Next "may the forth" (be with you)
You realy need to do something Starwars stuff with the laser. Its pefect. Its ment to be. Its the force compelling you. Use the force Sam , use the force
A GREEN ACRE HOMESTEAD sign; small wood tags with the names of the soaps Angela makes to label while drying or on the shelf; photos of your boys to hang in their rooms. I love to watch you make things on the laser cutter
New to laser engraving and this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for, from the wall mounting to the grid.
Looks like a nice little machine that could make someone a few bucks on the side!
Sam, you just made me subscribe for two reasons. I have many of the same tools and space limitations as you. I now have the info I need to mount my new LM2 Pro and my old LM2
to mount with those L brackets for the legs, and hanging both on the wall when I need that table for
flattening slabs of live edge wood. Great video Thank You.
Great idea, Sam.
Very interesting concept. Could be a huge space saver but maybe some technical issues..
Good to see you in your Shop!!!
Thanks 👍
Nice storage idea! I cut a sheet of aluminum as a base for mine after burning the table. I've also made an air assist from an old Aquarium compressor which helps with cutting and added an overhead webcam. The camera really makes lining up your cut to the workpiece super quick and convenient. My biggest project so far was a jigsaw puzzle I made from our company logo. Lots of fun!
Wow! I have lots more to learn about these things then!
That laser is incredible , I bet your mind is buzzing with ideas.
Another great idea..thanks for helping us newbies..
Outside the box? how about custom wood boxes for the soaps with it engraved on the box???
Really neat idea.
That looks amazing! You are the man!
Good evening Sam, once again watching my fave crafter .
Pretty darn cool looking.
Thanks!
Great videos on the Ortur Laser Master 2 Sam! Very helpful as I'm setting mine up right this instant. Can't wait to use it. I noticed that it's almost the exact same size as $5 Ikea Lack side table. Those tables also have the exact spacing for 18" rack so I mounted the laser engraver on one of those, put my printer and stuff on another one, mounted them on top of eachother, added an 18" rack power supply et voila :D Huray for Ikea hacks!
That's awesome! I am about to start building the table with enclosure for mine and will engrave my spoil board at that point.
Awesome! I under-estimated the usefulness of this laser and am looking to build a dedicated station for it very soon!
Turned out nice.
Very cool project. Thanks.
Sam, really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
Looks really good,
Very nice Sam! Thanks for sharing
Cool. Nice work.
As always great work. How about mounting the laser on the wall but low enough so it could simply be folded up while still attached to the to the wall to make its own table?
We are fairly new to all of this. Love love your videos, they make me feel like I can do this! Not sure if you know answers to my questions, but here goes…We have a ortur laser master 2 pro. I want to mount it (L bracelets, why didn’t I think of that! Thank you) for registration purposes and burn a grid. The focus knob is very difficult to turn, sooooo I was wondering if a scissor jack to adjust the piece for focus? No, it did not come with the auto focus piece I’ve seen. Mine did not come with the laser shield either, do you know If either one is available? I airbrush… so I am planning on adding air assist. I will keep watching your videos, to learn more and maybe answer my questions. Keep up the good work! I always believe in passing it forward so others don’t struggle like I have. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge!
Cool! Your logo looks great!
pretty cool!
Love your Bee coasters.
Thanks! They'll be added to our small online business very soon (in a few days max). greenacrehomestead.com
Drill holes all the way through the template and waste board. One top left and one bottom right. Then dowels can be used as bench dogs to keep the template in the same spot every time.
Been working on a big template this past week with just those things! Great minds think alike!
Sam I have the first model Ortur made and I added a camera that really makes placement of your stock precisely where you need it.
I also use LightBurn great program!
😀🛫
i’m an 80s baby, 90s kid comic book lover (Teenage mutant ninja turtles!) I have the shapeoko 3 XXL. Been wanting a laser for a while. An idea that i’ve had for a long time now and honestly would love to see you steal it to see if it works is to put comic book covers on a piece of light wood at the size of the actual comic books dimensions! Figured this may be up your alley after the goonies and avengers projects. Keep up the awesome work sam. You’re videos inspire and motivate me
Great ideas. Would look awesome hanging on a wall all grouped together
Love the Muzak while you are in LB! LOL
Sweet!
Ooh I can't wait to see what you create. Can't wait to place an order Sammy ☺️. Whether you realize it, or not you have a great advantage over lots of people your age. You have great skills and you are also tech savvy. I have skills and creative abilities, but not tech savvy. I'm also 49 and feeling older by the minute. Make sure you make the most from those skills and you'll do great in life. Sorry going Mama Bear LoL 😂. Can't help it, you remind me so much of my oldest son.
Awesome work! I’m sure it won’t be long before you make a jig to be able to laser engrave on your wood turning projects.
Probably not too long! :)
I make a lot of Christmas ornaments with my Shapeoko 3 and have always thought it would be nice to be able to laser names and dates instead of using small v bits. Also seen a lot of coasters with Laser engraving on the front and maker information on the back.
This would work really well for those purposes.
