BRENDA SOUZA the kingsflame is a flower that is extremely rare. If one blooms, it is acts as a good omen for the kingdom’s ruler. Some of the details I’m a little fuzzy on, but it’s part in KoA is really impactful because of its abundance despite its rarity.

I felt the same about Dorian's feelings for Sorscha. She is way more mentioned in KoA than in the fourth book. I wasn't so aware of his love for her. And I it also seems Manon is more like a replacement for sorscha, based on the amount of time Dorian spent saying that the love of his life was dead.

  • @gabyh566
    @gabyh566 Před 5 lety +55

    My thoughts:
Dorian tricking Maeve, seizing her mind, and cutting off her worldwalking power was a new level of badassery.
Aelin and Fenrys' friendship is so sweet.
The Thirteen dying for Manon and for the promise of a better world was the saddest and most beautiful thing ever.
I feel like "Lord Lorcan Lochan" is proof that SJM stalks us on social media because I'm pretty sure someone had that idea and made it into a meme way before this book came out.
The fact that there is a reason that the King of Adarlan doesn't have a name also proves that she stalks us. Because there is a meme from a while ago that goes: me at 3am "so what was the King of Adarlan's name?"
Also I love Elorcan so much. When Elide doesn't even wait for anyone to do anything and goes to find Lorcan herself. And then Rowan is about to go but Hasar is just like "I think she's already beat you to it.." and Elide is riding on "HELLAS HORSE". That was so badass of her.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT WAS ALSO BADASS? Manon in the Crochan crown and her fight with the matrons. BADASS.
I also love the part where Aelin is in the box and hearing her mom say "you do not yield" over and over again. It's reminds me very much of the first book when she's fighting and Chaol tells her to "get up".
Also what the fuck that we only got to meet Connall for TWO SECONDS?? before he DIES! The only reason that I feel even the slightest bit bad for this character who we never even met before is because my poor baby boy Fenrys is all sad :(((
Also the fact that Fenrys got to kill Maeve was great.
And final thought that THEY TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE A SPINOFF WITH DORIAN AND MANON BECAUSE SJM CAN NOT JUST BRING UP THE FACT THAT CROCHANS CLAIM MATES AND THEN MANON NOT CLAIM DORIAN AS HER MATE... it's just facts

That coronation scene at the end had me bawling! it was just written so beautifully and reminded me of how far aelin has come from the assasin in endovier. i'm going to miss everyone so much. going into the book i was 99% sure either aedion or lysandra would die so i was treasuring their scenes together and then near the end aedion and lysandra are kissing and he goes to take it a step further and lysandra's all like "if we survive tomorrow we'll pick this up where we left off" and they made such a big deal about 'tomorrow' that i was SURE this was the end of the road, aedion was a goner but then we get back to their story line and like a week had past sooo...

I have way too many thoughts and opinions to write about. To name a few:
    - Aelin's chapters while she was captured were absolutely heartbreaking
    - I love the friendship and bond Aelin and Fenrys developed (the blinking communication is so sweet)
    - I love all the reunions, but kind of bummed that we didn't get a Aelin/Celaena and Nox reunion
    - I got so emotional when the 13 sacrificed themselves
    - Three words: Lord Lorcan Lochan...I started hysterically laughing at that
Overall I loved it and I've now been in a mourning period for the past 2 weeks since finishing this book.

I think the thing with Rhysand/Feyre is that she appeared like one of the stars in Starfall. The stars in Starfall are described to be traveling between worlds so I don't think they saw a blonde chick plummeting to the ground, I think they saw a lone star traveling fast and Rhysand and his infinite wisdom slowed it down 😂

Shannen Symonds Nox was my number one priority going into this book because he was my favourite in book one and any time a new character showed up that wasn't him in any book since then I was getting more and more disappointed every book that he wasn't apart of and when I found out he would be in KoA I was ecstatic but then he was only there for like three sentences (not to say that I didn't start running around my room screaming when he showed up because I literally was)

I honestly feel like Manon has been the main character of this series, her journey felt like a complete one with all the development, obstacles and sacrifices she had to go through. Aelin felt like a main character for the first two books until she got god like powers and was basically immortal. Despite everything it doesn't feel like Aelin got a complete journey, or how to put it (not a native speaker), she never really lost anyone "close" to her (another main character) in a war that was supposed to be in a apocalyptic scale. Aelin has godlike powers and all the other characters have an plot/couple immunity to dying (litteraly noone out of ALL those main characters dies). Reading those chapters I never felt any suspense, because I always knew they would make it eventually. The only one who wasn't immune was Manon, and that is why her story feels complete (at least in Throne of Glass series). Asterin and the thirteen dying tore me up, but that felt necessary to depict the brutality of war and drive Manon's story forward even more. Though I wish not ALL of thirteen would die. Second big complaint for me is the villains, which feel very underdeveloped, and not threatening at all (even stupid). Erawan is not even there for most of the series. For a story about a war and end-of world sort of threat, this series doesn't live up to it. The demons and the threat felt extremely dangerous and mysterious in the two books, but since then its been rather weak. Maeve feels like a wasted potential, I think she could've served as an anti-hero of sort and not just something for Aelin to do her cringy go to hell one liner. Anyway, despite its faults this series was an interesting read. I hope Manon (and Dorian) gets a spin-off series, would be cool to see how they both deal with rebuilding their kingdoms. Who knows what threats could be lying in the old witch kindom. I think there is definitely enough material for a spin-off to take off. Sorry about the long comment.
EDIT: I really wish that characters had to go through tough choices, and not saved through some convenient event. Mainly thinking of the girl in Morath who wanted Dorian to kill her, and so that he could get the final key. He couldn't take her with him and so he had to make an impossible choice, I was super excited to see he would handle it, that's why it felt lame that Maeve barged in and killed the girl. I feel like Dorian should have had to make the decision, a hero doesnt have to be morally clean.

I didn't like Aelin losing her powers because it was like her story of learning to love a part of herself that people were afraid of and did not like. In my mind I see it as Aelin used a lot of magic and it was depleted because her fire was a part of her and she learned to love it instead of fear it and I really connected with that. Part of Aelin's journey was how as a child she had no control over her flames and had no friends because everyone was afraid, and then through Heir of Fire she accepts them and gets control over herself. Celaena was a way for Aelin to pretend her magic was not a part of her and in accepting her real name she accepts that part of her that she had been afraid of.

I really believe that's because it showed the true sacrifice of war. I loved all those characters, but I really think with such a big cat it wasn't realistic at all to have all of them except the Thirteen and Gavriel live. War just isn't like that. I was happy with the ending, but at the same time I really think it could have done with some more reality.
