Characters won’t be omniscient, so they could only offer the information that they know, or if they have high intelligence, they could make inferences from the information you give them. Crazy! 🤯

It would be so funny if your NPC becomes so AI that it refuses to do a particular thing to drive the game plot forward because it made an intelligent decision.Then you are stuck there just like real life how fun😂😂😂.
A product doesn't have to be intelligent to be broken
Ai will be integrated... not change the basic Storyline of the game.. there will be fail-safes put in place by the developers.
This technology would make my favorite games like cyberpunk and elder scrolls so much more immersive!

Issue is most AI bots sound alike, and their relation to knowledge is one of our world, not the artifical one of the game.
There should be an intelligence + style + eloquence + intensity slider spread around a gaussian curve.
Your ramen maker shouldn't not just have an opinion on molecular biology or 15th century pottery, they should mock and scoff at similar attempts.
Also, their 15th century needn't look like ours or even exist.
That's the difference between a convincing conversation and a talk with your run of the mill bot.

not sure if this is gonna speed up game developement that much, unless you use AI for lazy jobs of a quality level that will stand zero chance on the market as soon as the work of great AI artists sets the bar. but on topic: instead of writing the lines of a character, writers now will have to develope "personality algorhithms" in which AI moves for any given character. it might even be more difficult than old-school writing.

Developers will probably set dialogue boundaries for npc's where you can ask anything, but they will answer with the information the developers give them
There are already a couple of indie games where you have to talk to AI npcs. Mostly simple detective games. Pretty fascinating. The AI reacts pretty believeable and makes up stories on the fly. Penguinz0 has some vids where he plays those.
I'm pretty sure the publisher and or developers will charge extra extra for this to be in a game. Get ready for games to be $99.99 for the basic game.

AI-generated dialogue will be a game changer, but it will likely come at the demise of the scriptwriters.
an AI writing without intention will never meet the quality of scriptwriters. especially considering that AI needs data to train it's model, making it wholly dependent on scriptwriters.

That means NPCs will be sociable as a real human. How much freedom they have is up to the developers.

Hahahah yeah each character has to have a realistically different personality - not just say different things. Some real people are outgoing and enjoy talking to strangers or being helpful and some real people are shy and keep conversations very simple, or whatever.
But this is neat tech that eventually should help with one of the biggest and most expensive and time consuming parts of making big single player games

For all the marketing hype around this kind of AI, it makes the games look more lifeless instead of adding to the realism. People don't have conversations like this. AI like this misses out on body language and context .

In a nutshell: Large language model models language at large.
A new genre unto itself, but certainly not a replacement for authored writing. Sometimes it's fun to do an escape room. Sometimes you just want to watch a play with a specific artistic voice.
Why not both? Who says you can't have this and an author written story too.
AI Can absolutely replace current day authors. Only thing writers bring to the board other than hamfisted activism and grammatical errors, are limited dialogue options.

Honestly it's going to be an amazing and wonderful time to be a gamer. RPGs are going to be so amazing when you can talk with the villagers and learn about their lives and talk your way out of trouble with the guards and into trouble with the bandits.
Games are amazing because the storytelling is bespoke and deliberate, when you hand that over to an algorithm to generate on the fly it becomes far less interesting or meaningful.
Not to mention it's spitting in the face of writers and voice actors.
Yea would be cool. But recession, poverty and war it will be instead.

I'm expecting something along these lines with GTA VI. If this doesn't turn out to be the case, Ima be dissapointed.
Pretty soon coders are going to be so dependent on AI to do everything that the next generation of game designers won't be able to do anything without it and everything will be made based off of a brief summary and confusion on how things work. Sooner than later everything is going to be AI generated and lacking that human touch.

To be clear, the character models aren't made by AI, the vocal animations are the only thing this video is talking about being done by AI. To answer your question more directly, because like the vast majority of games out right now, they weren't made with AI. Starfield isn't unique in this fact, home skillet. 😅

But we already played same game as bg3 5 years ago it's called divinity original sin .Bg3 added cutscenes but mechanics and combat and looting are the same.. Obviously the game is great but it's nothing build from scratch or new idea if you just reshade Divinity 2 no one could tell a difference
