They are going to be the 2nd best team in the east next year, just like they were this year. Hopefully they stay healthy enough to play against the Celtics in the ECF. But even if they don't, they are still going to be a top 5 team in the league for the next 5 years.
You have to be a bit more than a casual to understand why the value was there for the Knicks to trade those picks for Bridges. The way the CBA is today you can't have more than maybe 2 max contracts on your team, Bridges may not be an all-star as of today, but his contract is VERY team friendly. If you compare it to Paul George for example hes being paid 30+ more mil a year. These types of contracts are what is so valuable to a team like the Knicks who are in win now mode. Its much more than just that as well with team chemistry, age and what not. It is a situation where the value is hard to see but it is 100% there.
The Knicks gave up way too much, and I honestly couldn’t care less. This is so much better than the 2000’s and 2010’s when we would give up all our draft capital for a name, regardless of fit. There is an actual vision here, and I’m all for it. Let’s Goooo!!!! 🗽🏀

This looks like a great trade for the Knicks after watching the 1st round of the draft last night. Wow. It was filled with "potential" and "upside". If you have to develop your picks for 3 years to make them worth anything, who cares?
It makes perfect sense for them not to want any draft picks for this draft as it is seen as sub par.

Center: Hartenstein enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2023-24, averaging 7.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks per game in 75 contests (49 starts). He's set to be a free agent, so the Knicks will need to replace him if they don't bring him back. Even if they do, New York could use more center depth as it will reportedly explore trading the oft-injured Mitchell Robinson. 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀 ~
Bench scoring: The Knicks had to rely almost exclusively on their starters during the 2024 NBA Playoffs because of injuries, but even before that, their bench scoring was lacking. While midseason acquisition Bojan Bogdanovic helped by averaging 10.4 points per game, his averages were still below that of Immanuel Quickley (15.0 points per game). And Bogdanovic was traded to the Nets in the Bridges deal, so his presence will be missed. Meanwhile, Alec Burks and Evan Fournier fell out of the rotation, so adding a microwave scorer and 3-point shooter to bolster New York's offense would be a nice way to complement Thibodeau's excellent defense.

Knicks fans can never take that step back and look at things realistically. They're like the Cowboys fans of the NBA
Rich assumes these picks will all be low picks, but some of those are far enough away that they'll end up being lottery picks, maybe even top 3, and the way it goes for the Knicks, one of them will end up being a huge star, playing in their city, and we'll hear the "what ifs" from them for years.
We now have the coach who grinds players down vs. the player with the iron man streak.
doesnt matter.. youre not going to break up the leadership nucleus just like youre not going to break up the player nucleus. picks take years to develop. rj barret was one of those level picks.. took a long time for the knicks to develop him and he ended up being a bad fit. now they learned that good fit its worth its weight in gold. for many years even. increase the nucleus. by the time one of those picks emerges to be a star the knicks could have pulled off two chips. or one chip and some really entertaining years like the 90s knicks didnt even have a chip.. yet they were in the fight even made a finals appearence. the knicks will take a larger focus on injury management next season.. but remember that the longer you play the more minutes you can use as practice in the actual game. basketball is like swimming to get far and perform you need to control your breath. long range runners know how to become this over the course of the season. and then thats why the knicks were really good at execution in the last 2 minutes ( except for out of bounds plays ) .. they had toughness down the stretch of games. NONE of the Knicks players last season were in the top 10 MPG in the NBA. Randle, dislocated shoulder, freak injury. Mitch, broken foot, not even midway through the season. Brunson, broken hand in the playoffs. OG, strained hamstring, on a fast break sprint going full speed. Even his players said he doesn't work them hard on practice. They prioritize the mental aspect and watch video to have mental repetition of where they need to be and what correction they must make game to game. These 🤡 takes and narratives are tiresome and lazy.

The only worry I have now is that the Knicks might be stupid enough to trade Randle, a 2 time all-star that commanded the fifth most double teams in the entire NBA and gave you Ewing like numbers of 24 and 10. If Randle had played against the 76ers and the Pacers, it would have been a matchup Hell because neither team has anyone to guard him straight up, with the possible exception of Siakum. But then who would guard O.G.?

Terrible trade. Bridges is a solid player, but this is just stupid. All you needed to do was to get your team healthy and reload for the next season after signing OG and Hartenstein. You also had massive draft capital so you can continue the pipeline of new talent.
