- We hope you enjoyed the second part of this road trip! Thanks to Shell for sponsoring it, find out more about Shell V-Power Unleaded here: bit.ly/DriveTribe-Shell-H2
After Richard Hammond showed Mike Fernie his favourite strip of Tarmac, it's now Mike's turn to guide Richard up to Scotland to experience one of the greatest roads in the UK. It's a very different recipe to Richard's Buttermere road, but will allow both supercharged V8s to properly sing.

You should do a road trip between Hammond's Impreza and your Mondeo ST.
I heard a rumour the Mondeo is no more
@@fatbobe1986 Oh. That's sad.
@@HenryBrooke1998 it is 🙁
@@fatbobe1986 why, what happened to it?
@@daniellyons7190 accident I believe. I hope I've been misinformed
You should definitely be making more content like this, it also gives people from other countries, like me, the opportunity to get to know the roads of the UK
They are roads, what do you needs to know?
I agree more like this!
I think this is kinda where it stops for the two of them, being the nature of the why they chose the roads. But it would be cool/funny to see Hammond driving May’s favorite road or Clarkson’s favorite stretch.
Very well said. I LOVED this.
and why would WE want YOU to know where OUR best roads are - so that they then become congested.
Hammond describing memorizing the road then going through it in your mind to fall asleep, being able to pick whichever car you want, is something I didn't know I wanted.
currently nearly midnight and I can't sleep, off to kent I go in mu st225😊
I love how done with everything Hammond looks when the bagpipes comes on.
That was superb. I found it very reminiscent of the early Top Gear/Grand Tours specials with the boys messing about but also sharing the incredible scenery. More please! 🙂
Nailed it 😎
and moments and insights and some explanation of things and thought's, so lovely
Yes, absolutely more road trip content like this! These road trip videos harken back to the top gear and grand tour specials, and it’s a joy to watch. I think Richard was onto something when he suggested doing something like this with an older car. It would be interesting to see some of the other cars from the smallest cog do a road trip.
This is the best thing Drivetribe has ever made. Bravo
I know this was just a 2 part show but I'd watch more of these. Mike and Richard are a perfect team
Violins and supercharger noises was a unexpectedly pleasant mix, awesome montage for the Duke's pass section and overall amazing production quality and cinematic, props to the entire team
Supercharger noises are some of the best sounds the motoring world will ever know. I also agree with all the other comments about how we love this series. Well done!
The NC500 is the best road trip in the uk, absolutely amazing. Go every year, never gets old and there’s so much to see
Except its bumper to bumper these days unfortunately
Worst thing that's ever happened to this part of the country.
@@jamesmacd
I did the NC500 over a week in September 2021, after being shut indoors since April of the previous year. The missus and I took our Octavia VRs, which comfortably chewed up the miles.
It was absolutely one of the defining periods of my life. No joke. To have been stuck inside for the majority of the previous year, it was the perfect setting to reinvigorate yourself. With the restrictions still being quite tough, and many people still too scared to venture further than the local chippy, the entire route was very quiet, the only real pain being the occasional camper van doing 12mph up uphill in 2nd lol
I think every car/driving enthusiast should have it on their bucket list, as it is genuinely one of the most beautiful and thrilling sections of road in the world.
@@robinhadley when it comes to tourists and camper vans yes, but backpacking and wild camping I feel is a bit different. I'm allowed to travel in my own country freely
@@jamesmacd the north east 250 is an amazing drive as well, and no where near as busy
That was cool. Never been to Scotland so anything where they show it is a pure pleasure.
I feel genuinely blessed to have lived in Scotland for most of the past 25 years. The Dukes Pass looks stunning, but I don’t think anything will top the A93 on a sunny day for me. Was lucky enough to drive it most weeks visiting the fiancé as she was back then in Blairgowrie from my home in Lossiemouth. Via the Dava moors road too for extra grin factor
I really enjoy the scenic roadtrips ive been a fan of it since they started doing little bits on Top Gear.
Thank you for this series! All to short in my opinion, also great drone footage.
Glad you like them!
Definitely more road trip content like this, loved it. Especially as its UK based
Kudos to Mike and the crew for these absolute gems of films in this road trip
Pt 2 did not disappoint- 100% you’ve got to do more road trip style content!
