A Mild Defense of Kingdom Hearts 3

  • Howdy all, Prakuza here with my take on Kingdom Hearts 3. Not really a hot-take, nor a tear-down, but a moderate defense of an imperfect game that I love dearly from a series that means a lot to me. This is also my first go at making video essays, so hope y'all enjoy them. I've got a few more in the pipeline that should be coming soon after.

KH3 is not underrated but it is definitely overhated

telling people the game is too easy because it wasn't made for them is a shit answer, multiple difficulty modes exist for a reason you shouldn't assume that little kids need to be able to play on hard. also just telling people that dont like the attraction attacks to just ignore them beyond frustrating. you should learn how to make a realistic critique of other peoples criticisms, if you hand wave away everything people say then of course you must be right...

    • @TheSCPStudio

That is a realistic critique. The difficulty thing is true. The game becomes pretty damn hard if you play on critical but for someone who only plays souls games or something, it’ll be a walk in the park. The complaints about it being too easy are mostly the people too dumb to change the difficulty.
And about the attractions… yeah, you can literally just ignore them. ‘Oh my god this little tooltip is popping up so I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO press the Triangle button’ is infinitely a worse argument than ‘just don’t press that button’. Especially since the game itself has options to disable attractions LMAO.
      You’re a clown.

I was underwhelmed by 3 at fist, but critical difficulty really saved the base game for me. Most of the heartless bosses were forgettable on standard difficulty because I was just mashing x, but they're really fun and engaging on critical. I wonder how the game would've been recieved if that was in the game at launch.
Edit: I don't care one way or another about "floatiness" but I do like how sora gets way more agile with each numbered title. Going from kh1 to drive forms in 2 to shotlocks, flowmotion, and formchanges really makes sora feel like a true anime protagonist in terms of how he progresses.

If three was a satisfying conclusion of the build up, I do wonder if 4 will just start fresh. It’s not so easy to play all the spinoffs these days.

Starts a video about dark souls design, "Anyways here's a video about kingdom hearts 3" Immediate follow. Great job on the video dude I'm excited to see more from you.

It makes sense, because at the end of the day, Kingdom Hearts and Dark Souls are very similar games but from polar opposite ends of the Idealism vs Cynicism spectrum. They're both Action RPGs with slow, methodical combat with an emphasis on dodging and parrying and only attacking when an opportunity to deal a lot of damage safely presents itself, yet paradoxically appears to be breakneck fast for those who don't understand it.

Great video, though I think my defence of the secret ending/secret boss not being on Disc is the same defence Square used.
It ensured those things were not leaked onto the internet in the days (and weeks) leading up to the release when physical copies ultimately leaked.
In my opinion having to download that stuff is a worthy trade off for not having those spoiled.

I absolutely loved kingdom hearts three. I didn’t have any of these initial complaints until after I beat the game and I saw all the criticism for it. I let the negative feedback change my initial perception of my first play through. Mind you I did have my own gripes. I was disappointed by the lack of a critical mode, and I did feel like the super interesting story telling didn’t happen till the midpoint of the game that being said I had a blast so I am thankful to content creators like this who confirm and RE:mind me that my initial feelings towards the game were not baseless.

    • @TheSCPStudio
      @TheSCPStudio Před 4 měsíci

That’s sadly the case for most people. They don’t actually have the complaints they just mimic others. And ironically the ones they’re mimicking are probably just mimicking someone THEY heard and so on.
You can find negativity in literally every single aspect of life and the things that come from it. Humans are trained to focus on it as an evolutionary trait but if you can mature past that you really begin to love most things. Simply put; focus more on the positives and if those are worth more to you than the negatives then it’s worth it.
That being said, in response to your gripes; critical mode does exist now. And the real interesting story didn’t start until midpoint because it was the wrap up game. You just can’t introduce many new plot points or problems. It’s the moment where everything moves forward, gets answers and closure. But sometimes minor other things need to happen in order for it to flow organically.
If the story wasn’t engaging at first, you should focus on how much fun you’re having with the gameplay. This brings me back to before; focus on the positives more.
Also don’t forget… people typically start vocally hating on a series after it’s existed for so long. Many people have head canon that becomes impossible overtime with addition to lore and maybe the things that enticed them at first have changed in the story. Or maybe, like with this game, a lot of people were dumb kids who just had fun and forgot how to do that.

I respect the opinion, but I don’t think anyone missed this. It was just “meh” to be honest. Dream Drop Distance had already set up for this war to happen. But regardless the writers had us sit through ALL of Arandelle, and the justification was this flimsy? I got another way to force the 7 Lights to fight Org 13. How about self defense?😂 “I’ll kill Kari, Sora.” It just seemed like an excuse to me.