I like the idea and told my wife I was going to store mine on the wall. Two things. I know you have a dust system but it might not be perfect. Will dust hurt the laser equipment? Second, might I suggest you cut out part of the middle to accommodate a roller attachment or a taller project? Take out the center for a thicker project, use blocks to raise it up and burn away. I saw in a reply to another comment that you could remove the screws. I think I would get tired of doing that.
that is very cool
Sam----PLEASE!!!!!!!! Adjust the feet on your table saw before a relatively uneventful day goes very bad very fast. Seeing the saw wobble like that while you were using it sent chills up and down my spine.
Sorry about that. It's on the caster wheels in that instance to clear the workbench height. Excuses, I know... Thanks for the reminder though, need to get it addressed soon. I hate it too.
Once again Sam, you are one step ahead of me. I am saving up for that very engraver too. Is the laser strong enough to cut through 1/8 inch plywood? I was thinking of using it like a little glow forge to make clean box joints for custom gift boxes. No dog bones needed on th corners.
I haven't put it through cut tests yet, so aren't sure.
Could you use it ON the wall? Maybe if it was canted out with a spacer at the bottom just an inch you could lay whatever flat piece you are engraving on it and have it operate in a vertical position?
Nice video Sam!!!
Hi, I have a ortur master 2 but I haven't receive the spacer so I can adjust my laser focus.
Can you advise me what I have to buy or order.
Thanks I standby on your answer
Really love that base grid design Sam! I'm about to set up my LM2 Pro tomorrow and was wondering if you had those spaced out at every odd interval on center. Also, what speed/power settings did you use for the crosshairs? Thanks, Adam
Shoot me an email and I'll send you the Lightburn file for it if you want. :) sam@sam-craft.com
There's more stress on the motor. Longevity is compromised. But rad idea
It's just for storage 😅 I think...
Looking forward to your feedback after you have used it for awhile. I have seen mixed reviews but I think most were on a previous version.
@@Samcraftcom Great if it is a good review will have to add it to my shop along with my Shapeoko XXL. Love both of your channels!
I just bought a different brand but am faced with the same problem; where to put it. I'm thinking about hinging my mounting board to a wall so I can lift it up when not in use. Just have to space it out from the wall, sucker is taller than you think
That's a cool idea
Did I miss a build? Love the mitre station 😁
Don't think so?
Shoot, I thought you were going to make the laser usable while mounted vertically. The stepper motors probably aren't strong enough for that anyway. Also, thanks for not drilling with Forstner bit at 10,000 rpm.
I just added 2 Lego build plates of 25x25cm to my base, makes it the best modular base for jigs. 😂 That are remixble so easy with Lego bricks.
I bought the white plates zo the laser doesn't hurt it so fast.
Not really a laser project, but you might want to consider some "Air Asist" to help get some really crisp lines and help with cutting.
Great video. Keep it lit.
Thanks for the tip, I'll have to look into what that is and how to do it. :)
what is that cool drill depth tool?
Can a laser engraver work if it hung on the wall
Hi Sam, love your channel. Quick question if you don’t mind. I’m looking at the ortur laser master pro 2. Have you had success engraving your slate coasters with it? If so, what power and speed settings do you use?
Yes, absolutely! It's the workhorse laser engraver of my small business. 5000 mm/min at 80% is my personal sweet spot, but you'll want to run tests on yours to make sure and find your own laser's best settings.
Hi Sam I have now bought a outer master pro s2 and can’t find anywhere what sort of depth of cut max can I cut 6mm 1/4in?
I'm curious, the bed height doesn't see very high. Would it be possible to mount it high enough to say, slide a 2" tall cutting board under it? I'm looking for a less expensive way to engrave logos into my boards (really don't want to shell out for a glowforge).
Absolutely! You could put the machine on riser blocks easily on the four corners. I totally hear you on not wanting to dive deep into the money pit!
I would LOVE coasters. Engraved in anything really. With an H on them.
Send me an email at info@greenacrehomestead.com I'll be adding monogram items very soon!
What size was the Backerboard??? Thanks
You're good. +1 👍
Where did you find the metal brackets that secure the ortur to the board? Thanks!
They came in the kit with the Ortur.
Do you have plans for making signs? I have a design for a sign for my egg business but I don't have the equipment or know-how to make it, except to draw it out and cut it with an Exacto knife then paint it.
Finding sign making material has become very difficult in the area I live. The two closest (within 30 miles one way) wood supply stores shut down last year. It's really changed what I've been able to do.
From the title I thought you were going to engrave things on the wall lol
Looks like it's a keeper! Got to safe my nickels and get my own! :)
It earned a spot on the tool wall, so I'd say so! :)
Which light burn program works with the Ortho L2-4?
You have to use gcode
Can you make a sign without covering all that white space and losing time by programming the laser to work like a router. If the line needs more width the laser moves over ( a small amount ) once and follows the first line making the line wider without the head going like a scalded dog.
I’m going to experiment with veneers. It would be great to have you cut out your logo in veneers it’s will show how accurate the Orturo can be.
