- In February 2021 I solo hiked the Freycinet Circuit in Tasmania over three days. The trail is ~36km in distance and is one of the best hikes that I've done to date. It's got everything from pristine beach hiking to clambering atop of boulders for unreal views.
On the first night I camped at Wineglass Bay Camp Site and on the second I stayed at Cook's Beach Camp Site.
See the exact path I took;

Great work again, Josh! Loved this one, too. Tasmania really is special, isn't it? That view from the top down over Wineglass Bay was amazing. And, as always, your framing, grading and editing was superb. Keep 'em coming, mate!
Cheers Mike! It’s fast becoming one of my favourite places to visit - The more time I spend in Tassie the more I want to head back there 😂
Great video.when you say that's a wrap...... show a few stills so oldies like be can have time to give it a like. I get so enthralled with the video I forget till the end. Thanks for all your hard work editing
Thank you, this was very helpful.. loved the camera shot through the tree hollow .
Thanks for sharing Josh. Freycinet was my very first overnight hike many years ago and still looks as beautiful as I remember.
You picked a good one as your first overnight hike! Absolutely stunning place
Love the attention to detail in this video. Really well done!
Cheers!
Awesome work Josh. Tassie is such a wonderfull place. Look forward to your next one!
Thanks mate!
Great video Josh! Really grateful for the effort you go to. This is so well produced! You certainly inspire me to get out on the trail more often than I would otherwise. 😊
Well done josh - very inspirational videos. Congrats with your love for life. You have expanded my list of adventures……. Cheers to you
Beautiful!
I really like to watch your solo trek before I go to bed, it's awesome mate!!!
Love all your vids mate, they keep getting better and better and more professional.
Appreciate it!
I only spent a day at Freycinet and your video makes me want to go back... loved the beach camping
Such a beautiful place
beautiful work as always, thanks :)
Thanks Jess!
Those are some beautiful mountains. The scenery out there is incredible.
Awesome camp spot too.
Great job on capturing the beauty of the area 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers Jason, one of the best spots I’ve camped I reckon!
Happy I found your channel, extremely high quality videos. thanks for including all the details and tips too. going to make my way through all the ones here in WA and then tackle the outer-state ones
Cheers Christian, enjoy it! Plenty of stunning trails to choose from that’s for sure
Thanks Josh. Beautiful hike and brilliant filming.
Thanks Angelica :)
Great video man! Very much enjoyed it! Love the short flower scenes.
Cheers Michael
You made it! How magical is Tasmania? The best place to hike. The spectacular scenery and wonderful nature :)
So bloody good! I always leave only wanting more
02:30: Okay, some banksias I wouldn't be able to name ... maybe silver banksia is one of them?
02:38: triggerplant I think
04:28: hmm, pink heath or less likely fuchsia
04:39: purple appleberry, a climber (one of the two)
04:41: ah yes, the moving spider-orchid, a plant that has mastered the art of predatory disguise!
07:01: hmm, I do know it but not well-enough to call it... I hereby name it 'spiny star'
07:06: if I didn't know the blindingly obvious one... then... I want to say ericaceae again, or leptospermum
07:14: aha, see, that hanging flower fooled that oblivious puny predator who just walked straight past!
07:26: one of those pink orchids we take ownership of
07:43: ooh shiny let me pick it up
09:45: it looks like the purple apple dumpling from before, but you see, it's actually a colony of plump purple people-eaters waiting in disguise! Too bad they were asleep, they had a meal right there
Was the peak viewpoint actually Mount Amos (rather than Freycinet)? I could just be being ignorant, as I am adept at demonstrating
But yes, a beautiful part of our hearty island
Sick
Mate I've watched 4 of your videos now in the only spots i havent been...walls...Freycinet...Frenchman's and the backpack items etc...oh and Cape pillar....kudos to you and the camera views like I'm about to upload a video about setting camera up then recording walking past it then go back pick it up end recording ...your doing the double length in walk mate kudos dude nice job .....some people don't have time for that but when it does I guess it looks amazing haha nice video mate love from Hobart
Haha thanks mate. I usually just try show the highlights off so it’s not that much extra walking, maybe a km or two at most.
You're becoming a staple watch for me, really relaxing edits and I like your style of calming music in the background as it doesn't drown out the environmental noises. Also, like your check-ins at the end of your vids.