I spent 25 years living and driving Perthshire roads like this one and there are many, many more that are worthy of a Drivetribe video, from the blast around loch Rannoch to the step back in time from Amulree to Kenmore via Glen Quaich. Even the more mainstream A822 from Crieff through the Sma' Glen is pretty dramatic. Or over the shoulder of Ben Lawers to Glen Lyon, something that is more terrifying done in a landrover than a mini as the extra height makes the drop offs seem that bit more dangerous :D
As soon as Mike mentioned Stirling, I knew it was going to be the Duke’s Pass. What a piece of road that is. I’ve driven it three times, once in the dark which was interesting but yes that for me stuck in my memory as being one of the best roads I’ve driven. The best part is the winding up the hill from Aberfoyle, but once you get past the Ben A’an car park then past Loch Venachar it becomes a bit rougher and narrower. Glad to see it gets the recognition!
Having family there thought "is that Aberfoyle?!" from the shots at 6:30 onwards, and then obviously realised they were going to dukes pass.
Maybe I'm spoiled with having driven it too many times but don't feel like it's quite the revolutionary experience they describe here.. best part is definitely the first half up the hill past the visitor center etc as you say.
I'll be taking my 1932 Morris Minor Two-Seater from my home in the south Midlands to the Scottish Highlands towards the end of the month. Should take me two days to get north of Glasgow and into the Highlands. It's definitely going to be the most challenging road trip of my life so far, but I can't wait to hit the road and head north.
Mike’s decisions to play bagpipes upon entering Scotland followed by provision of copious amounts of Irn Bru was magnificent to watch. More of these trip videos please!
As someone who knows Richard Hammond since early Top Gear days I have to say I am stunned how connected to nature and how...whats the word...philosophical Hampster has become in his talking about the car as a instrument to connect people with places. And as someone from Germany who has visited all of Scandinavia and Iceland I have to say: This landscape, I got to see in the videos of drivetribe (and the guys from car throttle driving the nc 500) is absolutely stunning. I have to visit this magnificant country.
I loved this series. Mike and Richie have a great dynamic between them.
Yes!! I knew it was going to be the Dukes Pass..... Excellent Choice! I love that road 😍 Hard working drive but so rewarding in the right car.
Personally I prefer Callander to Fort William, although I've not done the pass for a while.
You and Hammond should do a Tour of the North of Scotland, this two part series has been amazing and I'd love to see more 😎
I grew up just West of Glasgow in a small village and learnt to drive on roads like this. So glad I had a Peugeot 205 as my first car and no cell phone. 30+ years later and living over 4,000 miles away now I still remember some of them. Thanks for making these videos, brought back to mind some fun times
wish I was driving along with you guys
Mike is living his best life and I love it! Going on a road trip with Hammond would be incredible
I’m sad. I recognised Aberfoyle before they turned right up the hill. It is a stunning road.
Me too, the secret is now out…😢
One of the best and most elaborate Shell V-Power adverts I've ever seen since part one.
I remember the first I went to Dukes Pass! It was midnight, and I couldn't really see much in front, but the lovely notes of the 4GR singing away under the bonnet of my IS250 were just simply splendid. I'm so glad that it's only a 40 min journey from home, it's a very special road for me as well.
I visited the Dukes Pass twice today. Once with my sister and brother in law, a lovely scenic drive. I then went up, in a modded VW Golf GTI, driven by my nephew. He knows this road so well. What a day!
Thank you for coming to our village and up dukes pass and also it was very nice to have experienced all of you at our Pub
The Dukes pass is now on my radar. My personal favourite stretch of road is currently Tyndrum to Oban. Great video guys.
Awesome. I really enjoyed seeing where Hammond took us, but I was hoping Mike didn't disappoint with the Scottish selection. I was brought up in Gartmore, just 3 miles away from the Duke's Pass. I've many similar driving roads in my repertoire, but the Duke's Pass is my No1
Really like this sort of content. Need to do one of these for Clarkson's favorite road and May's favorite road too.
Clarkson never seems to contribute much to this channel so I don't see that happening. Hopefully May would get involved though.
