i cant believe her voice is still so awesome after all these years this is pure beauty. i dont know if dylan wrote it with baez in mind but it definitely seems like it was made for her to sing.
This is a incredible piece of video. If you recognize what your looking at. It used to be called simply talent. So scarce these days. Where everything's so fake today
This song sounds and feels like waves. it's an extraordinary song and haven't heard anyone sing this song as beautifully as Joan Baez. Haven't discovered any recordings by Bob Dylan singing this.
Ma diva , je t écoute toute la journée ma douce Joan ! Quelle surprise de découvrir un mot de ta part ♥️ 🌟 tu es pour moi un rayon de soleil . Bizz ♥️🇫🇷♥️
In this documentary Joan Baez says that Bob Dylan wrote it, she liked it a lot and recorded it. When Bob Dylan heard it on the radio he said: "That's a nice song". he didn't remember he wrote it!
I don't know which is more beautiful, her or the lyrics of this song, so I guess I'll just sat here and enjoy growing old and thinking about the past and how time passes you by so quickly.
WOW!!! I was so lucky to see Joan Baez perform at the Fraze Pavilion in Dayton, Ohio. Her voice and guitar playing is superb!!! She is still beautiful.
This is what we call in the South,,,Beautiful! This was the first real folk singer who actually captured me as a young man. Can you believe Bob Dylan quit this woman? In our time she would be placed on a thrown.
Joshua Odekirk papapapapapapapapapa pomer face Ououououohhh ououohhhh ouuuhhh babyyyy babyyy bayyyyy beeeee dooooont goooooow ouh ouhouhhh ... thats the new lyrics ... which are a lot deeeeper and more poetic !!!!!!
What a beautiful, soulful and intelligent woman singing a fine song that Dylan himself never recorded for some reason. In the documentary containing part of this performance, Joan Baez tells a funny story about Dylan hearing her recording of the song on the radio one day when they were in a car. He listens intently and says that's a good song as if he doesn't recall writing it. She tells him, "you wrote it, you dope".
I have had music in my life for as long as I remember! This was indeed wrote by Bob Dylan, and when she had sang the song to him he looked at Joan and quoted saying, "I like that song"? She repeated by saying you should, you wrote it dummy? This was a very sad million record seller for Joan Baez? As she sings a few lyrics of this song she does a great impression of Bob Dylan. If you never seen hurt that love deals us at times, look at her eyes, and you know she loved Bob Dylan more than life. The very worse of it all?You sing one of your biggest hit by the man who inspired the singing of the song, even though it has too hurt her very badly! But for what it's worth,Joan your still a Baby Doll Girl, and Bob when you look at her you got to know you lost big time brother?
I lucked into this today. Hard to believe I'd never heard the song and I listen to lots of Dylan songs, both on recordings and CZcams. Thanks CZcams and tinustijer! This is a perfectly crafted folk love song sung with the pathos of someone who gets it (how could she not). This is poetry and song at its finest. Something deep was going on between them when Bob wrote this gave it to Joan to sing. Some say a recording of Dylan singing it has never been released. Is there a reason why she sang certain verses like Bob and left out an entire section? Something is happening there, but I don't know what it is.
They discussed it in outtakes of Renaldo and Clara, you can see the clip in the film Rolling Thunder Revue. Dylan speaks about how he married the woman he loved and Joan replies that she married the man she thought she loved (This was in 1975). They certainly love each other, I feel it is more platonic than it ever was romantic though.
I never saw or heard about this documentary by Scorsese - I can't believe I missed it. I have been a fan since I was a teen in the sixties. I wonder if it's avaiable somewhere. Thanks for posting this beautiful song.
Thank you very much for the information. if you seach on youtube this: "Blowing In the Wind 1976.5.23" you will find the video whose link I put before. thanks again!
love it with just her on guitar! I just ain't into the produced version. It's probably because I bought her first record for 5 bucks (reissue but who cares) and played it over and over so maybe that's just what Im used to. ABSOLUTELY LOVELY!!!!! And of course, yes great Dylan hehe.
What an enchanting and Beautiful spirit Joan Baez IS! No wonder they both imitated the other! When is she coming to Bury M.E.T again? Missed her 10 years ago and flog myself....I don't.....Yet I do bemoan and shit. C'mon back Joan!
