  • Today on 11/16/2022 at around 11:30am the Jamestown Fire Department arrived on the scene of the old/abandoned Crawford Furniture Factory because of a fire. It was fully engulfed in flames and they have spent hours working on putting it out. Fire departments from all over the local area including Falconer & Celoron have joined to help put out the flames. When we saw this online as breaking news we had to check it out for ourselves. We love Jamestown and actually enjoy the history of these old buildings so it's sad to hear about what happened today. You could see the dark clouds of smoke filling the air from miles away. It's located on Allen St. in Jamestown where there happen to be several factories that are still in business and operate today. At this time we're not sure how the fire started but I'm sure we'll know more as time goes on. We also don't know if there was anyone in the building at the time so we're hoping this ends up with no fatalities. This was frightening having it happen so close to home & near so many businesses. Thanks to all of the firefighters ,police officers, medical workers & more that are involved in this situation.
Crawford Furniture closed its doors in late December 2012. It has been permanently closed for almost 10 years now. The company was around for 128 years producing solid wood furniture. When they shut down they laid off 84 employees. This was one of Jamestown's most booming businesses in the city for so many years.

My heart breaks. Jamestown used to be my home. So many factories and businesses have gone up in flames.
    Thank you for this video

In the early 1960s, there was an abaondoned warehouse that caught fire just to the west of this one. Another abandonded warehoiuse between Washington St bridge and Main St that went up in flames. Many people watched the fire from the bridge. There are a lot of empty warehouses and factories. About 13,000 people left J-town since 1960 as the factories closed and jobs were lost. And it's going to get worse.
