This interview is performed by Vert.run coach Francesco Puppi (who himself is a professional trail runner for Nike.)
Here's what Francesco has to say about this interview with Jim:
"Jim is one of the absolute GOATS of the sport, an athlete that should need no introduction. I’m lucky enough to be able to call Jim a friend, and I’ve shared with him some of the best racing moments of my career.
In his personal quest to win UTMB, and most importantly chasing the best version of himself in the process, Jim has moved to Beaufort, a small village in the french alps where he’s currently training and living. I’ve reached out to him to see how he’s doing, how his training has changed over the past few years, how some decisions and defining moments have changed the course of his career, what are some of the goals and objectives he wishes to achieve in 2023 and in future years."

Hey! Yeah for sure, plus it's got to be a cool adventure for him to be living and training in France. Amazing to see where running can take a person, literally. Have a good one and thanks for your kind words, glad you enjoyed the interview! :) --Kirsten from Vert

What an amazing interview. Jim stays so low key, it drives me nuts (as I want more content) but I love it also:). I can just imagine a race director a week before a race "WHAT, Jim Walmsley is in this race" LOLOL - I love his style. Great content, great attitude, I could listen to Jim talk for hours! Perhaps the best trail runner in the world and he goes on a 1.5 hour POD that has 1.75K subscribers. We could all learn a thing or two from Jim! - Side note. Totally agree with you though Jim, if 4th place is good enough to showboat and celebrate at UTMB it's good enough for them to invite that place back. Top 10 for sure. You got it this year bud!! Go get it.

Thanks for your words CP Runs! We were really honored to have Jim take the time to share about himself on our podcast. It's really thanks to our awesome Vert.run coach (and podcast host) Francesco Puppi, who is a friend of Jim's. Glad you enjoyed the episode and thanks for telling us you did! :) --Kirsten from Vert

Awesome to hear your interview Jim. I’m sure your Wife and you miss Flagstaff and Arizona in general. I’ll be running my 72nd ultra, the Whiskey Basin 60 K in Prescott. It’s a beautiful course and Aravaipa running does a great job hosting it.

Thank you for producing this content. The xc ski and skimo cross training effect are something I’ve been trying to learn more of this season. So many great athletes are well balanced in multiple disciplines. Look at Courtney Dauwalter. Former XC Ski Champ. Now a great trail runner. So thanks for creating this!!

Matthew, we totally agree! Skimo and XC skiing are just fantastic ways to stay in shape in the off season...and also, honestly, they're really great for even giving our brains a "running break" to do a different activity. (Also not sure if it's winter for you or not depending on which hemisphere you're in...but we have a *really* great new Skimo plan designed by Swiss mountain athlete Pascal Egli. Here it is: app.vert.run/chooseplan?plan=1671107656)
Thanks for your words, really glad to hear you enjoy what we work so hard to create! :) --Kirsten from Vert.run