Only His Bobness could write a 'throwaway' song that can make you laugh, think and cry all at the same time. And, of course, 'Shecky Baez" does a great version here...
the link does not work, but this is the kind of guitar you would be looking for: Washburn R319SWKK. Or Epiphone EL-00, or Art & Lutherie Ami, something like that. Saludos desde Belgica :-)
Seems like only yesterday I left my mind behind Down in the Gypsy Cafe With a friend of a friend of mine She sat with a baby heavy on her knee Yet spoke of life most free from slavery With eyes that showed no trace of misery A phrase in connection first with she I heard That love is just a four-letter word Outside a rambling store-front window Cats meowed to the break of day Me, I kept my mouth shut, too To you I had no words to say My experience was limited and underfed You were talking while I hid To the one who was the father of your kid You probably didn't think I did, but I heard You say that love is just a four-letter word I said goodbye unnoticed Pushed towards things in my own games Drifting in and out of lifetimes Unmentionable by name Searching for my double, looking for Complete evaporation to the core Though I tried and failed at finding any door I must have thought that there was nothing more Absurd than that love is just a four-letter word Though I never knew just what you meant When you were speaking to your man I can only think in terms of me And now I understand After waking enough times to think I see The Holy Kiss that's supposed to last eternity Blow up in smoke, its destiny Falls on strangers, travels free Yes, I know now, traps are only set by me And I do not really need to be Assured that love is just a four-letter word Strange it is to be beside you, many years the tables turned You'd probably not believe me if told you all I've learned And it is very very weird, indeed To hear words like "forever" plead So ships run through my mind I cannot cheat It's like looking in a teacher's face complete I can say nothing to you but repeat what I heard That love is just a four-letter word
Over the years, she is like a fine wine...
Oui .elle se bonifie !... Comme un bon bordeaux.. !
Lovely. And her Dylan impression is villainous ;-)
I was 17 when I bought the No Direction Home DVD. And this DVD extra of Joan singing solidified that I would forever have a crush on Joan Baez.
I love when turns her voice to a bob dylan's mode :)
Il ne faut pas se demander si elle l'a dans la peau.!
Do you really need to go any farther than this song for proof of the man's genius? And then for Joan to make it even BETTER? Mind blowing.
Such a gorgeous girl, and a great storyteller through her music, all the emotion is right there. Wish her much love. All four letters of it!
Damn, she's gorgeous.
She's 68 here. 82 now
Joan still has that lovely voice. This is my favorite song of hers.
Except it's a bob Dylan song
@@markleventhal8863 Bob told her he liked the song. She said "you wrote it." (See biopic film)
Joan Baez. What a character. And beautiful singer. Simply performing in the kitchen.
JOAN IS ALSO A FOUR LETTER WORD AND JOAN IS LOVE ❤️
A word of advice: don't sing this song to a girl after she tells you she loves you for the first time.
Good advice!
She's the best there is.
This is incredibly beautiful!
My body is numb right now. Her words laid upon me like a sentence. Needed one. So glad to see this now. Complete evaporation to the core.
As usual Joan sings beautifully. A lady of conviction, and true skill as a singer.
i cant believe her voice is still so awesome after all these years
this is pure beauty. i dont know if dylan wrote it with baez in mind but it definitely seems like it was made for her to sing.
arizonablues He wrote it especially for her to sing... Which was either playful or cruel considering their relationship at the time.
Her voice has matured supreme.. so beautiful thanks for the upload Xx
Her voice has aged so gracefully
Joan and Joni - two originals...two fantastic musicians/magicians/storytellers.
Such a beautiful song, and amazing performance. Funny too. Great, Joan Baez.
This is a incredible piece of video. If you recognize what your looking at. It used to be called simply talent. So scarce these days. Where everything's so fake today
She is so amazing!
so funny when she starts to sing like bob dylan! she still sings beautifully after all these years and looks great for her age.
Beautiful voice! Love!
This song sounds and feels like waves. it's an extraordinary song and haven't heard anyone sing this song as beautifully as Joan Baez. Haven't discovered any recordings by Bob Dylan singing this.
Angels exist.
makes me cry, her voice and Dylan's words together... so beautiful