What is stopping you from using the laser engraver while it is still hanging on the wall?
I think securing the work pieces would be a hassle.
Could it be run on the wall? Maybe even at an angle?
Perhaps... though I worry about the stepper motors fighting gravity more than they were designed for.
Make some tool holders, like pencils, drill bits and small items like that
Cool ideas!
Sam, can I send you a file and ask if this should be carved or burnt with a laser?
Sam, you may already have this planned , but I want to run something past you . How about having a bank of sockets that you can plug your gear into . perhaps at the end of a bench ? or a socket tower ? that can be pushed down into the bench and tidy it away .
I second this idea. I did that in my kitchen and it’s great.
@@angelacross2216 I did the same in our kitchen. Two 4 foot outlet strips, one on each wall in the corner where most of the electrical appliances live (stand mixer, air fryer, electric kettle, etc). I drilled thru one wall to the laundry room to plug one strip into a different circuit, so the instant pot and air fryer or kettle don't blow the breaker when used at the same time😊
Is there a rotary attachment for that ?
ortur.net/collections/optional-parts/products/ortur-yrr2-0
How thick and what type of ply are you using?
This was mounted on 13mm thick Baltic birch plywood.
I kind of want to see if your lazer will put your all's logo on your bars of soap?! And also on the wooden projects you sell on your website. Idk how you'd feel about either or both of those. But I'd like to see it. Just a thought my friend.
I'll have to sneak some scraps down to the shop and tinker with them. Not sure what will happen, honestly!
I'm in the process of making a wall mount where I can print it on the wall.
If it was not for the sensor you could use it mounted to the wall there.
Do you haver the grid file for sale?
Make cylindrical engraving
Shortly you won't even need the grid. It's often easier to align without it.
i've been using mine (The old model) for about 6 months. Getting better every day
Your right! It’s not center. Sorry OCD
Welcome Back
What is the acrylic shield around the head of the laser? The clear Orangish Acrylic?
It comes with the LM2 Pro laser for eye protection. Still advised to also wear protective eyewear.
@@diytexan5558 the reason why I was asking is I thought it might still need an enclosure but if it's got that protective shield that would work so this can be brought out in public if at a trade show or event thank you for answering the question
There is still considerable light spill-out on the back, so bear that in mind. :) I still wear my glasses and have anyone else do the same in my shop when it's in use.
What size laser did you get, the 40w or 80w?
It's advertised as a 20w laser, so I guess 20 watts? amzn.to/2Wan5qD
@@Samcraftcom 20W with an actual output of around 5.5W
Wooden pants 😆
GREAT VIDEO MAN, WHATS THE COST OF THIS LASER BURNER?
Link is below on previous video
Depending on where you buy from, $500 (amazon).
So what's your plan when you need to engrave on thick wood? You need to raise the frame for thick wood.
Yes, you would need to do that. If I run into that scenario It's just four screws to disconnect the laser from the base and raise it up.
Ok you can make a SamCraft token and let Angela hang it from her key chain. Or You could just make my logo for me haha
Lightburnologist😂
Just thinking out loud… if you secured it to the wall at say a 30 degree angle and drilled the crosshairs to take removable dowels that could then support the workpiece - you’d never need to remove the unit from the wall.
That'd be one way to do it, yeah!
Ooh I have an idea. You ever see those wooden cookie presses? I'd love to have one with our future homestead logo on it. But not sure if this will burn deep enough for that. Tell me what you think 🤔
Never seen that before... email me or message the Homestead on facebook!! :)
@@Samcraftcom what's your email address. I don't want to tell FB my homestead name 😂.
Samalogical pronouncements are important! well done fella
Since you are always saying you aren't an "ologest" you could make costars saying something like that. Like "I'm not a windowologest", and other funny things and then sale them
Just a boy and his toys!! Lol
LoL I put mine on the wall as well!! Mine is more of an art piece. I hated the ortur 2. It was way to slow for me. I bought a co2. I couldn't find anyone to buy my used laser.. So rather than let it collect dust in a box.. I now have my first piece of expensive wall art.
I'm trying to not tell myself I need a bigger laser... trying... Hahaha They're awesome!
Still have that used laser? I’m interested in this hobby but not sure I have lots of use for it. The version 2 of this is around $200 I think.
MORE.....screws Sam ?
I know every time you look at it ya gonna end up centering it lol TEST IF IT WORKS ON THE WALL 🤔
could you not use the laser mounted on the wall, i'm sure you could come up with a way to mount the materials vertically on the ply base
I guess you could do that, but it's not really practical for my uses. Having to secure the material each time would be annoying for me. I like this being a no-contact machine so things can literally just sit there. :) Big diff. from the CNC!
@@Samcraftcom you could angle it out from the wall a bit, at the bottom, and have a ledge for the piece being cut resting on it, just a thought
@@tdimccullough It will stress the steppers and lead to missed steps or failed motors without further modification. It can be done with some engineering, but the simple approach here is probably the perfect solution for him.
Could you cut out leather pieces on it?
I'm pretty sure you can...
