I am in Canada. I am at home since last 4.5 months. Lost job due to Covid-19. I was also in tension on the day i came to know about lay off. After 1-2 weeks , Canada announced CERB support and it was major relief for me. I am single and living in small town so it was more than enough money for me and due to grace of God, i survived very comfortably. I have been applying to different jobs during lay off and at the end of 4 months i had a call back from previous company, one more permanent job offer and another interview. it is all mercy of God.
I can understand, you have family so it was very difficult time for you. due to grace of sai baba, you are in good position now.
What i realized from current situation, I would like to share here to help newcomers especially for single people.
    1) Trust on God and never forget to spend some time daily for prayers in your good time as well
    2) Don't think you will have luxurious life after coming to Canada. Situation is same everywhere just form of problem is different.
    3) Don't purchase brand new luxurious cars on finance. Try hard to manage with other alternatives and if you need a car, purchase used car after research at low cost. I have managed without car since last 2.5 years. If I need to travel long distance, I take rental car and that's all.
    4) don't spend money on unnecessary vacations, extra clothes and other hobbies. improve savings.
    5) avoid any purchase on finance ( exception, home- as per your financial capacity)
    6) always have back up plan in your home country. don't cut off and be in touch with your old colleagues in home country.
    7) don't be panic. if we are alive, that is everything. We can always manage with basic necessities. keep requirements as low as possible in good time as well.
    8) Plan your dreams but be flexible enough to co-ordinate with circumstances. Take up any job if situation demands.
    9) Canada is good but not everything. If situation demands, be mentally ready to go back to India. After all, your life matters not a place.

Thatswhy we came back in India. We only have one life and I am not ready to compromise everything. It’s true in Canada standard of living is very high compared to India but mental satisfaction is more in India even though we have less income here. We should know our priorities first

Aww... Di I am so sorry😔. I can totally relate with you. Although I work, my husband too got temporarily laid off in March for 3 months and I too bust out crying in fear that me may not be able to pay our rent ( which was the main thing for me being in Canada). Then he got further temporarily laid off again till October but, only last Tuesday he got the official letter that he is permanently laid off. I am praying that things will get better in the world and for him to get a job soon. Will surely pray for your family too (God is there Di and prayers can move mountains we need to have faith and believe. We will get through this together. Sending you loads of love from the East cost all the way to the West cost ❤❤❤

Hi Suchi, 1st of all thank you for sharing your current situation n your inner most thoughts. All l want to say is that this too will pass - you are not alone in this situation. There are lots of people out there who have lost their jobs across the world even in India but who choose not to talk about it. Having said that l would like to share with you that it is important that you move to a commercial city, remember that these are your working years and it is important that you n your husband earn well. Two salaries are always welcome so the burden does not fall on any one spouse. Both your children have grown up n are very understanding. Nanaimo is a beautiful place like Goa but commercially not viable. Try and shift to the suburbs in any of the commercial cities in Canada, each one is as beautiful as the other. However now that your husband has a job in another city it is time to move on and please do not look back. You enjoyed your time here......now time to move on...... that's life. But please do not loose heart you are a strong woman n a strength to your family. In India we have a sense of community n strong family bonds which is not there anywhere overseas however having said that, going back to your native place would not be a good idea at this stage. Struggles are everywhere..... you've chosen to settle abroad so please do not look back. The quality of life is far superior. Put your trust in HIM. He will guide you take/make the correct decisions. So far you have done well just wait for HIS guidance. This pandemic has been a life changer for many. Do not loose heart, Succhi, I do understand what you are going through and I do wish you and your beautiful family well. May our Lord bless you abundantly. Lots of love to you Succhi, your husband and your beautiful children. All will be well. Take care & stay well

Suchi just because you asked how we manage crisis here in Canada when our family is back home here is my advise from my own experience.
    1) be better half your husband by this I mean step up and share financial burden along with other shared responsibilities. CZcams is good source of of income but as you realized full time job would have been a different thing during this time so get one.
    2) upgrade your mother duties. Your kids are excellent though I would like to advise, make them independent. Let them realize you are their mother and roll model and do you. Don’t be the First Lady of your house. Success full family life is a joint venture. Let’s all cook the food and eat.
    3) the North American air has magic and it blows away the emotional thread from DNA. So don’t expect someone will give you their shoulder to cry. Even if someone listens your sad stories and calls you back eventually they will stop calling you when you will resume your as good as it was before. But real North American people are not that bad as described. Make some good friends. But again don’t expect someone will help you.
    4) nothing can be done for hire and fire rule. The best I can say is move to GTA. You get more opportunities here. Accept the bad weather but expensive though.
    5) even if you are fully prepared to fight world war there is always something which is beyond your capabilities like COVID.
Lastly, I might sound rude but the era of housewives is over now. Staying home cooking three fresh meals, dropping kids to school is not enough for being better half. As you know our husbands shares household work then why can’t wives share financial responsibilities? All the best for your new endeavour

I perfectly understand your situation and emotions. When my husband finished his MD, he got a job immediately but medical license to practice medicine in this state took 3 mnts to come in and he stayed home until then with no other income. At that time, we didn't have health insurance or much savings, we practically lived on credit card. Our kids were in elementary school, we didn't let them know or we didn't let our parents know our situation. We lived on $40/week grocery, nothing else. Once license came in, it got better but still took about a year to get life in to balance. It's tough to live in foreign country without any help, most people don't understand that. They think "living in America, have unlimited funds" kind of attitude, they still do!
Don't worry! Ignore bad comments, they don't live our lives. Good people who are honest and hard working always win. There will be ups and downs but you will survive. Glad he got a job. No matter where be ready to move, our focus is our children and their well being. Be positive and keep smiling. You are a strong lady like me, you all will be fine. Big hug to you! :)

You have your own house, you had enough funds to buy another property. You both are PR or citizens. Your children are studying for free. You don't have to worry about medical expenses, since all is free.I hope you also have hefty savings as well.
Then, what is the stress? Why you are facing anxiety? Nothing is permanent in this world. Your husband has been working for many years, if he doesn't have a job for few months that doesn't mean you both have be worried.
Be hopeful and happy. Stay blessed!

I like her videos very good for new immigrants to understand life in Canada but trying to be too smart to make money in Canada as a newcomer will make you cry please go slow and work hard both husband and wife should have jobs if your children are old enough and you feel free no diapers to change. Balance work home life. Everyone is away from family but our neighbors and friends become our family especially our coworkers. They will all run to help you when you need as we all came here as immigrants. Having a job for an educated woman in Canada gives you a different mindset. Good to realise the importance of that in hard financial time. If you are raising children you wait to invest at the right time. One house at a time will be better decision preferably rent your full basement separate entrance and live upstairs. Dont deprive children at tender age just to save. God Bless her family. She has a beautiful outlook on life.
