I've lived in the PH for 3 years, and my brother has lived here 8 years. I retired from the city at 53, and he retired from the military in his late 40s. In my experience, if you and your Filipina are spending more than $100 a day, you're wasting cash. But to each their own.

Every coin has two sides. Having lived in the PI for over 16 years, although up in the mountains, not the seaside. Built my dream house and living well spending a third or less than your figure. Keep it up so as to discourage newbies from moving here.

my wife and I retired here 9 years ago built our retirement home, so no mortgage. Just HOA dues. We live pretty damned comfortably for around $20,000 a year, US. Includes two household helpers, keeping up our car, and it gets a bit more expensive when we go to Manila for business or pleasure, etc. We also manage to travel overseas (mostly here in SEAsia) for beyond that amount--we like to visit Chiang Mai in Thailand for a few weeks each year. Our income is actually above $20k (closer to the figure you suggest in your video title) but we're fine at living on half that...less.

$4000 a month on living expenses for the PH is a serious waste of cash. Sounds more like Bali to me. If you think thats what you need to live a quality life in the Philippines, then either you are in a very isolated bubble, or someone is ripping you off. Just some advice my friend.

What are you talking about OP. Places such as Bali, Vietnam, and Thailand have a better infrastructure and standard of living and for a lower cost than the PH. Things have changed. You should actually go and travel and live in SE Asia.

Agree, what this 4K a month? Dude says 4000 a month. Claims that's the minimum. I spend less than that here in states with a nearly paid off mortgage new truck, NFL season tickets. big savings account and a nice 4O1K I have zero dept (just a mortgage) and my annually 45000 income covers all my US bills while adding to my 4O1K and savings. If I do that here in the states, I can do that anywhere. Have this dude show his detailed budget breakdown.

I also put away more than $20,000/mo. into savings and investments.
PH isn't cheap like Bali or Vietnam.

I stayed at a high end resort in Maribago earlier this year and it was $170 USD / night. If you want absolute top end places and restaurants then its very easy to spend $4,000 / month. However, I also found some small friendly resorts for $40 / $50 night on the beach but they were basic setups and not in high end areas. For my lifestyle I could easily survive on about $2,000 to $2,500 / month. However, I also need about $20,000 to $30,000 startup costs to buy a small car, scooter and other necessities. One thing I do agree that its more expensive than a lot of these bloggers indicate unless you plan to just stay in a 1 bedroom tiny apartment and never do anything.

I agree with you, young brother. To live a good quality life in the Philippines and still be able to travel and stay at some nice resorts once in a while. You do need a good monthly income. But if you are a cheap Charley who wants to exist only in the Philippines on a small budget and wants to live, eat like the locals. That's not a good thing. Better off staying in your home country. With this high end resort costing close to a $1000 USD a day...only a few would visit it that had money to burn. I have lived here in Palawan for over 12 years and never heard such nonsense . Living here is much less inexpensive than the numbers you are quoting. Visiting is one thing but living here is another. You can live a great life here on way less than you're so called "beer budget". Don't say things as fact that you no nothing about.

Everyone's living standards are different. Unfortunately if your on a beer 🍺 budget or a cheap Charlie you have no choice but to be a cheaper. I recommend if you don't have the funds go back to your country and be a dependent to your government. Don't come to the Philippines and be a looser.
