What about the bathtub scene in the first episode of Season 4, where he attacks the woman in the bathroom and slits her wrists when she is going in and out of consciousness? Also, the scene where he talks the woman into jumping off the building by threatening to kill her entire family in front of her if she doesn't? Hell, how about Thanksgiving where his own family straight up accuses him of being a murderer and he suffers a complete mental breakdown and almost kills his son? Don't think for a second that I am talking shit about you or disrespecting your opinion Hammering. I just am curious why you think that the "Hello Dexter Morgan" scene was creepier then those scenes I just listed.
Hammering Hank I was literally screaming in my living room when this aired. I had to keep pausing the episode because it was too overwhelming to watch.
Lithgow has played bad guys before in films like Cliffhanger but the film in which he played a role that is closest to Arthur would probably be 1991's Ricochet with Denzel Washington.
john is amazing in any role. Such an incredible versatile actor. Yet he seems like he could be your next door neighbour, a very accessible man. Love him and everything he does.
John Lithgow is the #1 reason why Season 4 is one of the most popular seasons of Dexter. He is one of the most brilliant actors in the world, because he can play any role to perfection. Amazing character indeed, to quote John Lithgow lol....
He writes children's books, and has a few children song albums out. Does tons of work for kids. It's so wild that he has such a versatile personality. I love him, honestly.
John Lithgow is a phenomenal actor. He played Trinity but he could turn on the menace in a split second and you genuinely felt it. He's been great in every role I've seen him in and he's critically underappreciated which is a crime.
@SquirtleMaster Now imagine that you originally got to know him as the head alien in 3rd Rock From The Sun for a few years, then suddenly see him in Dexter. Almost enough to give you whiplash. =)
Season 2 for me, Doakes chasing Dexter was the most intense one for me... Season 4 would be second. I used to love season 1 but rewatched it to the point were I just got bugged by it.
If anyone who just plays themselves, it's Nicholas Cage. Director's don't think "We need this kind of character, I wonder if Nicholas Cage can fit into it", they say "this needs a Nicholas Cage".
Severus Versus because Lithgow is in a league of his own. Oldman is right up there with him. But the actors you mentioned are not even close to Lithgows brilliance
You know someone's an epic actor when they are so convincing and real on screen that when you see them being interviewed you say no, that can't be the same person!
he won an emmy for this role as outstanding actor in a guest role for a drama series. best supporting actor performance golden globe, and was nominated against Michael C hall for best male performance by the screen actors guild (Dexter's actor won)
I just gotta say that i just finished watching the last episode in season 4, and after watching it i stood up and applaude. Most amazing performance i have ever seen on tv. The entire season was just amazing.
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has more acting range than John Lithgow. He plays psychos and serial killer roles, zany goofy sitcom roles, and everyman/family man roles. Dude can be literally any character he wants.
Such a great actor, since he excels at it all, what can I say? Comedy, Drama and Suspenseful Horror... The man does it all and can go back and forth like nothing, That's what I love about him cause he's got so much personality to explore!!
What a tasteful well made interview, seems like Harry Smith loves the show and read everything about not only John Lithgow's character but the whole vibe of Dexter, this was a joy to watch, wish it was longer, delightful people indeed! gotta love John!
John Lithgow made Arthur Mitchell a character for the ages and delivered a classic performance. There was such depth and nuance, and in creating such a complex persona, you truly never knew what to expect from Arthur. That is what it made him truly powerful and sinister. Lithgow even managed to make him a sympathetic character at times, one who had a deep pain due to the events of his childhood. If there's any justice, John Lithgow will sweep the awards season for this remarkable role.
Yeah he was an amazing character on Dexter and he was so brilliant on the character that I just can't believe how far you took that character oh my God I mean he really went dark and I Know It Was Written that way but still John just nobody could have played that part but John Lithgow nobody
Jinx the Shadow: I agree with you completely! The way Silence of the Lambs was filmed in extreme close up was chilling how Hannibal Lecter seemed to climb into your mind. What a control freak! Sir Anthony Hopkins is truly a phenomenal actor. I got the same feeling from Trinity actor, John Lithgow. On a fun note; I saw an interview on California’s Eye Witness News with Tawny Little just after Silence of the Lambs aired at the movies. She asked Sir Anthony Hopkins if it was difficult to go home each day and shake off the Dr. Lecter character. His response was amazing! He said that the actors in America “become” the character they play. “In England we just act!” Then he leaned in towards her & did that awful sucking, slurping sound from the movie. Tawny freaked out, letting out a shriek and jumped out of her chair and ran across the sound stage to get away on the live interview! “See! Acting!” He said, as he laughed! That was the best interview ever! I thought you might enjoy hearing about it!
As an aspiring actress, I don't just "watch" shows. I inhale every single scene, picking apart every nuance, carefully analyzing every word & expression. John Lithgow blew me away! Watching brilliant performances like his & Hall's are like free lessons in the Art of becoming the character. Kudos to the casting dept! I'm a life-long Horror fanatic & it takes a lot to creep me out. As "Trinity," Lithgow creeped me out in the most delicious way!
He is amazing. I don't understand how he can be so normal and portray a such a disturbing character on Dexter. I had all the episodes recorded on my DVR and I just finished watching them. Seriously, Just wow.
Best season hands down. Lithgow was so GOOD. It was hard for me to rewatch these episodes years later during pandemic times because back then it messed with my emotions!
Such an amazing performance. I just couldn't read him at all and I was always surprised by what he did. I think his performance is one-of-a-kind and made that storyline possible.
John Lithgow is so awesome as Trinity that every time i finish an episodes of Dexter i have to get my fix of Dick Solomon to reaffirm he isn't a killer out to get me!
WOW! Did anyone else get their Comcast network initiated to Xfinity? I got my upgrade before and AFTER this video. I haven't noticed a difference yet, but Comcast is such a generous company for doing this. They also upgraded my television several times during commercials last night, as well. I'm not even a paying customer, so thanks Comcast!
John Lithgow is just superb in everything he does. The first time I saw him was in "The World according to Garp" and I knew then this guy was an exceptional actor. He elevates everything he is in- including Dexter. Search - ode to dex - for my homage to dexter-
John Lithgow is probably 1 of the best actors on the planet at playing a bad guy .. he so convincence .. Dexter S4 is by far my favourite because of john lithgow performence
Litgow did an amazing job on Dexter this season. For such a comedic genius, he was outstanding! He totally deserves to win the GG for Supporting Actor. As does the show and MCH!
I never seen DEXTER before I rented it because I had nothing better to do After TWO episodes I was COMPLETELY ADDICTED Now ONLY 72 hours later Ive seen ALL three seasons! I need MORE DEXTER!!! What a PERFECT show in every way The suspense is KILLER

