Just to add some details on a key difference between these two lights. The run times are longer on the HM65R because the outputs are regulated down much more on this light. If you look at the burn time graphs for each of the respected lights, the HM65R dims much more than on the HM65R-T. As a trail runner I want as much light for as long as possible. There is a huge difference running these lights at the 400 Lumens settings, the HM65R-T runs at a brighter constant output vs the dimmer regulated output on the HM65R.
At the 400 Lumens setting (spot or flood)
The HM65R-T will give you a constant output of ~ 250 Lumens when it is regulated down, for that 12 hours of burn time.
The HM65R will give you a constant output ~ 100 Lumens when it is regulated down, to get that 22 hours of burn time.
HM65R-T = Brighter Constant Output, but shorter burn times
HM65R = Dimmer Regulated Output, but longer burn times
So for Trail Runners the HM65R-T is a much better option for an all night adventure, the light output will be more constant and brighter for the entire night which will allow you to see the trail terrain better while running. This is what a runner needs.

THANK YOU!!! I've been racking my brain thinking about how can an older light last longer on the highest setting than something New, even the even newer headlights from fenix that's running 21700 batteries. Been watching reviews and non of them explained what you just did
Thank you scott, genuinely helpful comment. I am getting more into eskating, especially at night. Im skating at an average of 25mph from between 5-20 miles, in paved trail roads, bike paths, and streets when I have to. Is this the headlamp you’d recommend for that purpose? It’s not a popular sport at all but I need a better headlamp, I get blinded anytime a car is coming towards me and I can only see for abt 10 ft when that isn’t happening.
@@learninglife319 i have the HM65R-t, it is extremely bright, love it.
I have both R and R-T. I use the R for camping and general use. The R-T is great for when you need it to stay bright day like trail running or hunting tracking blood trail or emergency use where they need the light to stay bright and not step down to much. Although I use the original 65r over the R-T because it has lower levels. I’d buy this headlamp for what you intend to use it for. Camping even just hiking or working where you’ll use it for long hours buy the 65R. If you only use the headlamp 1-2 hours at a time on the higher output levels the R-T is better. It won’t step down as much as the R. Confusing but I hope that helps so

Thanks for this comment! I was frustrated I bought the "old" version when I saw that they had a R-T version out. I only use mine for camping. So I guess I can keep the older version since I don't intend on running with it at all.

I like this Headlamp, for me it is well designed but I haven't bought it yet due to the not constant brightness.
The new version looks better but it is not a "Full" stabilization yet
Some special versions (Finnish and English) have a higher High level (700 lm for Finland) or two High levels (400 and 600 lm for UK)
I wish the standard version also had these options.
I hope for an evolution of the model, the idea of two Leds is good and I really like the aesthetics of HM65.

Yes, the HM65R can be mounted to a helmet of hard hat with the Fenix ALG-03.

I was looking at the specs today and chose the 65r, I prefer the longer run time over the increase in output.....also don't really care for the ratcheting headband just looks like a solution for an imaginary problem.....if for whatever reason the ratchet fails.....good luck keeping the light on your head.....KISS is always a good rule to follow when out in the woods....
I would like to keep a spare 18650 battery handy…..will it accept one in button top or can you only use an 18650 battery from Fenix? Will the unit recharge replacement 18650 batteries and if so which kind ?Thanks
We recommend using Samsung, Tenergy, Panasonic, Rayovac, Energizer, or our Fenix batteries in Fenix lights. Brands like Titanium, EBL, Nuon, UltraFire, and Duracell are not fully compatible with most Fenix lights. Button tops only, no flat tops
I purchased the hm65r-t based on your review. I have an ultramarathon coming up. I wondered if you purchased an additional battery? The torch comes with a Fenix ARB-L18-3500 battery but it states that it runs off 2 x CR123 batteries. For multi day marathons/hikes, do you recommend I invest in another official Fenix ARB-L18-3500 battery or will the run time be the same if I just use regular Duracel CR123 batteries?
Using Cr123 batteries will greatly reduce the runtime. We recommend using 18650 batteries for longer runtimes. If you would like to purchase another battery, you can use code CZcams20 for 20% off

Could you compare all hm65r models including superraptor 1 + 2?
The two in this video are the only 2 that are available in the US. The SuperRaptor is a European exclusive.

Reading Candlepowerforums it seems that the myth of red light is exaggerated, it is said that it helps night vision but this is true for all colors of light as long as we are sub-lumens (power less than one lumens)
Some say that the red light attracts insects to a lesser extent, I don't know if this is true, reading the comments of many Russian headlamp users here on yotube (fishermen) they say that you are bitten by mosquitoes anyway, and that they are attracted not so much from the light but from the smell of the human body.
Yeah you're probably right, I actually rarely use my red light,still I just like it, when hiking on snow or using it as a back light wehen on the bike :)
Hi I have just ordered a hm65r it has a 3500 mah battery do you know if you can put the fenix 5000 mah battery in the hm65r. Thank you.
The 5000 is a 21700 size battery where the 3500 is an 18650 size of battery.
I've had 2 x hm65r fail in under 1 year. 1 lasted less than 2 weeks the others now failed after regular use since June 22. Disappointed at the quality. For the cost €95 should be more reliable