Check out my music, feel free to use any of it if you want in a video, it's not as chill but there might be something.
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
Will do, cheers for the offer
How's the weather at Freycinet in Feb? Also is that Portuguese man of war???
Is it safe to swim at beaches in Freycinet?
Amazing video, I came from the Reddit post ;)
Awesome video! Is the water tank the only spot to fill up on the circuit?
Great work - I especially like your close and perspective shots - new Sub here!
Cheers Ralph!
I've gotta get to Tassie
Great video mate. What was the campground at Wineglass Bay campground like? Was there reliable water? Many spots for a tent?
It wasn’t overly big, but you could still fit a fair few people in there. I’d say there were about 4 or 5 clearings that would each hold 2 or 3 tents, sometimes more. There was one spot overlooking the beach but the rest were behind a treeline, unfortunately that one had been taken already by the time I arrived. There’s no water available but there is a dunny
Great video of this hike, Josh. Have put that one on my Tassie list. Beautiful captures of all the scenery there. I just got back from a Tassie trip a few days ago where a mate and I did Pine Valley and the side trips in there and then did Frenchmans Cap. Unbelievable landscapes. BTW, we’ve got a FB group for Aussie outdoor CZcams content creators which is a great little community. I’ll PM you with the details if you’d like to join that.
Thanks mate, would love to know the details. I hadn’t heard of the Pine Valley hut and side trip before! Now that’s another one I’ll have to find the time to do 😂
@@JoshCarrHikes, definitely one to add to the Tassie list. I'll send you a message on IG regarding the content creators group too.
Thanks for sharing the video. Nice work. We have been wanting to do this circuit but thought it had to be walked anti-clockwise. Is that correct?
First I’ve heard of it. I think most do it anti clockwise but I had others doing it clockwise with me at the same time
@@JoshCarrHikes I think it has something to do with not spreading some plant disease but I am not sure of the details.
Yeah okay, that makes sense I guess. It may be the case but I certainly wasn’t aware of it when I hiked the trail
Noticed the google maps insert😀 nice but a bit too quick. It looks like no one was there at the lookout point on top of the mountain. When l was there it was super packed:/
Got to leave improvements for next time 😉 There was a couple blokes up there with me at the start but I just hung around until they left. But yeah I was pretty fortunate. Could be an excuse for you to head back
Great work Josh.....you're nearly a Tasmanian now.....
Only issue.....
FRAY-SHIN-NAY, is local pronunciation, ;)
And, with Strive get the bolognese, massaman and chilli meals and an extra bag of beef to really flesh them out and make it a bloody awesome meal.
Ah I buggered that one up! I pronounced it that way to so many people and was never pulled up on it 😂 I’ll be sure to give them go, cheers!
@@JoshCarrHikes no probs, actually, most people pronounce Fray-SIN-nay, however, some lazy pronounce SHIN-nay
Next you'll be back to do: OT, South Coast, South West, Southern Ranges.
Great stuff, you've an amazing professional style to relay or portrait the tiny, indinstinct or indistinguidable and make it the proud star of your scenes - KEEP THAT UP
Strive: geeees that gnocci takes forever to cook through, but it's bloody delicious.
Hi Josh! Me and a couple of mates are coming to Tassie for 7 days in Feb. as the Overland track and three capes walk are already booked out, what would you best recommendation for a multi day hike? Would this be your first option after these two?
Yep this one is pretty bloody good. Frenchman’s Cap is my favourite but you’ll be puffin like a bullfrog. Walls of Jerusalem is hard to beat as well. Any of them really and you can’t go wrong they’re all rippers. Enjoy mate!
Edit: Just an after thought, you can do a fair bit of the three capes without booking. There’s tent platforms too that might be free - maybe worth looking into if you haven’t already?
@@JoshCarrHikes thanks mate! much appreciated! will have a look! I saw there's a free option for the TCW so thanks for that. given we have a total of 8 days would you say the three capes track and the Freycnet right after are a good choice?
@@mattiacozzi1729 Yeah I reckon that’s pretty good. You could probably squeeze in another, maybe the WOJ if you really wanted but depends how much you want to push it. All 3 of them could be done as overnighters
Why didn't you go to byrans beach too dude ?
Ran out of time. That was the original plan but spent way too long admiring that view atop of Mount Freycinet
Any mozzies on the beach there?
