Silat and religion perhaps but specifically islam? Don’t know. Some people make you believe that Silat was born from islam. Reality is it is much more eclectic than some make you want to believe. There are quite a few who were born out of a mix of Islamic, Christian, Hindu and Animistic aspects.
The reason why I like and wanted to try practicing Silat because of its practices applies through art, psychology, philosophy, tradition and culture that enables you to be spiritually strong and physically fast & efficient. Good video, subscribed :)

I appreciate this Sifu's take on sparring philosophy. Most martial arts sparring is based on the context of: "How good am I against my peers?" While Silat sparring is about exchanging knowledge of the art between practitioners. As someone who puts philosophy first in martial arts, I'm thankful to take this teaching from Sifu Abdur.

Actually silat comes from ( sholat ) the word prayer which means that the movement takes from the prayer movement ( sholat ) ,wudu,and work our daily life sometimes also mimich the movement the animal such as tiger and monkey ....

silat have so many branch and diversity. i think this is silat betawi, which also have various diversity each region, and this is most common in betawi or jakarta. Silat Beksi, with so many hand tappings. its used for wedding ceremony. when the groom have their henchmen to beat the bride doors guardian. its fun and beautiful. in war era, indonesian use black arts and magic. most common is rawa rontek. its immune against any weapons even bullets. its magic, and certainly have a pacts with djinns or demons. silat on certain stage/levels also have those 'hibiejibies'.. its not fun anymore.
