    Wow. After watching many of the KaveMan videos on surface agitation & the use of wave makers we just this week ordered and installed one in our tank. Wow. Back story...we’ve been struggling keeping our 20 gallon tank clean. From the start, just murky/cloudy water. We’ve done so many water changes & substrate cleanings and filter cleanings, only to no effect. The tank only has two large Koi, nothing else. Anyhow, once we installed the wavemaker, it immediately kept all the floating matter floating....nothing settled & our HOB filter cleaned it all. It’s been crystal clear sailing. Thanks for the great tip.

    Yo Kev, another great video. So you brought up a great question: What to do if your power runs out??? I have 2 portable power boxes. I have the Oukitel P02001 - 2000 watts of portable power. I also have a smaller version I take to the beach or park to plug in my pellet smoker/grill. That model is the Oukitel CN505 614wh portable power station. 🔋 Amazon has a flex pay, so you can pay over time. I believe there is no interest. Something to consider. No one wants their beautiful fish to die!! I live here in Southern California, San Diego, area not too far from camp Pendleton. We get rolling blackouts during the summer months. I gotta be prepared 👍😊

    Hey. Great Videos and topic. I have a non aquarium related question, but I think you may have expertise to guide me. Im looking to pump air into a a water bucket system, as a way to trap dust on a construction site. Im using this inside a dust collector which Im planning on filling with water.
    Kinda like a water bong, where the debris get aught in the water. So, Im looking for a STRONG pump to keep breaking the surface tension in the way you describe in the video as it relates to the air stone. With hopes to catch the toxic silica dust that is in the air when cutting stone.
    Can you recommend a pump that is durable for pushing alot of air? Perhaps one that is adjustable so I can try to fine tune its effectiveness and water surface agitation.

    Hi Kev has always been a big fan of your detail explanation (keep it up man✌️), may i know whether a big splash (like from the top filter or drip box may cause swim bladder problems for any fish(goldfish) as it may directly splash on them causing them to flip upside down or pushing them away (pressured)?

    • @Lonewolf-ei5yv
      @Lonewolf-ei5yv Před 9 měsíci

      No, water flow doesn't cause swimblader disease in goldfish. It is more complicated than that. many factors like bacterial infection, or internal parasites, but most likely low fiber nutrition. The more fancy the more prone to it. Try feeding vegetables like peas and spinach, lettuce or gel food. You can even make your own gel food from powdered goldfish food and gelatin. Search for instructions on CZcams.

Closer to the front. Angled to the left. I’m thinking of getting a wave maker to be put on the left side glass near the bottom of the tank to help push the water towards the intake to the fluval. I have a 37 tall g tank. I have a bubble wall, a sponge filter, as well as a bubble waterfall feature. It seems most my agitation is at the back of the tank. So I got a wave maker yesterday 270 gph I believe Aqueon. My Danios and my Cory's didn't seem to mind it much but my dwarf flame gourami started hiding..till I found him laying on his side and then just looking in bad shape. I took the wave maker out and next morning he was still restless but looking vibrant again. I feel it stressed him out greatly. But still noticing he seems to dart to the surface more than usual and at times seems to gasp. Was wondering if a smaller rated wave maker would work, or would some sort of bubbler set in the front of the tank would help? Tank is only 12" wide so thought it be enough agitation with the amount bubbler I have but the front if the tank is as still as a deer in headlights.

      Brown Algae is tough to deal with. First thing I’d say is get a pleco, or 2 if you have that much. They are great algae eaters. Next basic steps to attack algae is to limit your lights to only a few hours a day and limit your feeding. Excess food and phosphates in the water will feed the algae...hope this helps.

    The air that you bubble through the water via an airpump and airstone contains 21 % of oxygen! Gas exchange always occur at the water/air interface. Thus, by inserting millions of gas bubbles in your water tank you also increase the surface for gas exchange, and the smaller the bubbles, the higher the gas exchange surface. While the air bubbles travel through the tank, oxygen and CO2 can dissolve in the water. But no matter how long you keep pumping air through your tank, the equilibrium concentrations of oxygen (9 ppm) and CO2 (5 ppm) in water will never be exceeded. It is thus not just surface agitation that increases the gas exchange between atmosphere and water but also the bubbles themselves travelling through the tank!

    • @BlatentlyFakeName
      @BlatentlyFakeName Před 3 lety +1

      You just need a current, not loads of surface aggitation. As o2 is lost it will get replaced as the water mixes, same with co2. It will match the surrounding environment and it depends on the minerals etc in the water itself. It's actually really hard to change water chemistry and make it stick. It's more important to get water from the bottom up to the surface as gas exchange only happens at the surface (usually done by the filter which is why the intake is always low down and the outlet near the top).
      Also many fish do not like lots of movement on the surface.

      You shouldnt have any speed in that tank with bettas, IMO. This channel is perfect for beginners, here's a great playlist that can definitely help you out - czcams.com/play/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er.html

    Yeah not a pretty site to wake up to, seeing your fish at the top gasping for air. Can’t a higher water temperature also cause a drop in oxygen?

      Yes sir, the higher your temp is set to, the more surface agitation you need.

    My agitator killed my Cory
    He got stuck against it

      Sorry to hear that. I know it may seem that way. But whats more likely is he died and the current brought him to the wave maker were he stayed stuck on.

    I don't care how ugly they are but for me a sponge filter is the way to go! You kill two birds with one stone. Mechanically filters and aeration. I have two in my 55 gallon with peacock cichlids and turtles plus a fluval fx6. Also have one in my 10 gallon guppy tank with a aquaclear HOB! I hate little floating things in the water LOL

      Agreed, love my clear water! Lol And agreed sponge filters are great, they are also added surface area for beneficial bacteria, so you kill another bird cause they are bio media too! 👍
