  • The Chemical Brothers, formed by Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands in Manchester in 1989, are a pivotal English electronic music duo known for pioneering the big beat genre. Initially dubbed The Dust Brothers, they changed their name to avoid confusion with the American production duo of the same name. Their breakthrough came with the debut album "Exit Planet Dust," which sold over a million copies and launched them into the music mainstream.
Their second album, "Dig Your Own Hole," released in 1997, topped the UK charts and solidified their status in the music industry with hits like "Block Rockin' Beats." Over the years, The Chemical Brothers have enjoyed sustained success, with six No. 1 albums and 13 top-20 singles in the UK, including classics like "Setting Sun" and "Hey Boy Hey Girl." They have also won six Grammy Awards across various categories, demonstrating their impact and innovation in electronic music.
The duo started their journey in the early '90s, quickly gaining fame in the underground music scene and becoming known for their unique blend of electronic beats and intense live performances. Their music, often featuring a mix of techno, house, and hip hop elements, was initially played in small clubs before gaining broader popularity. Their track "Song to the Siren" performed well on the club circuit, leading to the release of the "Fourteenth Century Sky EP," which included "Chemical Beats," a track that became emblematic of their sound and was influential in defining the big beat genre.
Through the mid-90s, The Chemical Brothers continued to rise, performing internationally and remixing tracks for major artists, which helped increase their visibility. After a name change due to legal issues, they released their debut album under the Chemical Brothers moniker, leading to major chart success and establishing them as a leading force in the electronic music scene. Their music not only captivated listeners but also shaped the direction of late 90s electronica.

The Chemical Brothers had to give techno a career for Skrillex to destroy it