Underrated actor, He seems to be recognized only for antagonizing roles, but he's very versatile and brilliant with his delivery, much like Anthony Hopkins selling his performances as different characters, all the while avoiding being typecast as just Hannibal Lecter.
Don't tell the children. Cause they would run screaming. Loved his performance this season. Whether the scene was him with a victim or with his family or with Dex I was always on the edge of my seat. I agree with whoever said you never knew when this guy was going to snap. Can't wait for the new season.
I hated him in Dexter. Which means he was a great actor.
Loved him. He played the part so perfectly. I respected Lithgow as an actor far more after this performance.
Very repulsive character. Few actors can pull that off in a believable manner.
The whole time I wanted Dexter to kill him badly!
He was a fucking creep
He IS a magnificent actor.
"Hello Dexter Mogan" probably the creepiest scene in the entire show.
What about the bathtub scene in the first episode of Season 4, where he attacks the woman in the bathroom and slits her wrists when she is going in and out of consciousness? Also, the scene where he talks the woman into jumping off the building by threatening to kill her entire family in front of her if she doesn't? Don't think for a second that I am talking shit about you or disrespecting your opinion Hammering. For me, it was when Dexter is holding Vera and Arthur pins him to a wall.
Hammering Hank I was literally screaming in my living room when this aired. I had to keep pausing the episode because it was too overwhelming to watch.
tankmaster1018 “Hello, Dexter Morgan” is literally the most stressful phrase in the entire series. Not just Trinity. Idk what you’re talking about.
It’s one of the best scenes in the show for sure
I don't see John Lithgow in the same way anymore after his Dexter role.
Go binge watch 3rd Rock From The Sun. You'll be fine.
+joe bobby the best show there is
Try to watch Harry and The Hendersons. That was when i first saw Jonh... He's great in it and it's a touching story.
Lithgow has played bad guys before in films like Cliffhanger but the film in which he played a role that is closest to Arthur would probably be 1991's Ricochet with Denzel Washington.
Try watching shrek, lord farquaad is much more sinister.
It's genuinely difficult to look at him anymore after season 4.
Says a lot about his work
Same
Ikr😣
He played Arthur Mitchell so well
All fun and interesting interview untill he takes out his hammer 🔨⚒️ and smashes interviewers head 😂😁
It blows my mind that he is also the voice of Lord Farquaad from Shreck.
Onerom4728 wHAT!?
wtf thats crazy lmao
Onerom4728 mind blown lol hahaha
Lithgow has had a stunning career in film and television. What a life he's had.
how do you misspell 'Shrek' even 5 year old kids can spell it lmao
"A really anoyinnng ghost..."
That line delivery...
"Oooh oooh ooh"
Eric Dixon "hello... dexter morgan"
+PoloBoyPrince That bit cracked me up..
+Eric Dixon sounded like liam neeson
To his credit, Dexter being Kyle Butler was really annoying.
He was fucking amazing in that role.
john is amazing in any role. Such an incredible versatile actor. Yet he seems like he could be your next door neighbour, a very accessible man. Love him and everything he does.
He quoted the show, moron. Trinity killer says that to his wife during Thanksgiving dinner.

