The Unholy follows Alice, a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate. When terrifying events begin to happen all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister. The Unholy is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Evan Spiliotopoulos, written for the screen and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos, and is based upon James Herbert’s best-selling book Shrine.

Just watched it today, I thought it'll be another shitty horror movie that isn't scary but this one is GOOD! The jumpscares are actually scary and the storyline is actually really good. People who didn't like this movie probably never liked the concept. If you're planning to watching it, the movie is worth your time. Movie rating 10/10.

Ok so now that I've seen the movie, here's what you need to know. The concept and plot is original and unique and it has the makings of a great movie within the spiritual horror genre. However, the acting and direction are abhorrent. Overall, I'm glad I watched it, but it could have been so much better with a bit more effort on the part of the actors and director. JDM was especially disappointing because I know he can do better than this. Again, it's worth a watch, but it falls short of it's potential.
ETA: Know also that I have high standards. The average viewer may not agree.

Saw this movie while cooking dinner for my dad and I nearly burned dinner. This movie was awesome., I could not stop watching it. The trailer could have been a minute shorter, but it does not spoil as much of the movie as it seems. It's actually lacking a lot of context which make the scenes better. It only really spoils as much as the title does. That being said I would have probably gone with a different title.

Watched this last night, it was fairly shit. The demon is not scary in any way and seems dull as an enemy. I really liked the feel of the film though and nothing wrong with the cast. More needed to happen. It seemed like they were going with scary and got nothing more than thriller if that.

This movie trailer has to be one of the worst edits of all time. Why would you literally show the demon/evil spirit some many times??? Literally gives away any suspense. Could have hinted at it throughout the second half of the trailer and seen it briefly at the very end. The movie looked really good.

I see your point and it could make or break the trailer but IT actually showed Pennywise and The Conjuring showed Valak many times through actual scenes and through visions/nightmares of the protagonists. So I dont see anything wrong with that.

While this demon seems like a background presence that gets revealed more and more throughout the movie and appears much later, yet it's revealed here unclimactically and like a B-movie monster. So he's got a point.
The concept looks interesting and thanks to the trailer I feel like I’ve seen the entire movie now.

well, I thought it was a great movie with a nod to classic horror movies.
It was exactly what I expected and I wish it had lasted longer with a few extra special effects because they are a bit thin now.
I give this movie an 8 out of 10 stars.
We just watched last night and please guys don't watch the trailer or just peek on few seconds. I just read the comments how good this movie and I really thank them for saying it.. I really love this movie! It's not the usual horror or religious/ suspense thriller movie. There's a good plot of the story, and how this movie shows you what evil does and choosing where to place your faith. You won't regret watching it if youre not a fan of common Horror movies with common plots and predicted ways to scare.

This movie wasn't really as bad as I expected it to be except the ending. It's like drably filmed just to "end" the story. If it had exciting plots, this could've been really good. One thing I liked about it, it was not overly done. I mean how the faith and horror were presented.
True I think playing the "take me to church" background in the calmer scenes would add for depth.

End was actually meaningful. It showed that the lead actor even after knowing that it's not the God that does the miracles asks for a miracle to happen. Thereby putting the faith in the devil and giving it a new life. That's why angel Mary is crying in the last frame.
Love the fact this film stays true to James Herbert's book.....plus papa John off Supernatural.... Jeffrey Dean Morgan ...come at is and bite.....nom nom ..

For the past decades, there had been stories about statue of Mary shedding blood tears in Philippines, south korea, Mexico etc. Some were deceived, while many perceive it as the demon's trick. This girl in the movie reminds me of Julia Kim, a south korean lady who proclaimed visit from God and perform miracles which was very controversial.
Jesus said "this evil and adulterous generation wants to see signs and miracles".
I guess John Winchester’s putting the settle back on now that his boys retired.

@@acherry4861 Read in your Bible Luke1:39-45. The beginning of the prayer is scripture. The last part is where we ask Jesus’ Mother to pray for us. No different than me asking u to pray for me. We do not worship Mary. We do give her the respect she deserves. I am sure that Jesus would not like the fact that you’re so hostile towards his mother but what do I know 🤷🏼♀️ How would you feel if people bashed your mom?

It was a nice horror movie 🎥 from my point of view I actually enjoy it .There is a story and also some jumpscare.I highly recommend it.
I'm not someone who is bothered by trailers giving things away so I'm definitely going to watch! Lol I am the person who will beg someone to tell me what's going to happen in a movie. Plus without giving away a little something this movie would of looked boring. The end of the trailer is what made me want to watch it.

Although, some informations were wrong about the three shepherds : 2/3 died but not the same year the “miracle” happened. Francisco died on April 1919 and Jacinta February 1920, both because of the influenza pandemic.