beautiful, rich,
Pretty cool to get an intimate performance like this. Baez in her own kitchen. Clearly still a sad song for her personally. Respect.
So beautiful and genuine

Joan es hermosa, talentosa y una gran persona, ella es maravillosa. Yme encanta su cocina.

JOAN IS A FOUR LETTER NAME 😊❤

lindo demais
Incredible!!!!! Fabulous. Fantastic. Amazing!!!!
Was this one or two years ago? Anyone know for sure? :)
I actually love her.
Life and Bobby taught her that it´s "just a four letter word" which no one ever would have been able to believe way back then.
she's so beautiful and graceful.. she's not got the best set of teeth, but still can smile so bright and light up everything. My love and respects.
Nice to see that YOUNG People have class & taste.
Reminds me of ME
Joan, Thank you for helping me through the military (69-72).
Like Emmylou Harris, she has aged beautifully.
Isn't she marvellous and using bobs voice too..
She still loves him..
godess
She still sounds good as ever, and still a good looking woman.
最高です!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I changed the description after reading lawnggcoats comment, at least the description fits now :)
Great bob song
8 years ago my last comment. Still not heard whether our friend will ever come to Bury, North England.
Joan: You and Bob together. Tour. NOW.
Thank you very much for the information. if you seach on youtube this: "Blowing In the Wind 1976.5.23" you will find the video whose link I put before. thanks again!
❤❤ 🇧🇩

The Earl Scruggs version with her in the Scruggs living room is breathtaking
one of te best Dylan songs he never performed. But Joan sure does the song good!
What an enchanting and Beautiful spirit Joan Baez IS! No wonder they both imitated the other! When is she coming to Bury M.E.T again? Missed her 10 years ago and flog myself....I don't.....Yet I do bemoan and shit. C'mon back Joan!
made me laugh and cry

An extraordinary talent, expressing the feelings of so many. But she dared to speak of the sufferings of the Palestinians, and so was silenced.
😊

Seems like only yesterday
I left my mind behind
Down in the Gypsy Cafe
With a friend of a friend of mine
She sat with a baby heavy on her knee
Yet spoke of life most free from slavery
With eyes that showed no trace of misery
A phrase in connection first with she I heard
That love is just a four-letter word
Outside a rambling store-front window
Cats meowed to the break of day
Me, I kept my mouth shut, too
To you I had no words to say
My experience was limited and underfed
You were talking while I hid
To the one who was the father of your kid
You probably didn't think I did, but I heard
You say that love is just a four-letter word
I said goodbye unnoticed
Pushed towards things in my own games
Drifting in and out of lifetimes
Unmentionable by name
Searching for my double, looking for
Complete evaporation to the core
Though I tried and failed at finding any door
I must have thought that there was nothing more
Absurd than that love is just a four-letter word
Though I never knew just what you meant
When you were speaking to your man
I can only think in terms of me
And now I understand
After waking enough times to think I see
The Holy Kiss that's supposed to last eternity
Blow up in smoke, its destiny
Falls on strangers, travels free
Yes, I know now, traps are only set by me
And I do not really need to be
Assured that love is just a four-letter word
Strange it is to be beside you, many years the tables turned
You'd probably not believe me if told you all I've learned
And it is very very weird, indeed
To hear words like "forever" plead
So ships run through my mind I cannot cheat
It's like looking in a teacher's face complete
I can say nothing to you but repeat what I heard
That love is just a four-letter word
Thanks Bob & Joan. He never recorded it I don't think.
man i wish there was more women like joan but this world is getting stupider so it makes joan a one and only women
You can watch Dylan composing this song on "Don't Look Back".
