Sara Peña - Per Scholas Greater Boston Graduate

Sara’s educational and professional background was in music, with part-time work in sales on the side. She eventually began working at a music software company, which she says first piqued her interest in IT and the field of tech. Sara was working at a non-profit when the Covid pandemic hit and was forced to quit her job when business suffered due to the pandemic.
Sara was accepted into Per Scholas Greater Boston’s first Software Engineering cohort. The course was difficult for Sara, who had no tech background, but she found support in her classmates and professors, who helped her through the process and taught her the importance of teamwork - an invaluable skill in the field of IT. “[The cohort] became a tight-knit family,” Sara reflected. “That support system was super helpful and our instructor was incredibly encouraging…with their help, I made it through the program!”
