    For what it’s worth, the Mopar harness being sold now is all woven together into one piece, and is actually run outside the Jeep along the frame rail on the passenger side.
    This was a fact I didn’t pick up on until I’d taken apart all the interior trim. It was a huge moment of frustration as one might expect.
    Your video was to be my saving grace since the Mopar instructions leave much to be desired.

    Great detailed video! Heads up to anyone doing this the red wire you run from the fuse box to the back can ark even if battery is disconnected, I’d put the eyelet on stud last and if it arks and lights don’t work check the fuse that runs off that eyelet it’s in that wrapped connector that you zip tie next to engine if it blows gets a new 30amp fuse.

    The new harness hitch was very easy to install, it took a little bit of time, but not hard at all. Some people on the comments make it seem like it'll be very hard to get it done, but don't get discouraged like I did at the begging. I bought a $50 dollar tool kit since I didn't have any tools and it was just enough to get it install. I wish the instructions were easier to understand, but after reading everything and taking my time under the jeep i was able to figure it out.

    The new wiring kit is easier to install, but the directions are horrible (just abstract pictures). I used this video to help clarify how to unlock wiring connectors on the driver side taillight. Also with both kits, be careful to use trailer hitches that do not interfere with large housing bracket for the 4 & 7 way outlets; the mounting holes are predrilled into the rear frame and are very close to the hitch mounting holes, so harness 82216359aa is not compatible with many non-Mopar hitches. JEEP WRANGLER JL NEW BODY 7 WAY TRAILER TOW WIRING HARNESS 82216359AA really needs it's own CZcams video...

    STOP THE PRESS!!! There is a NEW HARNESS! They finally figured out that this is a terrible design and now all of the wiring is done on the exterior. Unfortunately we did not look at our "updated" harness and instructions and spent way too much time taking out trim for no reason. The 2020 is a little different from this Jeep--some of the clips. I'm stuck on the grommet. It's sealed pretty good around existing wires on the outside. Probably going to have to unwrap them and then wrap them back up. Also, the Jeep toolkit doesn't include the panel tool or the tool for the T25s. I used an Allen key for the T25s. The kit for the wiring harness should come with a plastic panel tool considering the price of the kit. The Christmas trees aren't likely to break. They do break. Those should be included too.

    2:31 it is absolutely not necessary to mess with the interior trim. Also, Mopar harness now has all wires and fuse wrapped up in outdoor-rated tape. Simply tie new wires to existing wires running under the car. The only item that needs popping off is rear lights and a few tabs, if the car has inner fender liner. Please follow included Mopar instructions. This guy’s process is discouragingly complex.

    Like I said on other videos that I’ve seen. Do you not have a cigarette 12 V plug right by the back tail light it could be either constantly on or switched. Does that not run to the battery itself. It’s got to be powerful enough people plugging coolers into that. I get it if you’re gonna plug in a seven pin and charge a battery in the back but for flat pin I don’t think you need that. your manual says you shouldn’t be towing heavy duty trailers anyway so why would you need trailer brakes? Unless you got a 392 with upgraded axles.

    Excellent video and great added comments by viewers referencing the newer MOPAR wiring harness. At the end of your installation, did you have to flash, or program, the CPU to recognize the installed wiring harness? I'm reading information about a "Tazer JL Mini" that is supposed to be able to allow the owner to program things like this on their own, although the unit is $329, making the dealership reprogram pricing from about $90 (seen in comments below) to $198 as quoted by my Jeep dealership if they reprogram my computer. I have a bit more research to do on the best route to go, but my new MOPAR towing harness kit is on it's way in, along with our new Wrangler 4XE...lots to learn and plan for. Thank you in advance for any information on the programming you may be able to provide. Regards, Paul

    Instructions don’t really explain well what to do with this blue cable.
    Does this mean I have a trailer brake system or that is something else that I would have to add to the system.
    I’m little confused can you please explain the trailer brake situation?

