Its was based on cable car accident in 1999 in China . 14 people died including children and parents. Han Hon wrote this song and adapted one child ! How the child feeling facing this accident holding parents hands but loosing them and waiting for daybreak how to survive further to live alone on this world.

This song is based on a tragic true story of a child that became an orphan. The little child witnessed when parents sacrificed themselves to save him. Parents did not survive.
I love that you can feel the despair, the anguish, the sadness in Dimash voice.
He is a true storyteller. I always cry when listening to this song. 😥

I loooove this performance, I love everything about it, the soft beginning and then this big emotional explosion where he jumps on his knees and then the whispered ending and that hand straightened in front of him as if he was imagining the parents he was singing to, so beautiful and such a moving song, I love it, he made it really exceptional

Daybreak is such a sad song and Dimash completely nails it perfectly the whole performance! Bastau concert was Dimash his first concert. Red lights because watching loosing parents in front of a child

This song is amazing! Even without knowing the lyrics, you can feel the life and death of what he's trying to communicate (watching his parents die as he waits to be rescued). Not sure what the theory is on what red lights are used to signify on stage?? But I believe that they fit the urgency. I never realized how very sick Dimash was for the Singer performance of this song until I saw this one. Highly recommend that you watch the video on Gloria Wu's channel to get the back story, lyrics and the story behind Dimash's performance on Singer then watch this one again. It will give you a whole new appreciation.

Hi dr. Thanks for good analysis. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Daybreak is an emotional song that dimash performed it perfectly. He is always in character. But while performing this special song I can feel how much he is in it. In the show "Singer" he lost his voice during that episode. Here we can see how he could really perform this song.

Dr. Marc, for me what absolutely drives this performance is the text. Without the context of what the song is about, and how the lyrics tell the story, it's still a vocal tour-de-force, but one that is delivered in service to the text. It's the same with the lighting, staging and instrumentation in this performance---all of them serving the text.

I have enjoyed your reactions since I saw you with Sam. The one thing I have really been noticing watching Dimash videos is how many people are not lost to his multiple languages. I mean I never listened to anything but English songs unless it happened to be a Christmas song or a specialized song in some way until I found Dimash in The Singer 2017 and since then I listen to others. I love that sometimes Dimash will encourage his audience to sing his songs in whichever language he is singing and like so many fans I too learned phonetically to sing along with him. I have been watching Korean tv series and movies for 7 or more years and never got into their music until Dimash made me start listening to voices before words. Now I can differentiate quite a few languages. It even took me a couple listenings to realize in Singer 2017 that Dimash would start a song in one language and switch to another. He sings an Italian song in English but in the same rhythm as if it were in Italian. He brings many things to the table that are new to me and I am 55 years old. I cannot imagine what he will do next. I know some people do not like that he may have an operatic sound one minute and pop the next or folk and pop. I just enjoy the newness of it all and if someone has done this before it never caught on in my world like it has through Dimash. He has a beautiful voice. Do me a favor? Don't do too much Dimash too fast. There is only so much "gee that was good" before you run out of things to say. I think you would get bored very quickly if you did it over and over. Listening to him can be appreciated anytime at all but reacting to him to his dears you might find gets on your nerves even if you like his singing. Hearing the same person over and over would get old. Keep doing all sorts of singers and all kinds of music to keep yourself fresh and your viewers minds expanding. I love Dimash and listen to him everyday but I don't have to tell everyone about him everyday. It would become old. I would dread the time the music stopped and I would have to find new and exciting ways to say he was wonderful. Listening to him is relaxing and makes me happy, I would wish that for all his reactors!

Absolutely on your side. This year, I had been watching Dimash's song everyday since I learned how to appreciate his song by Dr. Reynolds react videos. Not knowing the lyrics(actually, I am trying to know the lyrics now), I found it is very new, exciting, captivation, engaging to listen Dimash's each song. And I guess Marc felt the same way. What impress me most are his native talents, devotion to performance, courage on stage and his love for the fans. Truly speaking, all I wish is he can go ahead to advocate the peace in the world, then he will become a angel to me.

Hi Dr Marc, this is one of the Songs, I cannot hear without tearing up. It is not just the heartbreaking backstory, no, it is the way Dimash is able to Transport this Drama. I believe him every word to 100% and that he feels! the sorrow und hopelessness. He once said, that he was 10 years old, Hearing this song the first time and realising what it is about. His Body was trembeling and he was deeply moved by the song. At "The Singer "he said: We should be Content to have Family arround, it is the most important Thing in the world. To be honest, who at the age of 40 and older (maybe even earlier)did not experience the hurt of loosing somebody dear to our hearts. If it is you mother, father, grandma, boyfriend, you Name it. Crucial is, that it was a Person you deeply loved. This song brings me to this place. Every.Single. Time. He feels, what we feel. Maybe even more...... 1 year after this Performance a good friend of his, Denis Ten (ice scater, who danced to his music at competitions)was murdered. Long Story short, he is not only a phenomenal Singer etc. he is also a very sensitive human being and I have the Feeling, I can connect with him on nearly spiritual way.

After almost 3, years this song still breaks my heart 💔 everytime I hear it. I always suggest that when receiving a request/link for a reaction to this performance, that the REASON behind the song be researched before reacting!!!!!

Everything about this performance is truly awesome. You need to read the story the song is based on and switch the subtitles on. Or watch Gloria Wu's video that incluses the back story

Очень советовала бы нашим певцам, музыкальным критикам прислушиваться к комментариям д-ра Рейнольдса. Он отличный аналитик вокала, и у него есть чему поучиться.

Lol, learning from Dimash is not the same as singing like him.
That ascending scale he does before leaping onto his knees is a really extraordinary moment, and I can't think I've ever heard anything quite like it. One can point out the things that enable it, but it's more than the sum of its parts.

Hello from China! This is a Chinese song,This song tells a story of an orphan:
A cable car at a scenic spot in Guizhou Province crashed in 1999, at that moment a couple used their hands hold up their two and a half years old child, so he was saved, but his parents died. Later, Han Hong (also the composer)adopted that child. So this song is about this orphan, the great parental love struck her because she also longed for love in her childhood, and Han also sees her own childhood in his.
    Here are the lyrics:
"During autumn, the breezes were so sentimental
It reminded me of their helpless eyes
Just at that place with the beautiful scenery
I heard a loud noise echo in the valley
That was the autumn I couldn't see the face of my dad again
He used his both shoulders hold up the starting point of my rebirth
Tears cover my eyes in the night
Don't you go away, don't hurt yourself
I saw mom and dad walk away, just like that
Leave me alone in this strange world
I wondered whether any dangers in my future
I wanted to hold tight at his hands
Mom told me that we still had hope
I saw the sun rise and mom smile. The day breaks.

This is a night, a starry night
I saw my mom in the dream
I need to be strong being alone in this world
Don't you go away, don't hurt yourself
I saw mom and dad walk away, just like that
Leave me alone in this strange world
I wanted to build a beautiful garden for him
I wanted to hold tight at his hands
Mom told me that we still had hope

Your reactions are really interesting perspectives. I like your analysis. Be interested in your reactions to Hua Chenyu, on any of these songs. Nunchucks, Dad I'm home, Child, Dear Friend, Wayfarer, duet with Su Shiding, (2 of them) Bullfighting, just to name a few.
