My big question is, have they changed the way of browsing and applying LUTs in the VFB or you still have to apply them one by one?

Great feedback! Totally agreed! Weird that some of the features you asked for are already available on Vray 4 in other 3D platforms, I really thought MAX would get the most features faster.
What features are you talking about?

1: A default material library (There's also an additional material library that can be purchased with way more materials and of higher quiality, including displacement maps.)
2: the ability to apply a temperature slider to every single color/texture channel anywhere in the plugin by just choosing it from a dropdown menu,
3: Colors, texture maps and even full texture+corrections+effect networks can be copied by right clicking and choosing copy, then pasting in another color/texture channel, no need to open, and search for the RGB code,
4: For materials that emit light, we can literally turn them into lights, this way it will emit light just like an actual light, instead of just shining like the one in your video.
All that is currently available in Vray 4.x for Sketchup. I really wish they would increase the f-stops available for more natural lighting and easier lighting configuration. Instead they just offer OCIO, ICC and LOG which needs an extra step outside Vray to finish color grading.

i have that problem with the color temperature option too, since im using temperature for the lights. but overall it's a huge move from chaos group
Hopefully they will add it to the final release. RGB sliders are helpfull too.
I use different software, so I don't know what's available to you. But a trick I have available for problematic small emission geometry, is to
make that visible to camera and single ray calculations only (like sharp reflections), and a regular lamp for the rest which samples much better.
Big and tiny emission geometry in the same light pass is an absolute nightmare to brute force. I'm guessing how MIS works is the culprit in my case.
That said, I don't have reliable caustics or bidir stuff, those features might interfere with such tricks to be possible. Should investigate if not fixed.

nice video! i already reported the vray light material issue, on my tests i had various lights with the same light material, in some objects it was part of the lightmix on other objects it was pure black....
Hope they'll fix it.
Arch Viz Artist yes apparently is a bug when the light material is inside a multisubobject material

I know :D we were trying to do it asap for you guys :D We recorded it yesterday evening, but half of the video was without audio (we realised this today). We had to tape all the windows to get the same lighting and to finish it for today, hehe ;)

3ds max 2017: I have added the lightmix component, i do not see lightmix control palette in VFB, how to turn it on ?

How does actually the Light mix feature work...? My idea is that it renders "everything" (lights) in "background" (doesnt show it to you) into separate lighting passes and then it mixes/composits them in the background "on the fly" (live) according to your settings and changes in the Light Mix windows and shows only the result... That would be my idea of how it works, is this correct or not?

Awesome review! I havent used VRAY since VRAY 3.6, and I see here that they upgraded their material preview balls, to full on 3D spheres, just like Corona. Is that a new feature, or has that been the case for quite some time now? Thank you in advance.

We don't use Maxwell. Curved monitor is awesome and it doesn't affect anything, I recommend it ;)

hi. my light mix in VFB is not available in iraddianance map mode,only works in Brute force or lighcache.this is normal?

Dear mam, thankyou for posting such videos related to 3d etc. Mam after watching your video i also decided to switch from v-ray to corona.. I have already installed it.. But i dont know for some reason when i apply texture and color to my object it is not showing on the viewport ( just only show in frame buffer during rendering) so that its getting hard or say impossible to see real color or texture i want to apply on viewport... But its show dark black.. Please mam help me to fix this issue....
You have to check show texture in viewport in mat editor. It works exactly the same in vray and corona..
May I do a suggestion? try gpu rendering for your videos (save us the waiting time and retain attention spam) a lot of features mentioned were already on vray next, would’ve spected a vray 5 only features video
the problem is u must use brute force in the primary engine in order to play with lightings .. i hope they can solve this problem as well

this release was all guns pointed toward Corona .. the latter has lightmix which is a novel feature, Maxwell have it also but that renderer is more for photographers ... , i still don't understand why people don't talk about that one(it has GPU rendering also) Corona has that ease of use .. still unbeatable on that part ...

It's a new version.
You should be sending your comments to Chaos, and not hoping that someone from Chaos is watching. It doesn't work that way around. This is Beta - send them your thoughts. They listen and put good ideas in. I have had one idea myself added and accredited to me :)

Chaos is basically turning V-Ray into Corona, which isn't that bad at all
True! Since they acquired them, maybe it would be a good idea to merge them into one renderer. They are super similar anyway ;)
@@ArchVizArtist Lets face it: Corona isn't the greatest name for anything these days. I give it 6 months top before there is only Vray (with Corona inside it).
