    Some have said that WWII was the spark the civil rights movement needed. When the soldiers came back from Europe, where they were treated like any other soldier by the people, it put the spotlight directly on the way they were being treated in their own country that they were now risking their lives for. In Europe they could go anywhere and never get a second glance because of their skin. The Europeans were appalled at the way the U.S treated them and even told Eisonhower they would not agree to segregation areas while they were in country.

      When they came back to America, they were treated like the second class citizens they were looked at before they left .The Civil Rights Movement did gain energy from these returning servicemen ,but it was average caucasian young citizens who were tired of the old way of doing things that turned the tide .Television as a new medium in most homes brought this inequality home , front and center. Americans could no longer ignore what was happening. It must be said ,because of much disinformation , The Civil rights movement wasn't successful just because we African Americans got tired of our inhuman treatment ,it was successful because many caucasians also refused to accept how we were treated and became allies !"

      @@Robert-bb9wiYou sir are 100% correct. I am one of those caucasians. I am 67 years old and I was born in the south Chattanooga Tn. I lived it as a child. I saw the colored and white water fountains the no bathroom for blacks I saw my friends from school after segregation come to the restaurant my family was eating and sneaking a wave and watching their Dad go to the back door of the restaurant and get their food and be told “ NOW GET!!” I did not understand as a child and as an old man I still do not understand. I made a vow to myself that I was going to fight racism some how so I decided to raise my children not to be. Thank you for acknowledging the fact that not all of us old boomers are bad. lol some of us have been in the fight beside you, and one day we will over come. @johnduncanjr186 Thank you for commenting on this subject .Let me add something that you intuitively know but rarely hear out loud : Slavery has never been an all-inclusive mindset . People have always objected to other human beings being enslaved. There are many kinds of slavery ,but I won't go into that . I'll just stick with America. All Americans were not ok with slavery . Many religious groups formed opposition parties to slavery . Congress wrestled with what to do if we ended slavery ,do we send them back to Africa? Establish a colony ?" Liberia was founded on this principle. The vast majority of those people opposed to slavery were caucasian Americans and the enslaved . It was a fight that spanned generations . If not for the Civil War, which was about states' rights ( the right to own other human beings ), who knows when African slaves would've been freed !" It's easy to distort history as an all-inclusive mindset ,but history is nuanced. whites and blacks lived side by side ,helped one another ,depended on one another long before slavery ended . We were freed because we had allies ,those allies were white skinned people just like today . The key I must stress is that color was not the issue that defines a person , its character !" Character decides what battles you fight ,what injustices you oppose , what kindness especially you extend !" In human history, it's always been about character !" Every skin folk is not your kin folk . If you look in only one direction for your enemy ,you only guarantee you'll be blindsided !" People of character build nations , people who only recognize color manipulate for status !""

      Wilson was quite progressive for his time (started the League of Nations, precursor to the United Nations, etc.), but was limited from a generally conservative society (including within the Democratic Party). Wilson's military segregation was more about trying to protect African-American soldiers from what otherwise would've been more harmful to them. Society and the military officer ranks were NOT very protective of African-Americans back then. The thought was that a stepping stone approach was needed (the essence of progressivism), moving from an all-white military, to one that included African-Americans but segregated, to eventually a more integrated military - removing the segregation. If Wilson had tried to integrate the military without segregation initially there would not only have been massive pushback and protests but also a lot of violence and death of those African-American soldiers.
      Nice try, trying to paint Woodrow Wilson and Democrats as racist segregationists when they were trying to be practical and pragmatic progressives.

      @@jimharringtonsr.2793 Apparently you don't understand how Congressional testimony works. When testifying before Congress you must answer the questions being asked by the Congressperson. The question does NOT allow for a broad opinion-laden answer for argueing your general case. That kind of open and free answer MAY be allowed - usually by the party that invited you to testify. But strictly speaking the testifying witness must answer the question asked and is limited to that question. If a Yes or No answer is asked, a Yes or No answer must be given. When witnesses EVADE answering the direct question they are NOT automatically allowed instead to take the floor and give a speech about what THEY want. The testimony must answer what the Congressperson wants answered. Congresspersons have limited time - a certain number of minutes allotted to them. It's a common ploy for a witness to try and give an evasive, long-winded answer to take up the Congressperson's limited time - to avoid further questioning. What you call being "impressed with herself" others see and praise her for not being taken advantage of - not being manipulated by witnesses invited by the opposite party (and are often trained by the opposing party in evasive, time-consuming tactics). Katie Porter is one Congressperson who is not easily manipulated and demands the straight answers she has the right and authority to ask and receive. This is why she (and others) ask the Chair to reclaim their time - time taken by verbose witnesses' evasive answering.

So if everyone had similar merit, or qualification., the chance are the group with the most people that applied would end up with the job, all the time, you can't built the country wealth up for all groups by allowing the largest group to get the best jobs all the time, you have to look at qualified people from other groups,

    • @HistoryPoliticsFiction
      @HistoryPoliticsFiction Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@Slim-ur7mw first that is a simplified picture of what actually happens. Second it doesn’t play out in the stats. For example Asian people on average do better than white people in both education and acquiring wealth. In a merit based system they would get the first crack. Next the ideology that pushes DEI and critical race theory is in itself racist. Instead of providing equal opportunity and sometimes picking someone from a lower economic status it assumes not only are all black people the same but all white people inherently can’t be good. My dad is black. While he grew up poor for a large chunk of his life things changed when my grandfather, his stepfather came along. My dad through intelligence and hard work improved his situation further. By the time I came along he was already pushing into middle class status. Putting all black people or any race into a neat little box doesn’t work well. The military should want the best individuals not because of race, gender or creed. No, they should want individuals who are exceptional. Equal outcomes are racist and irresponsible. Equal opportunity is possible and most of all you can make it fair.

    Thats odd. At the end of every USMC promotion selection message, it has a demographic breakdown of race and sex. Sounds like a shadow policy to me.

    The comparison of integration based on merit with DEI is disgusting, but it's their whole game: to characterize opposition to discrimination and racism as discrimination and racism.

    I have dropped my voluntary retirement request for Oct 2024 because the military has gone woke! Every freakin week or month you have training about Sexual Assaults, equality, trans, inclusion. It has become so politicized.

    Once again……these politicians constantly cut off witnesses…especially when they start hearing a response they disagree with

      So they should just let the witness ramble on without ever actually answering the question asked? Would that be acceptable in a job interview, at your workplace, or in a courtroom? No? So why should it be acceptable in a congressional hearing?

    • @icemachine79

      Because these "witnesses" won't answer the question, and they won't answer the question because they know it wrecks their false narrative.