@@HendrickT-bi4iw Yeah I don’t really know why he’s so against this kind of content
@@joshuaspeedy4780 In Clarkson's defense he just seems like a GENUINELY busy man, and doesn't really have a whole lot of free time to contribute to a channel like this.
What a stunning series of videos. It captures what I love so dearly in car culture. The personal insight on why each road was special was beatiful and had goosbumps the whole time. More like this please!
Definitely MORE contents like this, pretty PLEASE!!! As the bond between you and Richard, is definitely developing into something special... loving the chilled, personal attributes to the vlog, roads, person. Annnnd the views...Wow the views!!!
Didn't really expect to be this early. But thanks for giving me a video to take my mind off things :)
Homesick alert!! I was born and raised in Scotland but now live in Florida. I love videos like this for the scenery, the filming, the banter. Keep it up gents, would love to see far more in the future.
More road trips and pub chats please!!!! This content is stellar!
Brilliantly done, Mike! It was so joyful to watch you both doing this road trip. And to answer your question: yes, more like this pretty please. I really start to like those more intimate films here more than those big tgt-spacials. And I enjoy seeing you growing into an equal presenter to Hammond. And having you, I think Hammond also gained back a certain honesty and accessibility. Very very cool!
Watching this just makes me miss my time in Scotland even more. Took a trip up there last year in my m3 with a bunch of friends and had the best time ever.
This video was brilliant, best one yet. As a Scottish expat living abroad it gave me goosebumps looking at the beautiful scenery we have on our door steps. I used to love driving in the highlands.
As for roads go, I remember the Stelvio. That was incredible. Richard, did you ever think a perfect country road could be that close to home, for you to drive and experience?? Great and gorgeous drive guys. Thanks.
Stelvio is extremely overrated 😀
Beautiful view, but the drive is nothing desirable. If you have the opportunity to do it sure, but don't expect any dream drive.
Same goes for Furka.
Both bumpy with campervans.
Yes, please do more of this content!
Cars are amazing. Driving them is amazing. And now I want to go for a drive myself. And maybe visit this part of Scotland one day.
Brilliant guys. Defiantly more of these. You can see you and Hammond genuinely get one Great to watch.
Thank you for taking me along on this road trip. This little two part film was so well made, it felt like I was really there. Awesome job done by all!
Loved these! Yes some more of these would be great along with the already wonderful content! Thanks to Both of you and your teams!
This is incredibly high end production quality. Fantastic content front to back. Thank you!
This series gave me goosebumps. I love the Top Gear crew
I'd love to see you do another road trip anywhere, but next time in a Ford Focus RS. The A940 is very pretty and very special driving road between Grantown-on Spey and Forres. I love Scotland btw.
That was an amazing 2 parter across 2 stunning roads, totally not jealous at all. Taking any car along either would be simply outstanding and those views, just wow.
This video brought back so many memories for me! And it’s amazing that we have the same favourite road back home in Scotland. I drove this road the day after past my driving test when I was 17!
I love this! It’s been my favourite driving road since I was 17/18 too. Literally had an early finish at work the other day and took my m140i up for a blast it’s phenomenal
Been back and forward on that road 100 times. I completely Agree with Mike, its a fabulous drivers road. love it. Had a Saxo VTR, back in the day, was great fun up there.
+1 .. Gotta luv the scenery throughout the Road Trip ... Do more guys.. Cheers, Vail, Colorado
Utterly superb. More road trip content between you two! Mike seems so much more at ease around Richard as well.
Absolute goosebumps, tears and joy. Incredible piece of video content.
Thank you Shell 🐚 for making this possible.
YES! More of these trips with you two, please, with as many great cars and roads as you can! Lovely stuff.
Would love to see more road trips. Love this content. Great to see both show a bit of personal stuff. Also love the editing on this series too.
Well done to the production team. That looked fantastic with great music too. A+
Absolutely more of this! This pair of videos have such a vibe to them. Proper work chaps, loved it!
As a Canadian biker/car enthusiast, this road has been on my bucket list since age 20. Thanks for the great video, will make it someday 🤞
Just watched both parts back to back. Would love to see more of this type of content!
Fantastic content! You guys work very well together!
Love these vids, keep it up!!! Nice plug for Shell, that's a sponsorship I support.
