It's the "Zero Tolerance" policy most public schools seem to have. My 6yr old nephew got suspended from school last year for pretending his HAND was a gun. You can get suspended for drawing weapons, pretending you have a weapon, playing with toys that resemble weapons....it doesn't matter how old you are (clearly).

There was someone who worked at my old school (btw I forget what she did for the school) and she told my class a story on how she claims that she ended up in the police department for making finger guns in class when she was a child.
