card. Any of these is by itself Very Rare; all in a match makes this incredible. Wow.
    Congrats to Joel.

      getting choked out doesn't have to knock you out for hours or anything. You can notice they lifted his legs back up to try and get more blood pressure to his upper body, thus increasing blood supply to his brain. It just takes a moment or two to recover, especially if you were only knocked out for maybe 15-30 seconds.

You can't kick someone in boxing, and you can't choke someone out in wrestling. There are a whole host of techniques that are against the rules in wrestling, including when you can lock your hands, etc. There have been many events in wrestling where people did something obscure which lead to a reset, penalty, or points awarded. It has not changed the game much. Most rule changes have been to improve the sport's watchability, mainly.

      That’s not necessarily true, all of our top freestyle guys tend to shit their pants when foreigners try to take it upper body. Look at bill Ferrell international and watch the guy from Kazakhstan demolish some of our top guys solely going upper body. That guy isn’t even the top dog in his country. US wrestling as a whole just doesn’t stress the importance of upper body. Put Spencer lee against max nowry and I wouldn’t be surprised if max techs him. Put JB or KD against kamal bey and watch kamal take the W against both and dakes actually pretty good at greco. They’re just too different and every country knows if you want to beat the US take the match to the upper body. It’s not who’s on the team that’s the problem. It’s that we don’t have enough exposure in the US and we don’t have enough people paying attention to greco which, overall, makes the competition significantly weaker. Our top guys would still most likely be the top guys if our freestyle guys switched but it would most certainly make everyone better

    Can someone educate me? I don't watch a lot of Greco, and tbh not really a fan. But this was amazing beginning to end. I'm curious about the throw...am I on track with thinking Sancho was going for a bear hug straight to back and the kid, Adams was fast enough to immediately realize the opportunity for the toss? The thing that really caught me off guard was the amount of commitment to it that wasn't necessarily desperation, but more opportunistic, meaning it seemed like that was practiced and felt before to where even after going unconscious, this clicked for him as a "go to." Yes, it takes skilled athleticism to pull this off, but I'm also in amazement with the wherewithal Joel Adams had here in this situation. Just impressive in so many ways. But again I don't watch a lot of Greco, so am I wrong to think this is uncommon? I appreciate anyone who read this and replies with helpful knowledge =)

    I only wrestled through high school. I was a good wrestler, but by no means elite. Still I won a lot of matches by knocking out or driving the wind out of an opponent with what were legal moves at the time. Not once was my opponent allowed time to recover and continue the match. That was a different style and a different time, so maybe my experience doesn’t apply.

    • @calihawk82
      @calihawk82 Před rokem +1

      agreed. several times i or saw others choke someone out in a headlock, pinned them, match over. letting him recover? that's insane. he's choked out legally that's a pin - if it's an illegal move then that's another story. but yeah i wrestled HS and D1 college 96-2004

  • @wrestlerkun
    @wrestlerkun Před rokem +9

    What a strange decision. Noose grip hip toss is legal technik in Greco and it should score regardless of opponent's reaction. If i suddenly broke a guy's rib with a gut wrench it is a two point anyway. I acted within the rules, so if he can't continue because of that rib injury than he lose.

    • @whynotride327
      @whynotride327 Před rokem +1

      So choking is within the rules??

    • @wrestlerkun
      @wrestlerkun Před rokem +1

      @@whynotride327 Trapping head and arm with both hands is legal, trapping head or neck without an arm is only allowed with one hand. That is what rules say about the situation.
      You say me, if a rib is broken while perfoming a gut wrench or bearhug drop does it mean that gut wrench or bear hug are illegal techniks and shouldn't be scored in case of injuries?

    • @whynotride327
      @whynotride327 Před rokem +2

      @@wrestlerkun At NO point did I say that. If the gut wrench is legal, and a rib is broken, the move should score. No issue.
      However, you are comparing apples and oranges. This is not MMA and a choke is not a legal move. Whether you use one arm or two makes zero difference, the choke is not legal.
      We can not tell for sure but it looks like (and the officials thought so) that the choke was the reason he went to his back. Neither you nor I can tell from this angle.
      Sorry you don't agree but if chokes were legal they would be used much more frequently.
      BTW, it is spelled "techniques".

      @whynotride327 Před rokem +1

      @@wrestlerkun If Russian is your native language, I understand and I am sorry.
      Front headlock turns, is there a choke involved? If there is not a choke, no problem
      If there is a choke, it is an illegal move.
      Quite simple really, any choke or hold over the carotid artery is illegal by rule.
      You can not use an illegal move to score or advance your position.

    Not a fan of either but the kid should of been pinned or have to forfeit after being unconscious. What this is telling wrestlers is if you get put in a sticky situation just act like your unconscious.
