    After fighting this issue for years, I finally swapped the head out for a Husqvarna T35 and its a night and day difference. Wish I did it sooner.

    I have the identical DeWalt string trimmer and have had the exact same issue crop up. What seems to have remedied the internal bird nest of trimmer line was a switch to Maxpower twisted .08 line and only loading up to no more than 7 feet total length. So far so good, and yes, that spool cap is one tough bugger to remove!

    • @SparkyChannel
      @SparkyChannel  Před 2 lety +3

      Sounds good! I'm going to try the Echo .095 Black Diamond line next. Yes, I think going with a shorter length of line is a wise move.

  • @begunn

    To wind the new string the instructions say to "secure the spool cap from moving with one hand. Using your other hand , wind the string into the spool by rotating the spool head counter clockwise". Same results as your method, but you don't have to contend with the string flopping around. Instructions also say you can use up to 25 feet of string.
    I want to thank you for a video you posted years ago about your success in getting a warranty replacement of a defective type 1 DeWalt string trimmer. My warranty replacement was a DCST920 that is still going strong after 5 years of use.

    Well, this problem started happening right after I re-stringed it. Every few minutes of use I had to stop and restring it again because there would be no line or only one side coming out. Maybe I’m using the wrong trimmer line? …because I did everything you did and it still keeps happening every few minutes of use.

    Hi Bill, Good video showing how to get a snarled line fixed!
    I may be wrong, it looks like you could run a larger line (check operations manual). And the larger line usually will not get snarled. I have found that "Echo Black Diamond" trimmer string is the best for me. It has out lasted all the other trimmer string I have ever used.
    The trimmer line size I use is 0.095. I don't know if the EBD is available in size 0.080.
    Thank you for another great video!

  • @Mark_Nadams
    @Mark_Nadams Před rokem +4

    My problem is the string advance no longer functions. I got a replacement head and compared the two. Through the process of elimination I have come to the conclusion the mechanism has ingested fine plastic fibers from landscape/weed barrier fabric and they have wound onto the center nut shaft between the bottom plate of the head that you hold to load string and the plastic ring the string comes out of. That string ring needs to move up and down on that center nut shaft about 1/4" to allow the ratchet to advance the string. With the fiber wound onto the shaft I can rock the edges of the string ring back and forth but the center does not travel up and down on the nut's shaft so it locks the ratchet. I have removed what fibers I can get to from the edge and the string ring has a little more freedom. To complete the repair and fix it I need to separate the bottom plate of the head and the string ring and remove the fibers wound onto the shaft.
    - Do you know if that center metal nut comes out of the base or is it molded/swedged in place?

      @jordonperkins6 Před rokem +1

      I have same issue

    • @Mark_Nadams
      @Mark_Nadams Před rokem +1

      @amberwilson3711 I finally got the nut from mine off. Turns out it is a slip fit into the plastic housing so it just pushes out, no twisting involved. 🙄🤦‍♂Once I got that off I could separate the two pieces and I found a huge wad of strings from the weed fabric. I cleaned that out then put it back together and it works just fine. Now that I know how this will become regular maintenance.

    @MichaelJosephJr934 Před 3 měsíci

    I just got the 60v. It's a beast but they should try to design it to be more user friendly. I had to whack a wooded trail with 3 foot tall grasses trail about 60 yards long and 8 feet wide. I had to take apart and uncoil long grasses and had some same issues with line jamming as you are showing. If you're not a bit handy this would be hard to deal with. If you're doing standard weed whacking and trimming I'd get the Worx with preloaded disposable spools. Simple and never clogs. However not for heavy duty jobs.
    BTW great video. You cover everything!

      Haha! You sound just like me, but a whole lot less belligerent regarding this DeWalt String Trimmer. I get it loaded just like in the video, and I make at most 18” of cutting (lawn edging) and the damned thing turns into a bowl of spaghetti. I bought it over four years ago and have come close to chucking it in the garbage about forty times now 🤣

    QUESTION
    Do you believe the line should be stored with some moisture? I have a hard time believing plastic absorbs water.

    • @SparkyChannel
      @SparkyChannel  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes, store the extra line with a little water in the bag to help it not dry out and become brittle. Also, store it in the shade or inside.

    • @emmettturner9452
      @emmettturner9452 Před 2 dny

      As someone with a lot of new and old 3D printer filament: Yes, it absolutely absorbs water. There’s a reason they ship it in vacuum-sealed bags. The filament that has been opened for years snaps when you handle it and prints terribly unless you dry it first with a food dehydrator.

      @carm44035 My spool's holes didn't line up either when using the arrows as a guide. So then I tried aligning the arrows as a beginning spot and looked into the spool's line hole and rotated the spool head about 3/8" right and left. This allowed me to find perfect alignment of the holes. Worked great, and I hope it works for you too!
