The Moody Blues song “The Voice” and Paul McCartney-Wings song “Silly Love Songs” trigger me in the same manner. They were the only 2 songs I ever listened to in the car with my Pawnee biological dad. In 1980 or 83 (I don’t recall which, I was real little) he took us to Evans Mountain, in Colorado. And those songs played on the radio back to back.

I think I was 12 when this came out and everything about it seemed so sophisticated: the name of the group, the name of the song, the juxtaposition of the vocal deliveries, the piano interlude.
As much as I love 80s music this was a soothing departure from the flamboyance of the 80s and a bridge to the 90s.

When In Rome started out as a British new wave trio consisting of vocalists Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann, and keyboardist Michael Floreale. Farrington and Mann had been members of a locally popular band called Beau Leisure when they decided to strike out on their own. This song was from their debut LP in 1988 and was an instant hit, reaching #11 on the Billboard Top 100. However, it turned out to be their only major hit. Farrington and Mann went on to other things, but they continued to stay in touch and write together.
Floreale revived the group under the name When In Rome II in the mid-2000s with vocalist John Ceravolo and drummer Chris Willett. In 2009, Farrington and Mann reformed as When In Rome UK with drummer Rob Juarez. The band name was inspired by the idiom "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," which encourages adapting to the culture of the places we visit. Farrington got the idea when he and Floreale, both Manchester natives, were visiting London. He recalled in a 2012 interview with the newspaper The Citizens' Voice (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania): "I distinctly remember dropping Mike off at a very unique food shop and saying something like, 'Let's try some of that,' followed by, 'When in Rome' - this was and still is my dad's favorite saying. This meant, of course, 'When in London, do as the Londoners do.' When Mike returned to the car, I said, 'How about When in Rome for the name of the band.' We both very enthusiastically agreed. When we both told Andrew, he gave the name his total blessing."

Man, these tunes, they're for the ages, my friend, no doubt about it. It's incredibly profound and just makes so much sense, right? And here's the thing, sometimes people mistakenly think everyone is the same, huh? But no one is identical, man. Each person is truly unique, buddy. Have you ever thought about it? Nobody is a carbon copy of another, and these guys were genuinely one-of-a-kind in a unique narrative, in a singular moment. So, my friend, you won't find another person exactly like them. Sure, someone might come close, but an exact match won't happen, right? Nobody can replicate these guys. They found success, continue to do so because they're genuinely unique, man. You can't replace something that's truly one-of-a-kind, right? It just doesn't exist. So, it's quite intriguing how sometimes people, by doing something everyone else does, think they're just like everyone else. They're not, man. Every individual is unique, you know? No one is a duplicate. It's pretty sad, isn't it? Forget about getting lost in the crowd because no one is just another face in the crowd. Each person is a distinctive creation of God, and when they pass away, that's it-no more of the same person. Unless God resurrects them, right? Otherwise, it's a done deal. The whole idea of a digital footprint, saying that, right? But there's no identical digital footprint, huh? It's quite fascinating.

There is a stunning version of this song with an equally stunning video by Superfruit, the side project of Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi from Pentatonix, that is well worth a watch.

This is right in line with so much Brit pop/dance music of the 80's. Takes be back to Ramstein Air Base in early 80's. This, and other similar tunes, have a distinct European flavor that a lot of yanks haven't experienced.
