"Cat Sh*t" as good a description as it gets! It is always at that time of might these type of jobs come along.
I had one at 8:30pm and it would not fire, after we took out 80 gallons of water we got oil finally coming through.
Interesting to see an oil burner running with some water still mixed with the oil coming through.
Very bright sparks when water came through. Stayed for half an hour with it running and I reckoned if it ran that long it would run without any more problems. The burner was a lot bigger that that though, it had to heat a very big church.
It was 1;30AM or I got away from that one. All I can say is I hope they were warm next day as the building got a heat up the Friday night. I think they had a load of kids in for something next morning and afternoon.
Must have kept going as didn't hear otherwise.

Heard vacuum as soon as he opened the bleeder. Plugged/ frozen line. Also over time the tanks gather sludge naturally from moisture from the vents. As the boiler uses fuel it draws outside air. Moisture and all. If the tanks were replaced and the fuel from the old tank(s) was pumped back in, the new tanks start their life off with the same problems. On the genesys control if you hold the reset down until the yellow pump purge light comes on, let off of it for half a second and push it for a half second again, the primary goes into pump prime which gives you four minutes where the control kind of ignores the cad cell and opens the solenoid. Makes it a little less stressful to bleed.

Put the end of the line from at the pump into your bucket and open up the tank valve and flush all that shit outta the line with a cup or two of oil. Then re-hook up your line to the pump.

You get a real cold spell & the water freezes in the line. Last year I had to put a turbo torch to her fuel line for about 30 minutes before I thawed it out. Pretty interesting to be putting full flame to a combustible fuel line in -40 degree weather!!!!! It for the faint of heart

Generally, oil techs do not mess with the oil line during annual maintenance. The system can be cleaned yearly and the oil line get gunked up like that. The longer the oil line, the greater the sludge build up. One thing I would have done differently, take off the oil pump cover and check the oil pump strainer. Then with the oil line connected to the cover, put it in the dish and turn then turn the oil on. The sludge that is still in the line will drain into the dish. As a 30 year master technician, I have been there, done that multiple times.

I know in long term fuel storage situations for emergency Diesel generators you may have oil set for years. It will get a growth, bacteria? that will cause sludge issues. I had one site that continuously filtered the oil on what was called a clean fuel system. It filtered to 2 micron and separated water out. They also make a bacteriostat additive to stop that for diesel, not sure about k1. May be the same stuff.
