- Part two of a film showing trains at Westminster railway station in the 1990s, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
This film shows the station after it was rebuilt for the Jubilee Line and includes the visually distinctive station, including the award winning station box which looks like the stage from a futuristic sci-fi film.
Trains seen are C and S stocks on the Circle Line, D stock on the District Line and 1996 Tube stock on the Jubilee Line.
Part 1 is seen here: • Westminster 1990s - 20...
Seeing this makes me want to live in London even more! I love the London Underground so much :D
Elias Ysebaert Even if you are not able to live here you are always welcome to come as a visitor!
Westminster has got to be the most changed station in station contrasts.
Kieran Hughes also Fulham Broadway (ticket sales area) and Stratford.
It is odd at Fulham Broadway because half the station is new and the other half is old. I don't travel down that branch of the District line that much , but found out at the new year just gone.
The Jubilee extension is much nicer than the new Crossrail stations.
Nice footage which showed the reality of both the original and the current, I liked the original, at platform level, similar to St James’s Park, with Westminster being rebuilt rebuilt under running conditions, the track level was (I understand), lowered at Westminster.
These days the new station is featureless, bland and complex to navigate due to the JLE with misleading signage, and easy to make the wrong move, even getting to the sub-suffice platforms from street level was confusing enough, non the less, it a genius in the making.
Trains in corporate livery: This was In reality a assist the partially sighted, with interiors of the old C and D stock having grab rails coloured to assist.
yes, the track was lowered at night, something like an inch or even less each night. A massive task - but still better than closing the line for 3 months to do the work in one go.
Jubilee Line 1996 Tube Stock
Excellent filming and editing. I never visited the old station so it was really interesting seeing contrasts.
***** Thanks
I have thought of something. When the New Tube for London trains come, I assume they have walk through carriages, air-conditioned and double doorways. So how many doors per carriage? I am asking this because JLE stations have platform edge doors which can't be altered. So when the time comes for the 1996 Stock, how would Jubilee line trains change? The only thing I can think of is walk through carriages with 2 double doors per carriage and the platform edge doors for the single doorway will be disabled. I can't imagine trains at that time will still have no walk through carriages and air-conditioning.
Hmm, an interesting issue, although not one that will be faced for many years as the Jubilee Line has newish trains.
they will probably keep the doorway design specifications
I heard that the platform edge doors also have a shelf life where they would also be replaced. So they would probably be replaced for the new trains.
It's interesting how Elizabeth Line Central London stations took the opposite approach to JLE Westminister as I heard they tried to avoid makinng Liz Line stations change other stations architecture or design too much.
The Jubilee Line now is the most efficient tube line. And I have been on the Jubilee Line after it opened and extended to Stratford.
The old style of the station was more charming.
5mnz7fg It was also said to have had a direct access passageway to the Houses of Parliament. As far as I'm aware this no longer exists. Of course with the present security situation so this information is unlikely to be shared with the public.
Yes, it did have charm but it was also old and shitty and unsuitable for today.
I wish they'd kept the old tiling and architecture Did they really need to turn the entire place into a superfluous, grey dungeon when the Jubilee line came?
They also lowered the tracks and did other works so that they could build a large building above the station.
you said the train to richmond was about to undergo a metamorphosis, yet I didn't understand that at all
BMWM3GTRLOVER without leaving the station it morphed into a C stock train. I did not film the C Stock train arriving because I was travelling inside it.
The reason I said that it was going to show a sudden change of train type was because I wanted viewers to know that I knew the difference - unlike broadcast TV who often do this without realising their lack of continuity. I also did something similar on the "Underground Trains At Chigwell Station" film when at 3:55 I show different trains at changes of scene. In that film the change was from 1960 Tube Stock to 1962 Tube Stock. Below is a link to this film, which I made in 2011.

Circle Line C Tube Stock
Space Mtn Roller Coaster in Orlando! Looks the same
Alas, I've never been to Orlando.
One of my nightmarish station as I have a extreme phobia of heights , ones I made a mistake, I forgot and stopped on the jubilee line there ( it's the middle platform ) so there is an escalator up and down from there ( fucking trap ), when I got to the escalators I just realized that , I turned around run like hell screaming , took the next train from the same platform , it was a nightmare . After that I never forgot again . No way I am going to Westminster station ever , I am event scarred to go throw thinking the fucking train may get faulty and forced to get out there , so I avoid any line throw Westminster at all cost . It's just not my
I feel the same about wasps, perhaps we can swap phobia when you travel?
Minnnda gap
