  • Talk’s Ian Collins is joined by head of crime and justice at the Policy Exchange David Spencer.
Police have been told to make fewer arrests because there are not enough spaces in prisons.
Chief constables are being advised to consider pausing ‘non-priority arrests’ and to suspend operations that might trigger a large numbers of arrests, until there is enough capacity in prisons throughout England and Wales.
It comes as a new scheme to allow offenders to be released 70 days early is due to start on Thursday.
David tells Ian that the measures are “absolutely shocking” and says it “was predictable” that prison space would run out.

Just deport all the foreign inmates that would free up massive amount of space!! Any victim of re-offenders should be able to sue the authorities 😡

This has been going on for a good couple of years now... letting rapists, Pedophiles and sexual predators out early or letting them go as there's no room... We are absolutely fluffed in a few years 😢

So drug dealers under an operation are free to carry on aswell as other crimes. True talk...no cap...why have we got a police force if they cant force or arrest anyone.

Prisons are full of people that..
A prison sentence doesn't work for. I've spent time within the system. Some crimes of course require a custodial sentence. But the vast majority of cots taken...those people need a tag, with conditions. A driving licence. An education. A sense of civic duty, community, spirituality, an understanding of the law, a complete ban from their mothers! And sport. The statistics on re offending prisoners - going back compared to ex prisoners who have 2 to 3 of those in place, underway or completed. Is night and day. It's not about being lenient. Making a prisoner undertake those things more often than not is a pain worse than death until they get along a bit. Sticking them in a building to continue bad behaviour and to be a drain on the taxpayer and society as a whole. Well. The latter seems to suit people. But it doesn't work.
