  • In this video, I will cover the basics of static seismic analysis and different factors required to calculate the base shear and design lateral force following the guidelines of Indian code. I will discuss about static seismic criteria, minimum base shear, seismic weight and distribution of base shear at floor.
For analysis and design of any structure (concrete, steel or composite) which is in low or high seismic prone area, we need to perform a detailed seismic analysis and based on the analysis results, design the member/connection. Static seismic analysis is one of the easiest method of earthquake force consideration but it is not only limited to that. For dynamic analysis and seismic detailing, we need static seismic inputs. There are 15 different inputs required for IS1893:2016 code and if any incorrect input is assigned, that may lead to unsafe design.

Very good info. ..what command (or procedure) is used to obtain the shear forces and moments of each wall (concrete or masonry) for each story.

There is no separate command, if you model the RC walls using plate mesh, during analysis correct force (plate stress) will be calculated from FEA and that analysis results will be used for shear wall design in Advanced concrete designer (RCDC). For URM infill wall, you need to model it using equivalent diagonal strut to consider the wall stiffness during analysis.

It is already in my plan and once the static part is over, I will start a separate series on dynamic analysis.
