- “I like to work with directors that have a real distinct sense for what they want out of their film,” says Erik Messerschmidt, ASC. This was certainly the case with director Michael Mann on the feature Ferrari. In this exclusive video, the cinematographer details the work that went into creating the movie’s visceral racing sequences, for which the crew employed rigid camera mounts on replica cars, shooting with the vehicles as they navigated real roads at extreme speeds. Messerschmidt also speaks to his choice of Panaspeed large-format spherical lenses for the project and reflects on his time as an intern at Panavision. “My story,” he shares, “is really about the success of mentorship and the importance of it.”

Greetings from the Miyagishima family! I learn all the time about the artwork and appreciation that goes into the movies. The right person will always fight for the right look. The right look can completely change the feel of the movie. Thanks again for everything and the work at Panavision is always appreciated!
We film with motion picture cameras by PANAVISION. One of the best in the business! 🎥
