Well, pop is called such for a reason, and that is being 'pop'ular to the mainstream.
The biggest reason they are underrated is because the singer sucks live, he uses a lot of auto tune for recording. So the singer might sound good when he really isn't.
Have to admit I had concerns when I first heard that Starset's second album would be taking a more pop orientated style, but now my concerns have been laid to rest. Big up Starset!

Yeah, I was kind of like "What the hell? They're making that drastic of a change in their style?" But I agree, I think it's pretty good regardless of genre.
They have been pretty pop the whole time ha. The songs are chord progressions (mostly electronic), it's in major keys, and the vocal melodies and synth hooks are very poppy. I love their music, one of my fav bands so don't take this as hate, but I would never call them metal.

I figured it was a follow-up to My Demons. Dustin sang 'save me if I become my demons' in the first one, and now he's singing about 'the monster you made me'. Haven't really checked out the rest of the lyrics yet though
It really does go with carnivore, both song's lyrics are massively interpretable and they still fit together really well... Perhaps it's sharing the same motive and inspiration that Dustin had.
I agree with Cory. The two songs also sound somewhat similar at SOME points. For example, both have this sort of slowed down version of the chorus near the end of the song, in this video it's around 3:23 and in "my demons" it's also somewhere towards the end (the exact point depends on which video).
The two sound similar at this point in the respective songs ("you're the pulse in my veins" v/s "take me high and I'll sing"); very similar voice modulation...
well from what the music videos showed, I think this is a theatrical, story telling band where all the songs are interconnected with each one so maybe this is the continuation of the story
An unbelievable advancement in an already stunning and unique type of music, if only Starset songs were in massive scify space movies like Prometheus or Sunshine etc. it would make them 20 times better!

I think it works too so long as other bits of the lyrics are also changed, considering the song being about a guy changing himself for a person he likes. With your interpretation it goes from an accusatory meaning to one that accepts responsibility for themselves and blaims himself for putting himself in this predicament.

They've just suffered from making music for a long time and not knowing how to evolve. Music is changing, and they need to develop or else they'll be left behind and or become stale.

Oh my god! I've been waiting for new music from Starset for so long!
Every line of this song describes perfectly what I've been through, from the last argument and the most painful breakup I had. I only wanted to understand her sudden hate (I discovered Starset through her), after 2 year connection, while she brutally accused me for never loving her and sent me into silence (even though we had a last small talk a few days after). Sometimes I still return to this song, even though I positively moved on. It wasn't even a breakup, in my opinion, but a sudden full stop, therefore something still makes me wanna listen to this song, even though it's been a year and I left it behind, along with the person I was. So I'm mostly great, I love my life, work on my goals and even opened to a new relationship, but never get tired of Starset songs.

Im curious to see how the other songs on the album will be, because "My Demons" was considered their "popular" song, but there was other songs from transmissions that made me Fall in love IE : Let it die, AntiGravity and Halo. So im gonna hold judgement.