This is some of the best content you've made. Love the running gag with the pipes. More of this please!
This is such a heartwarming video. I want more of these please!!
There is so much romance in the way Richard talks about driving and roads and cars it’s moving.
both of the videos were a great watch. really enjoyed the sceneries. would love to drive down these roads one day
A 10" wheeled Mini would be fun along that road. Smiles per miles, 11/10.
More road trip content yes absolutely yes please and thank you. Wonderful series, guys - thoroughly enjoyable.
Yes please more road trips you two are great together
Scenery is great also
Absolutely love these 2 videos!! Please provide more information for the 2 routes featured. Definitely will hire a decent car with a manual box and drive up north when there’s a chance to spend a longer trip to the UK❤
This was the most top gear thing since top gear! So much nostalgia from this. More please!
I grew up a couple of villages away from Aberfoyle and have known this road for years - it's a cracking drive.
Genuinely one my favourite viewing experiences of recent years, you're spot on with the dynamic, heartfelt banter, and refreshingly engaging content. I'd love to see more like this.
OH YESSSS !!!! is the clear (and probably obvious) answer to your question at the end !
you are really taking us on the journey WITH YOU. and for 20 minutes or so I completely forget I'm sitting at my desk watching a screen. just wonderful.
Thank you both for this wonderful two-parter! Over here in Canada, we're anxiously awaiting car season to start, so that we can get our cars out and hit the road like this. Gotta love a relaxing, scenic drive! 😎 👍
Absolutely brilliant. Love the two parter.
You guys cannot stop doing these videos. Would love to see Mike in the grand tour in the future.
Yes more please!! Had a bit of the old top gear specials about it. Loved it!
This is without a doubt one of the best roads I have ever drove on. The dukes pass is incredible and it literally test any drivers ability. Definitely a top 5 road for me. Love having roads like this out my back door.
More please. These were delightful. An yeah I'm putting Buttermere on my list for next time.
These were really enjoyable to watch, thank you 👍
I'm loving the whiskey glass analogy. I'm appropriating it, and making it my own!

I can definitely attest to the virtues of Shell Premium V-Power fuel.
(FYI I am NOT being paid by Shell… I WISH!!)
Years ago I bought my first Toyota Corolla, I had that car for 13 years, hey it’s a Toyota.
Never had any problems with it outside of regular maintenance, other than parts wearing out as the car got closer to 300,000 Km.
At around year 10 the eng started to feel quite sluggish and I thought for sure it was at the end. However, a friend of mine told me to watch a CZcams video by Scottie Kilmer (an honest mechanic) who talked about the virtues of Shell Premium V-Power gasoline (Petrol) on high mileage engines.
I decided to try it and after just two tank fulls of the stuff my engine was running like new!!
When I finally sold my Corolla after 13 years (and it sold rather quickly) it was still running like a clock at 340,000 Km.
(And no, I’m not being paid by Toyota either. 😢)
No word of lie, that Shell V-Power fuel cleaned my poor little old Corolla out like an entire box of Ex-Lax!!! 😂👍🏼
BTW I LOVE bagpipe music, grew up with it in Nova Scotia.
This is why I love the Drive Tribe, videos like this brings you back to the og Grand Tour and even the old Top Gear.
More Road Trip content? Absolutely yes!!!
Loved this series
Wow. Mike can play the Bagpipe. Very cool. Nice Mini Series, woulndt mind more of it.
I have to give some extra attention to the exelent filming. All the wievs, close ups, drone flying. Then how wonderful the editing were made. Have to give the crew 5/5 thumbs!
😎👍👍👍👍👍
This road and scenery reminds me of my home on the Oregon coast in the US. Lots of similar roads and scenery in parts. I’m sure many other places fit that as well. Always nice to know where beautiful roads are.
Fabulous photography!
Yes! More please ❤
Dukes pass is just something else. Went on the road heading up to Ben A'an in-between rain showers in October last year.
Complements for the content; it was proper in all aspects. Very entertaining and what a delight to see Richard so peaceful. Thank you.
More, definitely more! Thank you guys!
Great bit of background score excellent scenic shots, great work.
The Mennock and Dalveen passes in Dumfries are wonderful roads, just over the border as well. Worth a visit!
