Hey mate, a real good knife is the Victorinox Curved Narrow Blade 15cm. A few fish mongers in WA and QLD use them. Strong and can hold the edge well. You can get the flexible blade but i find the regular is good enough and gets the job done

Good Vids by all means and enjoyable:), Vitronox Swibo etc all good knives but if you really want a good knife go with something with D2 Steel or above. Might be harder to sharpen but will retain it edge much better and for longer..

I've watched your videos and you put the fish straight onto the ice in esky live. Why do you not Bleed them ? Fish taste soooooo much better doing this practice out at sea when put on ice.
All our fish are brain spiked and gill cut before the box. We had to stop showing it due to a few complaints. Definitely agree the best way to treat a catch. 👌👍

By the way I'm really impressed with your NOOSA CAT how do you rate it in the Rough ? Im tossing up between the NOOSA and the KEVLACAT but love the hardtop in the NOOSA and how you have it setup. What's sleeping like in the Cabin guys ? Enough room ?
Thanks mate, we left our cabin open to save on weight. So no bunk and Snez is claustrophobic so we do roll out swags on the deck. They have ample room if you add the cabin bunk but it adds significant weight to the nose. 👍

Hey guys, awesome video :) I use the shorter, curved swibo knives as a personal preference - Dicks or Swibo would be my picks, also any other Victorinox should be fine.
Also use a Ken Onion Work Sharp belt sharpener, very very handy for keeping razor sharp knives 👌
Also for rods, can't beat the value for money Oceans Legacy slow element or if you wanna spend a bit more, elementus. Currently loving their PE3 spiral guides which really affordable, haven't had any issues and has done a lot of work on reds/nannies up around Mackay as well as our yearly 9 day trips out in the Swains - no dramas.

@@OBM1770 Tbh, I got that Ken Onion special edition one, can't remember the specific reasons why (I think it was greater control over the knife edge degree you could select) - but there is thr standard work sharp version which is a bit cheaper too.
I personally like it, but it is not a "must have" in my books, more so if you are in the market and looking for options.
So to answer your question, I think it is worth the money cause I like sharp super knives all the time, but if you're half decent on a stone you could get them sharp enough.
Also, since it is a belt sharpener it puts a convex edge on your blade as opposed to a straight edge with shoulders that you get from a stone... personally have found the edge holds longer for my applications because of this too 👍

Weeks away from our trip up to 1770, just wondering if it is unusual to lose stuff around there?
PITA if everything needs to be locked up every night.
And wondering, if you had to pick the best month of the year to fish, what would it be?
We have never had a drama here but with the influx of people coming into town I have heard of the odd incident! We prefer summer just for the temp! We have just had the most windiest winter on record for here! Most pros haven’t seen anything like it.

Fair point mate! That would not be a good outcome! My old boy “Wilson” is 10 now so probably too late for him. He’s grown up eating it since a pup.
I missed taking the bait off the hook once and as the dog was yelping running down the paddock I was torn between setting the hook and telling her to stop :)

The day I lost the $2,500 rod and reel out of my hand as I lent across to put it in the rod holder in the middle and something hit it so hard it was a bubbling trial 30 feet out the back and I KICKED the shit out of the boat and was heading home to sell the boat, the wife, the kids ETC ETC none of whom was even there. But lots of therapy later and I can laugh about it now 30 years later
I have to ask can Snez continue to carry you? two rods, Camera? just lucky you are such a great guy?
Oh, we love to tease, but life is good and bad days but as long as you can smile and laugh it's all good.

So how did you end up liking the new direction? It's easy to just keep playing in the normal areas and play is safe but it's a big excitement I reckon when I go exploring and it's not just about catching the fish as you said and Dam weren't they some horses of Red throat? I personally love those particular fish, I don't know why but their colors for me a just spectacular and the Camera never does them justice.

Made our morning waking up to your comment! We normally head out around Boult Reef, but you're absolutely right - sometimes it's the unexpected moments that make fishing memorable. Sorry to hear about your $2,500 rod and reel mishap; that must have been quite an adventure!🤬😂
As for Snez carrying me, she's a trooper, but I try to hold my own with a rod and camera. Sometimes it's just about having the right balance and a bit of luck, I suppose.
Exploring new directions has been a lot of fun for us. It adds that extra element of excitement, and you're spot on about those Red throat emperor - their colours are spectacular and pull hard.
Glad you enjoyed the cook-up! And about spoiling the Dog as much as the Kitties... well, it's something we'll have to consider! 🐕

you can't take anything on the water that you are unwilling to have it break in some way as you well know, it's a tough environment out there like you know, and demonstrate.
Thanks for the cheerful reply as it is what is missing in so many channels and you guys do such a good job with your cook ups because actually enjoying what you catch is under rated even if it is a recipe you have done before, most people never see all the videos and then there is this recipe what a Bomb using that mix, just hope they keep producing that one because its a no brainer for fish using those spices.
As far as rods go the get stressed all the time so its no wonder they fail at times and any rod you would want to hold is going to be overworked at any time? because who wants to use a bloody broomstick.
It is easy to look good and produce when you have a secret spot, We had a wreck off Cape Moreton that we outfished everyone, but Skipper was an old salt dog that man you can fish and he/ we outfished everything and put that skipper in Deep water and he just went to an even higher level it was embarrassing how good he was.
The spot was not much bigger than the boat, its was a Bugger to get anchored on but dam it produces everything and in good quantities so there is nothing like getting to know your spot, Except new ones LOL.

Thanks so much Garry! It was the Maori Cod fillet I did in that cook with the taco seasoning! It was so good. Please give it a go if you have never tried, as it won't disappoint. That spot down off Moreton sounds really good. Eddie has replaced his rod now so we are keen to get back out when the weather allows. Hopefully we can come up with something of entertaining for our next trip. 🙋🏻♀️
I lost track of that I guess I like Maori Cod and always cringe when people put good ones back.