John Lithgow was awesome in his role as Arthur Mitchell. Season 4 might be my favorite season of Dexter! :)
Agreed
John Lithgow is a phenomenal actor. He played Trinity but he could turn on the menace in a split second and you genuinely felt it. He's been great in every role I've seen him in and he's critically underappreciated which is a crime.

Season 4 was definitely the best.
+Draven Season 1 too obvs
Infragilis Terminatio thank god season 6 was not in there.
+Draven Personally, season 1 was my favorite. But season 4 will be my second favorite
Season 2 for me, Doakes chasing Dexter was the most intense one for me... Season 4 would be second. I used to love season 1 but rewatched it to the point were I just got bugged by it.
Draven yes !
He's not a medical examiner 😒 he's a forensics lab geek/blood spatter analysis, gosh!
exactly
That pissed me off when he said Dexter was a medical examiner!!
Iron your panties because they've got creases from being in a wad.
lab geek my ass
Banaanipässi FIN I see what you did there 😏
This guy might be an alien. Its almost 20 years since 3rd rock began and he looks exactly the same.
13 years as of this interview.
+István Supka lol man.

"Well I am the High Commander..."
@@Amadeus8484 You underestimate my power.
He made Season 4 the best Season of them all. Great Actor !
John lithgow is a great actor, he can play any role. He belongs up there with Daniel Day Lewis, John Malkovich, Edward Norton even Sam Rockwell.
FTS Messamore A shout out to Gary Oldman too
Lol, John Malkovich always plays John Malkovich xD
If anyone who just plays themselves, it's Nicholas Cage. Director's don't think "We need this kind of character, I wonder if Nicholas Cage can fit into it", they say "this needs a Nicholas Cage".

his voice is amazing
It’s crazy to watch him in dexter then watch him in 3rd rock from the sun. Couldn’t be more opposite of a role He is truely an amazing actor
he'd be a great Hannibal Lecter.
Funny enough, they actually considered him for Hannibal and then ended up going with Anthony Hopkins!!!
John would have done it better, he's great as a killer
Alpaca Male yes, that's what I was thinking
True
Ikrr
You know someone's an epic actor when they are so convincing and real on screen that when you see them being interviewed you say no, that can't be the same person!
Lithgow's portrayal of a serial killer was damn-near Oscar worthy!
he won an emmy for this role as outstanding actor in a guest role for a drama series. best supporting actor performance golden globe, and was nominated against Michael C hall for best male performance by the screen actors guild (Dexter's actor won)
If you want more of the "psychotic" side of Lithgow, then I'd recommend the forgotten thriller "Ricochet" from '91, also starring Denzel Washington.
Earl Talbot Blake. I never saw him the same after that role.
I just gotta say that i just finished watching the last episode in season 4, and after watching it i stood up and applaude. Most amazing performance i have ever seen on tv. The entire season was just amazing.
Hey bud, you still here 12 years later?
Damn 12 years

The Thanksgiving scene at Mitchell's house was amazing.

Great job just rewatched series again!
Dexter's not a medical examiner...
The Trinity Killer may be creepy, but Hannibal Lecter blew my mind (but didn't eat it) with the Silence of the Lambs.
Of course. Hannibal Lecter is a classic
Pranav Rao what is it about? and what is the series full name? i cant find it
Pranav Rao Just watched the trailer, it looks good. Thanks

Such an amazing performance. I just couldn't read him at all and I was always surprised by what he did. I think his performance is one-of-a-kind and made that storyline possible.
John Lithgow is an amazing actor. I just loved him on Dexter and he made me laugh for years in 3rd Rock from the Sun.
I met John Lithgow at a Laker game a few years before Dexter. One of the nicest men around..then I see these episodes...freaky. Great show!

Dexter and Lithgow are fabulous! 3rd Rock was incredible.
Yes, Raising Cain was and incredible performance by John Lithgow.
This guy definitely writes children's books.
I have a huge crush on Ray Stevenson(He was a sk in Dexter too), but I'm glad the award went to Lithgow, no one else can master that role like he did.

One of my favorite actors.
John Lithgow ALWAYS has the most cruel and strange messed up characters .
HE IS GREAT ! 💥💥💥
I was so happy when John Lithgow joined the show. He is so awesome!
such a fantastic actor, so underrated
I hadn't realized he was such a great actor until Dexter!
Lithgow is such a versatile great actor. He should do more movies!!!
"DON'T tell the children about Dexter."
Lol, that line was delivered perfectly. Lithgow is the man.

Before Dexter, I only knew him from 3rd rock and didn't really think much of him. Now, I find him to be an absolutely brilliant actor.
LOVED him on this season!!!
The fact that Lithgow can go from Dexter to Daddy's Home 2 is amazing. I never knew such a teddy bear could scare the shit out of me
