  • Spark plug change on 2018 Mazda6 2.5L Turbo (Grand Touring Reserve). This should be the same on all 2018+ Mazda6 with the turbo, and a number of other models with the Turbo ('19+ CX-5, '16+ CX-9, perhaps others).
Mazda recommends changing plugs on the turbo engine every 40k miles. I did these at 52k and they are definitely worn. I will be following the 40k recommendation hereafter.
You will need a 9/16" spark plug socket, rather than the typical 5/8" spark plug socket. Also recommend an 8mm box wrench, 8 & 10mm ratchets, silver anti-seize, and OE spec spark plugs.
Generally here, you will want to remove some bolts to offer some play to the bracket and plumbing which sits over the coil packs. This will allow access to the coil pack bolts. Then removing the coil packs and removing/inserting the spark plugs are pretty standard. Some videos recommend removing a hose to make it easy to get to the 4th cylinder's pack and plug, but I didn't find this necessary and the time & risk of detaching/reattaching the hose seems greater than the slight difficulty it creates in removing the last coil and plug.
