Great video. im learning alot. Although ive been a parent since 18yrs ago, so many things are confusing as a mother of 4 with more of my kid's being 14yrs 12yrs and 5yrs. i still need help, as technology has taken over my kids lives and i cant seem to find enough to do. But i did comment this previously and got some good links that im reading through. My 14yr old currently finds reading very boring even though i bought him books he actually wanted he chooses to play on his tablet and laptop instead of reading. i think i need to off the wifi and have them listen to me read. like reading time.
I had the same problem and got rid of everything, laptops, and old phones that are still connected to wifi and even cancel the wifi. Kept only my phone and the printer, lol. It made a huge difference in our home. The kids were bored for 2 weeks, and they started to read books after all. So long as the things are in the House, they don't disconnect from those digital devices. They're were begging every day.
Thank you for reaching out! Glad that the previous links have been helpful. It is a struggle when there are other activities available that he may prefer. Even as adults, we can relate to wanting to do what we want and not always what we should. New habits require consistent effort and a strong will. Both of these are areas where we can help our children by establishing routines to encourage new habits in their lives. You may not yet be able to rely on him choosing what you would like for him to choose or to balance his time on his own, you may have to help him by placing limits for days/times on those more preferred activities so that he devotes some of his time to reading and can establish a new habit of reading into his weekly routine. If you have not yet read this link, this may be of help to you in starting to establish new habits with an older child. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/habits-q-and-a-starting-with-older-children-dealing-with-negativity/
Hi, Thank you for reaching out with your question! We do not have a specific recommendation for that author however, here is a great post on living books that will outline the principles used in determining if a book meets that criteria. While we do have booklists of recommended books it is also a great skill to learn how to use these principles and apply them to new titles to determine if you feel that book meets the criteria for a living book and if it is a good fit for your individual family. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/what-a-living-book-sounds-like/
