  • In this video from Learn Electrics, we will explain some of the fault messages that a PAT test meter might display when conducting an Inspection and Test on Electrical Equipment.
This came about because we had a recent request concerning PAT testing. A request for a little help in understanding what the fault messages were indicating.
What sort of problems can we get when PAT testing, and how does the test meter show this?
So in this video we will look at the basic tests and the fault messages that might be displayed. We will use simple drawings to show the set-up and the possible causes with photos of the messages as displayed on our tester.
This video is not intended to replace a formal training course, but it will help with any course and enable you to more easily understand the methods and requirements of the Code of Practice.

This is video No.167 on our CZcams channel where we have videos on a wide range of electrical topics.

Very informative. Could have done with you here a few weeks ago when I did an In-service Inspection and Testing course.

Another well presented, easy to follow video. Can you advise when Learn Electrics will be posting the code of practice video as discussed, as I have an exam coming up, in just less than a months time and I would really appreciate your guidance.👍

@@learnelectrics4402 Thanks Dave. Have you had any luck with the 5th edition COP for In-service Inspection and testing video. If you are about to release it would be great as I have an exam on the 24th and your videos offer excellent advice. If you have time can you explain when we would usually choose 200mA earth continuity test, a visual showing if this only runs on the primary side of the LVPS and when exactly does this need to be selected at a lower rating of 20mA for sensitive equipment. I am trying to visual how far this continuity test goes due to sensitive equipment as the printers have alot of electronics internally but obviously it would not be an issue if the test doesn't continue onto the secondary side unless there's line conditioners or surge protection etc. Also when exactly to select high current test loads upto 25A. Also, when either of those cannot be selected for whatever reason, why and when to select alternative test methods and what those tests consist of. I work repairing printers, so your guidance is always welcome and I will be looking to become a PAT tester once I have more experience and will be testing all equipment including I.T sensitive equipment and would feel better if you can expand in the guidance for printers and sensitive equipment using a Seaward Primetest 350. Thanks for your help.

Hi LE, do you do 18th edition courses ?
I'm doing inspection and testing exams next week. the course was not very well taught. im glad to have guidance 3 and the regs etc plus youtube plus time to study. But i would much prefer a good teacher and course package.

Thanks for the confidence in us, but no. I don't do face to face teaching anymore. That's one reason I do the videos, to help the guys on courses and to top up teaching where needed. Keep watching, lots to come. Dave.
