Your dog in the thumbnail brought me here. What a precious, little dog. Thank you for your review as I am only just learning about this novel. You're an engaging speaker. I love your dog, thank you.📚💓🐕
As an Aussie, I was feeling bad that I had never read it - even though I've actually had a picnic at Hanging Rock and seen the 70's movie many, many times. So I bought it earlier this year, in a different edition, and it's on my must read by the end of year list.
I'd seen the movie version many years ago, but had never read it. But now I have. Loved it. And now I have both the Peter Weir film and a more recent multi-part TV adaptation ready for viewing. I'm excited to see the differences. Kisses to Frieda. Happy reading.
I love this novel. Lindsay wrote a final chapter explaining the mystery. It was published after her death as "The Secret of Hanging Rock." Interesting, but I feel it was wise to leave it out of the novel. I prefer the novel as published.
I remember reading that book years ago, and I thought we all agreed the girls entered a parallel universe... Secondly, as an Australian, I have always felt a little....'less', because I have never enjoyed Patrick White, and lord have I tried! Thank you for clarifying its not just me. (I would also like to mention we get more snow than some Scandinavian countries....)
Lovely video. Saw the movie a long time ago but somehow still have not tackled the book despite having wanted to for years and years. I have read a few Patrick White novels though and yes, the lingering feeling is one of admiration but not necessarily enjoyment. Unrelated, my next read is going to be The Monk, thanks to your recent video :D.
Whatever you used to record this, I prefer it to the last several devices you've used. Ah....you let us know at the end. Too bad about the limited storage.
Just keep using this iPhone, is my suggestion. If you think the laptop is too dark, this is the best compromise. Somehow, this looks better than the videos from your 7S.
I love Patrick white and have read all of them and a couple more than once. I especially enjoy his letters and the biography by David Marr. Picnic is very good spoilt only by the author publishing a final chapter and explanation? Something like that. Why?.
Interesting video as usual. I enjoy Australian author David Malouf especially his work An Imaginary Life. I am partially disabled and I can't keep up with your video content. Should I fully disable myself because I really don't want to miss anything? Please slow down so I won't hurt myself:)
Can't believe this is fifty years old now. I never read anything else by Joan Livesey and I have never read any Patrick White but at least I'm not Australian. Just adding video lovely and crisp. I can see your wrinkles in sharp relief. I need something more soft focus now myself.
Aussie here, and I can confirm that this book is studied by high school students (or at least it was many moons ago when I was in high school).

I will echo what others have said, great sound and video quality and more importantly an interesting book that I have never encountered.

Video quality is perfect!
This camera is much better

As an Aussie educated in the 80s I was never taught this...ironically we did read Catcher in the Rye 😀
Hahaha! 📚💓

Responding to your intro with Frieda:
"there is no folly of the beasts of the earth which is not infinitely outdone by the madness of men."
-Moby Dick
The most dangerous of our wildlife rarely mentioned are...drop bears!

Good morning from Cornwall ☀️
