So here’s my experience with this Iowa weather I live in Mitchelleville and I go to SEP and I had golf practice on the Monday this hit I was at the golf course (no coaches btw) the sirens go off (still no coaches) the wind picks up and a adult had to tell us to leave so I was rushing to the car scared out of my mind trees falling around us I got hit the head with a branch (I’m okay btw) because the wind hit us with no warning no before breeze just full blast we seen lightning strike a tree it caught on fire see 2 trees fall while trying to get out of the area we were just trying to get somewhere safe so we got to a nearby Hy-Vee and hid out in there for 20 minutes seen lightning strike a building or something off in the distance after we got out of the hyvee and the sky was a weird green so we were pretty skeptical because that’s tornado clouds so we just tried getting home as quick as possible
Thank you for listening to my story of what to me during this

Anyhow, living in Iowa with severe storms, most of us didn't even know "derechro" was a word.

Hey, I have heard that derechos are like "land hurricanes" and I'm gonna just give a advice as a caribbean, * Puerto Rican * ( I really never had been in a derecho and not heard about it a lot, but yeah). Don't let stuff like that on your backyard, like, barbecues, chairs, toys, objects in general. Yes they can get blow off and may broke, but the real problem is that they can be projectiles and may broke cars, houses or maybe kill someone. It's just an advice, just for future situations. Take care, be safe!!

We got a historic Derecho here in Missouri about a month ago as well. Luckily, our grill didn’t go over this time (that was last year, definitely fun trashing that and building the new one), but it was definitely windy, and there was some crazy lightning and thunder. I was actually more worried than usual ‘cause I had just turned 16, and was worried about my car. I have no idea what the actual wind speed was, but we were most definitely getting straight line winds. I mean, our trees were leaning at almost 90 degree angles, and staying there! Just like you guys, it came out of nowhere! One second, I was minding my own business (playing a game on my PC) with clear weather, the next I could hear rain pounding on the roof and the winds blowing! BTW, I hope your grill still works. Yeah, this took place the day after my birthday too.

I had a windstorm similar to that stream that hit me back on Tuesday January 26 - Wednesday January 27, 2021 in the middle of the night that brought California heavy rain and 60 to 70 mph winds. I got 40 to 45 mph winds in my area all night and when I woke up in the morning close to 8 o’clock, I saw that one of the tall pine trees in my backyard broke in half and damaged my fence because of the storm. It was emotional and I was trying not to cry but I was miserable and really tried all day. Other than tree damage, my internet was horrible, it kept going up and down all day. The damage done to my pine tree took me 2 days to recover from. I luckily didn’t lose power but out of all of every house in my neighborhood, I believe my house got the worst of the damage.

i saw that this is like a land hurricane and someone from new york (long island) when you have things outside like plastic chairs or trampolines when they start blowing it’s better to brave the storm and go get them so they don’t hit windows or cars or ever trees and weaken them because the worst that can happen is that something hits a tree (like a grill” and pushes it with the wind because when the tropical storm hit us in new york it had 75 mph gusts and took down hundreds of trees
