    We're pouring and finishing a 28' x 24' garage floor in Freeport, Me today. Freeport, Me is home to the famous L. L. Bean Company, we're about 1 mile from the store.
    This is a pretty typical day for us getting the job done. Sometimes we can set up the job in advance and sometimes we have to do it the morning of the pour. Either way, we make it happen to keep everyone happy! This is a pretty easy pour for us and the type of concrete garage floor we do a lot throughout the year.

    I can see that warning on the chute mattering on low slump pours when they just about fill the chute to the brim.

    Good revovery on that second truck lagging. I'm however disappointed I didn't catch why there's no reinforcement in the pour. No doubt there was a good reason. ❤

      They used that Fiber stuff. I don't care what they say, there is no way that fiber stuff will do a better job than rebar.

      We used fiber, that is what was spec'd on the job. I've never said it does a better job than rebar. It has a different purpose than rebar.

    Mike You mention how far the concrete trucks have to travel to get to the job on some jobs. Do the concrete companies charge you for distances over and certain distance ? The
    BTW, I liked seeing your truck tool organization and your pov as you were getting ready for the pour. Don't think I've seen on as neatly kept.

    • @MikeDayConcrete

      They do charge a little extra for jobs over 30 minutes away.

    11.5 yards. That’s about half of what we poured in the 70’s! Yeah 22+ was the pour. 5 inch slump. We called them High Ranch house or split ranch. When you entered, you went up half a flight to the living room, or down to the basement. Most people used the basement to make a small apartment for income, or mother-daughter thing. With extras, ( 8 by ten patio), brick front, fireplace. Cost: $69,000!! Rockland county, southern NY

    So you must be in colder climates and that is why you do foam boards? How thick are the foam boards and do you use rebar at all!! So interested!

    • @gabrieljosue2451
      @gabrieljosue2451 Před rokem

      Fiber additives replace de need for rebar, lower the cost and man hours yet result in a stranger concrete with less likelihood to cracks, this is because the reinforcement is not only horizontal and vertical but in every direction. It also adds durability because the reinforcement doesn’t rust.

    • @MikeDayConcrete
      @MikeDayConcrete  Před rokem

      Yes, we're in Maine. 2" styrofoam helps for frost protection. We use rebar if it's spec'd on the job.

    What are you putting in the concrete that makes it so easy to move with the rakes

  • @Ran-dom1

    Hey mike what do you think about fibre reinforcement vs metal wire and or rebar?

    • @MikeDayConcrete
      @MikeDayConcrete  Před rokem

      Fiber is good, we use it in all our floors. For extra reinforcement add some wire or rebar. The key is really the sub-base and compaction.

  • @willfixthingsfordonuts

    Surprised you didn't use the power-screed Mike? You just wanted the extra workout this morning?

      4 to 5 inches is normal for a garage pour around here.
