  • When Jamie and Frantz Arty bought a stately Colonial-style house in 2018 they didn't know it was once owned by a prominent New York abolitionist and judge. #somethingnew #december2021

I just came across this show. This family in Long Island is beautiful! I love that Jamie embraces history with her own twist and wanting whimsy throughout as well. Beautiful job they have done!

I love this show, this episode in particular. My reason for loving this home is two-fold. First, I love the home's history the original owner being an abolitionist who hired a woman of color who bought her own freedom. I love that they thought of her like family and had her buried in the family plot next to them and that 190 years later, a family of color bought and restored the home. The second thing I love is the wife's philosophy about childhood and how to create a sense of the wonder of that time in a person's life through color choice, decor and the little fairy doors she had placed throughout the home. I hope that she won't mind that I borrowed her phrase, "Bathe in the Moonlight of Childhood for as long as possible." The house, the family--just lovely.

Gorgeous!! I used to drive by this house when I still living on the north shore. So glad this home stayed true to the home's bones. Congrats

Love older homes. Great bonus when the homes have an interesting history.