  • @ChrisSheltonQigong
    @ChrisSheltonQigong Před 3 lety

    I'm contradicting myself because this video is helpful and, at the same time, not accurate for the 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL?! Meaning if you move forward with the installation yourself, you will have to make some modifications to the wiring harness. Unfortunately, Mopar redesigned the wiring harness after this video was created and Mopar's limited instructions have you running the wiring harness underneath the vehicle instead of inside the cabin. Unfortunately, I did not unbundle the wiring harness until I had completely disassembled my interior and didn't realize it until it was too late. So, if you want to have a more professional install and run the harness through the cabin, this video is excellent for showing you how to do that. The problem is that Mopar has the red power wire securely tapped to the black ground wire and the light blue wire for the parking brake. And they are all the same length! It took me about an hour to separate about 3/4 of the red wire from the other two. I had to splice the red wire to attach it to the fuse box to run into the engine compartment because the transistor on the red wire is too big to try to run into the cabin. I had to make some other adjustments. The other problem was that the 7-way trailer connector that connects and drops down from the rear passenger taillight wasn't long enough to reach the 7-way trailer bracket. The bracket is supposed to be bolted on the driver's side of the hitch. Therefore I had to drill and tap the frame on the passenger side of the hitch and connect the trailer bracket there. Frustrating and a good learning experience at the same time. It took me about nine hours for the install.

    Mr jeep is still live until you disconnect the wire he said to not disconnect at the fuse box terminals. This is the auxiliary battery wire going to a second battery well well hidden behind the wheel well liner. The dealers don’t even know this. - my jeep became electronically locked up , and the dealer couldn’t disconnect all power to computer until I figured this out the hard way….

    The new kit comes with one harness and you cannot pass it through the grommet, neither do you have to run the wiring inside under the trim.

    • @rambokd
      @rambokd Před 4 lety

      Found it you basically use the blue wire to connect to the controller...the standard appears to be the blue wire...anyway the controller will require 12v from battery a ground and then tap into the cold brake wire so it knows when brakes are being applied

      @@rambokd The controller? Not sure what you are describing?

    • @rambokd
      @rambokd Před 4 lety

      Sean Hartnett the blue wire will be connected to a brake controller if in the future you purchase one. There isn’t an integrated brake controller on the Jeep. If you search for brake controller installation you will understand what I’m describing..otherwise just roll up and store it you won’t need it to be connected anywhere.

    Any idea what the blue wire will be for? It’s routed under the passenger side/glove box and supposed to be for adding a brake controller but the factory installed version has a plug for the controller under the drivers side. Haven’t found any install information for using the blue wire?

    • @rambokd
      @rambokd Před 4 lety +1

      Never mind I think I figured it out...basically it’s connected to the controller for output to the trailer brakes..the controller requires 3 other wires..ground, batt and cold brake input so it knows when brakes are applied and to control the brakes on the trailer

    • @theviewfrommyhammock
      @theviewfrommyhammock Před 3 lety

      So if you have a pig tail that goes from your break controller to the connection under the dash at the driver side, where does the blue wore get contacted at?

    • @rambokd
      @rambokd Před 3 lety

      @@theviewfrommyhammock Is this for a 2018 or so Jeep?..It depends on if you have factory installed or you did it yourself. If you added it yourself the blue wire will go to the pigtail wire for trailer brake application..there should be a ground input, a power input and a wire that goes to the brake switch so it knows when to apply the power to the blue wire..hope this helps

      With the new harness your only option is to run it along the right frame rail of your Jeep, no dismantling of the interior required.

      @@erinboston9636 Instead of running the wiring exposed along the frame of my Jeep, I fished it inside through the entire length of the hollow tube frame and used the access holes in the frame to access and run the wiring. Its a much cleaner look and I'm not worried about the wiring snagging on something and ripping loose. To fish the wiring through the frame I used a flexible electrical fishing snake.

      @Rickwallace1478 Před 2 lety

      Yes, I put it on my 2022 4Xe, and it works great. I also installed a Mopar brake controller but cannot seem to get it to work. I think the blue wire he puts in the glove box has something to do with it. I cannot find a video that explains that wire. The trailer lights do work though and you will tun it under the jeep not through the interior.

    Just fyi this video IS NOT CORRECT for 2021 and newer vehicles if you follow this you WILL end up having to remove and redo your wiring you will come up short in the end.
