- Cac Mango tasting -
We will be tasting both mangos grown at our own farm on the west coast of Florida and from other Florida farms (mainly on the east coast). Mangos taste different when grown in different conditions and when picked at different times/ripened differently. Our opinions of a particular mango are just that - opinions on one specific mango, off of a specific tree, growing in a a specific location. We are not evaluating a variety in general and by no means intend to offend anyone by our less than stellar review of what might be your favorite mango.
Sulcata Grove is our 2 acre, backyard food forest. We grow over 60 varieties of bananas along with many fruit trees. Our videos are family friendly.

Man, I love your guys’ tasting vids!
Awe, thank you so much!
So this year I took notes on the new varieties I have been sampling, looking over my notes on CAC June 1st. it was very sweet, flavor similar to a Nam Doc Mai, but on steroids, with a hint of spice/resin. brix measured 22%. no fiber, acidity barely detectable. I liked this one so much, that a co-worker wanted a mango tree, and I purchased CAC tree for him, of course I clipped off a scion, and grafted a seedling I had, it took, and is growing wonderfully, seems to be a vigorous grower for sure.
Tried a Cac for the first time this year. It was very sweet and melted in our mouths. Your tree's fruit will get even better, with time. Looking forward to that taste testing video. 🙂
Thanks for the review. Enjoyed watching.
I tried cac and it was pretty good
So is it better to pick the mango off the tree or let it fall off ?
Can you plant a mango with the seed that it has inside of it?
Thank y’all
For Cac, I think they are best when they fall off in your hand when touched on the tree. Dot, Maha Chanok, and Cogshall have all been better tasting to us when picked at the first sign of color. We throw damaged mangos in with our chickens, and have many seedlings sprouting up, but for intentional planting, we clean the seed, remove it from its husk, and plant.
I live in the Cape and went to Fruitscapes up in Pine Island (Bokeelia). They had a Cac tree. I tested around 5 varieties and I ended up with a Cac as the one I liked. A lot of complex flavors and a little more resin. Not any is bad, just as that what both say, just different. In fact, I agree with a solid 8. Once a lot grow in the future, it might change, but the couple Cac's I tested, was a solid 8.
Hopefully it will be even better as the tree matures. Our coconut cream really improved after the 5th year in the ground in both production and flavor.
I tasted sugary parsnips and classic mango flavor minus the pine needle flavor on mine when i had them
@@thehuntfortruth I don’t think any two Cac mangos from out tree have tasted the same so far.
@@SulcataGrove wow interesting 🤔
@@thehuntfortruth maybe because it’s a young tree. It didn’t produce at all this year.
This is one I have not bought. It doesn't seem like you were blown away by it so I'll give it a pass. Thanks for the review.
We had a few that were amazing! I think for this one, they are best when they look ripe on the tree. We have had a major issues with woodpeckers damaging our mangos this year, so we started having to pick them early. I do prefer the mangos that are amazing under and over ripe - one of the reasons we love coconut cream and lemon meringue.
Give it a try, the ones I tried were very good.
@@SulcataGrove I put old plastic fruit boxes around the fruit for protection.
@@tropical-fruit-Florida we had a raccoon open our containers and eat the mangos. I need to fry duct taping them next year. I will definitely be saving more containers as I find them. It’s definitely helped with the woodpecker damage so far.
@@SulcataGrove7/2023 Thank you, I'm having predation problems on my first year with cac and I came here to see if I should just go ahead and pick them green or find a way to protect the fruit.
Resin is sold at the paint store.
How is the growing of the tree
It’s a pretty aggressive grower
Ask Valerie
I think she had already brushed her teeth the evening we filmed this. Next year 😊
What do mean by spicy?
Not spicy like a hot pepper, but like Indian spices - hints of cardamom, clove, etc.
@@SulcataGrove Thanks. Although I have eaten Indian food, I have no clue what they taste like since Indian food mixes all of them.
I wanna buy some mangoes
We sell mango boxes in July each year for shipping, fresh mangos at our farm June-early August, and freeze dried mangos year round. sulcatagrove.blogspot.com/p/fruits.html
