Here is my response to Prophets marriage to Ayesha(r.a.)
Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) married Ayesha(R.A) when she was very young and he was around 50 years old.
Non Muslims today who lack basic understanding have two complaints (at that time no one complained, even hard core critics of Islam and prophet(pbuh). They didn't say anything about this, because it was normal thing for them)
Complaint 1: the age gap between prophet(pbuh) and Ayesha(r.a) was more.
Complaint 2: age of Ayesha(r.a) was less
It is Allah , who created all the human beings man and woman and He only knows us in and out. And He only knows and understands our needs very well.
Allah sent His last and final prophet, Muhammed(pbuh) around 1400 years ago for THE WHOLE MAN KIND, AND FOR ALL THE PARTS OF EARTH , TILL END OF THIS WORLD to guide us human beings to true path. That means the law brought by prophet Muhammed(pbuh) is applicable to all human beings and to all the parts of the earth and it is applicable from PAST1400 YEARS, PRESENT TIME and FUTURE i.e. to till this world ends.
Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) is a roll model to his nation from Allah, means last 1400 years to end of this world. Prophets life , sayings and actions are for whole man kind. it is not influenced by culture, time and era. Prophet's each and every action is approved by Allah. And prophet has to be roll model for the whole mankind in special situations too.With this background let us analyse.
Complaint 1: the age gap between prophet(pbuh) and Ayesha(r.a) was more.
Allah has created the man and the woman. The sex age of man is 75 years it can be up to 80 years if man is healthy and for the woman it is just around 45 years irrespective of her health. That means they enjoy sex and can produce children till this age. There is a long gap of 35 years in sex age.
So when prophet (pbuh) was 50 Ayesha(r.a) was around 9 . Allah wanted us to show more age gap between husband and wife is OK. And prophet's(pbuh) first marriage was at the age of 25 years with qhadija(r.a) was 40 years. She was two times widow. And he didn't marry till her death. (Islam promotes widow remarriage so that they shouldn't take wrong path of adultery)
Age is not a problem between husband and wife till they are happy with each other. It has Allah's approval.
So prophet is a one single man who has to show us how to live life with wife with different age group. Marriage is a very important aspect of our life Allah has to show through prophet the complete details.
Complaint 2: age of Ayesha(r.a) was less.
Age is not the condition for marriage between man and women in Islam, but approval from both and physical maturity. If they are interested to marry each other no one can stop. Usually in warmer countries girls get early puberty.
In India and China because of two child and one child policies, it has created a new problem. This is a man made problem but Islam has it's solution. The problem is
of skew sex ratio(the number of boys per 100 girls) the china and India are facing problems. the number of boys per 100 girls in china are 140, and in India , mainly northern India and in particular Punjab and Haryana the number of boys per 100 girls 120, where will you get life partners for these 40 and 20 extra boys for every 100 girls. Imagine the figure with whole china and India population.
this problem will bring so many social problems like child trafficking kidnapping and women trafficking etc. etc.(it is happening men in Punjab, Haryana have crossed 40 age they are not getting brides and they are kidnapping the girls either marrying or making them sexual slaves.)
If government changes it's policies and promotes girl child, when girls population increases, the older men who couldn't marry earlier, can marry now a younger girl of less age instead of indulging in adultery. Adultery is haram in Islam.
In western countries today there are girls at the age of 9 or 10 have become mothers today by indulging in adultry. Most of the girls and boys are sexually active at this age in these countries. If a Muslim girl finds herself in an sexually proactive environment it is better to marry instead of indulging in adultry. Adultry is haram in Islam. What is the problem if you do sex inside marriage which is legal and acceptable to our Creater and society instead of doing it out of wedlock. Islam is applicable on whole face of earth. Islam's laws are practical and natural, these laws suits our nature.
In previous era woman related to religion, we find sita was married at a very early age may be around 6 or 7. And mother of Jesus(pbuh), mother mary was married at the age of 9 or 11. It was normal thing at that time. Baal vivah was normal in India. Today too in sizeable rural India, early marriage is normal. And in few places I know people are marrying their children early because they are getting infected with the AIDS. Only thing is physical strength of girl of this era to bear child is a problem. But today we have means to stop pregnancy, why allow our children to indulge in adultery, allow them to get marry, delay the pregnancy depending on the strength of girl. Though there are worlds youngest girls have become mothers at the age of 8 accidentally., Because of adultery.
About Ayesha(r.a) she was the beloved of prophet Muhammad (pbuh), because of her intelligence and understanding of Islam. She spent time only around 10 years with prophet and the most number of Hadeeths are narrated by her. She was the scholar of her time, had mastry in different fields like medicine, mathematics, law, religious studies etc. She was a teacher, all her students became well known scholars who played a prominent role in spreading the truth (Islam) to us non Arabs in the whole world. She was so intelligent many scholars and companions of prophet (pbuh) used to take her opinion in religious and personal matters even though she was younger than them. Her early marriage didn't stop her to achieve so much in her life. And there was so much love and affection between husband and wife. They are the perfect example how a married couple should be. Allah had made them for each other.
FINAL WORD
These are the permissible conditions these are not the must rules. Islam doesn't promote every 50 year man should marry a 9 year old or every girl has to be married at the age of 9. If at all you are in such a situation, then prophet (pbuh) is the best roll model for this situatational problem to live life.

It is not like buying a house ..not sole ownership deeds.
