    Beautiful album, I think “Myth” is one of the best songs of its time. Flawless track. As you mentioned this band does get pretty monotone when you listen to their albums as a whole. They always have standout tracks but also tracks that just blend together. Even so, I always enjoy them. They seem quite influenced by Cocteau Twins, which I hope you’ll do more reactions to someday. I remember seeing you listen to Heaven or Las Vegas. Treasure and Blue Bell Knoll would be the next obvious choices I think.

      I feel like Beach House is one of the few bands that can get away with their songs kinda blending into each other 😂 They have their "thing" and they do it well so I'm not going to complain 💁🏽‍♀️
      Edit: Also, yes, more Cocteau Twins!!

    Honestly, I have found that their lyrics aren't talked about by people nearly enough in general. I think a lot of people who find the band repetitive or boring just see it as background music to vibe to. But man, Victoria Legrand is probably one of my favorite lyricists, and a lot of the lines and words in context just elevate their songs to a whole other level.

    This album was definitely life changing for me. I really did not understand on first listen (on Teen Dream i did), but the sound kept drawing me in and it blew my mind at one point. I've listened to it so much by now it became part of me, sometimes cathartic. Myth is one of the best album openers of all time btw

      About ur comment on her voice and reverb: Her voice has a whispery quality to it (even in higher volumes) that makes it sound so good and emotional, the reverb makes it stand out AND she is a really good singer with a subtle but fast vibrato, I think that's why it sounds that good, its like she is singing a lullaby in your ear

  • @Cyamer
    @Cyamer Před rokem +6

    Rewatching this again! You wondered why the closing track has that silence at the end... it's because Beach House wants you to listen to the album front to back. In the days before music went digital, you'd throw a record on and have it playing in the background while doing other things. When you're doing that, you won't really notice when the album ends, and that last three minutes will creep up on you and surprise you. I've had this album on in the background before and forgotten to turn it off, and then that last track starts playing and it scares the bejesus out of me lol. But it kind of slowly slides up on you, and then you're happy because the song is like a warm hug after the catalystic tumult of the rest of the album. It makes more sense when you understand it that way I think

    • @koob_

      @@koob_ Huh? Obviously I know that. I’m describing it for people who don’t know what it is. You only have to move it over if you want to skip over the few minutes of silence. If you just leave it though, it creeps up on you

      those hidden tracks were kind of common when people were mainly listening on CD or Vinyl before the era of streaming. people would forget to turn off the record and be caught off guard but rewarded with a bonus track!

    About halfway through and it seems like you're "getting" them! There's not a ton of sonic variation, but whatever they do, they do it really well and it sounds great. I hear what you mean about New Year though. Pretty sure the first time I listened, that part kinda threw me off a bit, but I think the overall goodness of the song kinda outweighed that part (though I know you have more issues with it than that).
    I've been on a bit of a Brian Eno kick the past couple of days. Not sure if you've heard him before, but he's got amazing music. I'd recommend albums 1-3 and 5. His 4th album is a bit of a departure from the 4 I'm recommending, which isn't a bad thing at all, just different (much more minimalist overall). I'm a huge fan of early Eno. Other people can recommend his ambient stuff 💁🏽‍♀️ It would be very cool if you did a reaction, but truthfully I just want you to hear it at all because it's so good and I think you'd appreciate it.
