  • In this episode from Driving With Gloves Cor has the opportunity to drive the spectacular Iso Rivolta Lele. This numbers matching car is completely restored after originals specs. It has a Ford V8 engine and a ZF 5 speed gearbox. Nowadays every idiot can drive a supercar, but in a supercar from the 1970?s you have to learn how the car is working. Although a luxury GT car, it does not come with powersteering. So there is no need to go to the gym to train your arms. Just driving will do the job.
    This car is for sale. Interested? drivingwithgloves@gmail.com

    Was on Bainbridge Island about 22-23 years ago. Older guy was puttering around in his yard, garage open. He saw me looking at the car in the garage, and I asked "Is that a Rivolta?" By his facial expression, he was surprised anybody knew what it was. Shot back, "Matches the Griffo over here..." Sure enough, there was a Griffo tucked over in the corner. Ended up talking to him for about a half hour- very interesting, cool man

      Great story. They are also rare over here. After filming this episode 2 weeks ago, a neighbour who watched it, asked me if it is a Ford? Well he was at least right about the engine 😉

    I saw one of these in Long Beach, CA, a few years ago, pulling out of a parking lot. I told my dad, hey, an Iso Rivolta! He had never even heard of the make, and he looked at me, very impressed. My dad since passed away, but the moment is etched in my mind.

    What a wonderful review of a rare and amazing automobile. My late Father had an early 1970’s model, silver exterior with blue leather interior. His was, at the time, one of less than about six in the U.S. with the 351ci Cleveland, and the only one at that time here that was mated to the 5-speed ZF transmission. He had several exotics back then and as an adult I have always wanted one of his old cars. I did locate what I believe was his in Washington State around 2000, and it was for sale, but I didn’t move quickly enough and have since lost track of it. (He owned it in Ft Lauderdale, Florida in the mid-70’s). Maybe one day. Again, thank you for this great video. Drive safe!

      Thank you for sharing your story. As your late father's Lele, this one has also a 5 speed ZF gearbox. By the way the owner of this car is selling it. On the other hand it is in Switzerland, which is not around the corner for you. And I asume that the prices for these cars are higher here. But if you are interested I could bring you together with owner.

      Driving with Gloves Thank you. I am going to try and track Dad’s down if I can, although this is a beautiful example of the Lele and the color combination is simply stunning. What are they going for in Switzerland? Pinning a price down here is hard as they are so rare and not many people understand the importance of this automobile. Stay in touch!

    I would love to see someday a review of a Monica V8, quite possible the first 4-door coupé, the creation of the french industrialist Jean Tastevin, also named after his wife, Monique. After Facel Vega, it was the swan song of the French luxury car industry.

      I would love to do a review about the Monica 560 V8. But I can't promise it, because I always have to find the cars first. And then someone must be willing to lend me the car. After all it is still a one man show on a very low budget, since I do not earn any money with it.

    • @DrivingwithGloves
      @DrivingwithGloves  Před 4 lety +1

      First my apologies if the camera setting was not what you had expected. To my defense, I filmed everything alone and it was very cold that day. That made the car also hard to handle on summer tires by minus °C.
      About the engine: Ford 351 Cleveland V8 5736 cc. That was the biggest engine used. Before 1972 a Chevrolet 327 V8 was used.
