    So I figured as a lions fan I should say something about the running back position.
    Gibbs and Monty are essentially both the starting running back for the offense. Those two are responsible for setting up certain schemes and plays on any drive. So the question on any given drive during a game is this, do you want strength, or speed.
    Basically the lions have a rotation system in RB, Ben Johnson will utilize both backs to set up plays for either the run or the pass, and for how talented both players are, they can get gains when they need to. It’s a run first, then pass offense and the run sets up everything when you factor in the offensive line and how good they are too.

    Tom, you'll like this story. That Packers/Broncos game you were talking about early in the stream? There was a place a few of us Packers fans congregated at in our town, the local Golf Course. The Manager of the place had gotten Sunday Ticket so we could watch Packers games, and along the way some of us pitched in and got him another TV for the place. Anyway, the day this game went on, the Packers were on the two TVs by the main bar, and the Vikings game was on the little crappy TV on the other side of the room. The Vikings fans had left and the Packers had the game well in hand, so I went to watch Vikings/Cardinals. It was in the middle of the Fourth Quarter and I watched what was a pretty sloppy game. Towards the end, the rest of the place heard me raising quite a ruckus and asked what was going on. I told them that the Vikings were about to blow a 14 point lead. When Poole caught that pass, I hit the floor on my back with my arms in the air signaling the winning TD. When it went to review one of the guys said something like, "You better hope that's a score, or you just looked stupid." and I replied, "It's not hte first time I've acted like an idiot in here. It's not even the first time this season ..."

    My Bears have a great team on paper. They should be good, but it's the Bears at the end of the day and you never know how a season is going to go. 2nd half of last season the team played really well against good opponents, ending the season at 7-10 after starting 0-4. But, Caleb is still a rookie. There's a lot of new players that might need some time to gel with one another. And I've seen this before lol... Bears teams that are supposed to be good end up being mid, at best. Then years you don't expect them to be good, like 2018, they are great. Only time will tell, but we can't be getting our hopes up too high for a team that has routinely let us down over the last 5 seasons.

      Fellow Bears guy here, great comment, you hit the nail on the head. I think da Bears ceiling this year is 9 or 10 wins and maybe sneaking into the playoffs as a 7 seed behind both Detroit and GB, and that really depends more on how the rest of the NFC shakes out than how good the Bears are. I think IF Caleb is as good as he has the potential to be and has good chemistry with DJ and Rome, and IF they continue to hit on early round picks the next couple offseasons with a high priority on OL/DL depth, and IF Shane Waldron is a competent OC and they don't fire him after one season, the Bears will be superbowl contenders in 2-3 years. But those are a lot of IFs, and we've been let down many times before. As for this year, if they could just beat the Packers for once I will be happy.

    There has been a ton of camp hype around Campbell, Arnold, Betts, Vaki, Wingo and Martin. Lions schedule is not bad to start out but it gets tough from Thanksgiving onward. The Bears are the new Same Old Lions. They have a decent GM and some good players, but their coaches seem to always fail to get players to develop, let alone scheme to their strengths, especially on offense. Until proven otherwise they are the SOB... There are some really good clips out there of Sewell putting Sweat on ice skates, Brian Balldinger showed one recently in a breakdown. The Bears think they got better with Sweat, but they really didn't, especially not at what he cost them to get. I can see the Bears splitting with the division, but I don't see them sweeping anyone, and they are likely to be swept by whoever wins the division (GB or DET). They will definitely lose some games they should have won as they continue to grow. Too much youth at too many key positions that is unproven. The only way they live up to the hype is if Caleb Williams comes in and dominates.

    • @chrisjarrett4208
      @chrisjarrett4208 Před 3 dny

      What are you talking about with Sweat? He cost a second round pick. That's it. And the defense completely turned around after he got there. His presence freed up other pass rushers, forced the QBs to rush passes and allowed the secondary to create turnovers. Is Sweat a completely dominant rusher? No. But he doesn't have to be. The O line is solid, the running backs are solid, the receivers are great... Caleb doesn't have to be a Messiah at quarterback for the Bears to be competitive. He just has to be good and consistent and not feel he has to take the game over.

    • @stevenbaffy7937
      @stevenbaffy7937 Před 3 dny +1

      @@chrisjarrett4208 Okay I can give you that the Bears got better with Sweat, however I think the move overall is a loss for them. I will elaborate. The combination of a 2nd round pick and the expensive contract IMO was not worth what he did and will do for the Bears. Was the team better last year, yes, will it be better this year, yes. But next year and going forward, no. Sweat is not dominant enough IMO to justify the move. He was traded for at the end of October, the Bears were 2-6, and sure he was the best of what they had, but he was not enough to get the Bears into the playoffs, in fact, they were never even a serious threat to do so because of that 2-6 start. He is 27, so next season when he is 29, and the player they gave the pick up for would be making a larger impact on the field, he will start to enter the realm of where he declines. At best one could argue that he was a locker room / culture move, and it did work out last year. However, going forward he is not good enough to sustain that. On the field, on the tape, he will not be dominant enough to inspire others or set the tone needed to be a true long term locker room piece. Perhaps the Bears locker room and culture was in such bad shape that they can justify the overpay for him. But I just don't see it. The Bears still have one of the worst D-Lines in the NFL and they could have put that contract money to better use by doing things like resigning good players with good character like David Montgomery and Equanimeous St. Brown. And before you point to stats telling me St. Brown was not good let me tell you that Just like Montgomery plays at another level with the Lions, Fields will do so with the Steelers and St. Brown will with his new team too. The gross mismanagement and utilization of offensive players was criminal for the Bears. Hopefully the new offensive coaching staff can do better. But St. Brown was one of the only tone setters the Bears had in terms of a football player, a guy that is going to do the right things for the entire game. Things like blocking down field for your teammates, etc., that is a culture guy. Sweat was just desperation and an overpay in my book. It is not going to make much of a difference ither way in the long run to the outcome of the team with Caleb and the core around him. By the time they hit their prime, and the Bears enter a true contender window, if that happens, Sweat who is just a contributor, will be well onto the decline if he is even still on the team. However, he is likely to have some dead cap the team carries that could have been better utilized elsewhere. It was a shortsighted move on a team that knew they were likely to draft a QB and enter another rebuild / reload phase. Poles has been good, but not great. The fact that Eberflus is still there, hanging his hat on good LB and secondary play when the DL has been horrible and the offensive coaching has been just that, offensive... For the good moves I like that Poles makes, mostly in the draft, there are other moves like the trades and free agent signings along with coaching retention that far outweigh that. In the long run, if he keeps drafting well the Bears will be there, but when his strength is in the draft and he keeps making short term moves like Sweat, Claypool and overpaying at the LB position, he is playing to his weaknesses there. To be fair, in general most trades and free agent signings do not work out well. So I also am not calling Sweat a loss. It is just that the timing of it is off. Another young, talented player in that core for the Bears, coming up with Caleb, would have been the better move, especially when you consider some of the good veteran leadership the Bears could have kept that they let walk out the door that would have made more of an impact in culture and locker room than Sweat all I see is a lose / lose / lose for the Bears with this move. Edit: Consider that you gave up on Cooper DeJean (Including the nest two DE's Kneeland and Braswell along with several DT's too, including Smith, Jenkins, and Hall) and everyone drafted after him to get Sweat, and could have kept Montgomery and St. Brown and others.

      @@stevenbaffy7937 Sweats deal is just a four year deal, with about $42 mil guaranteed, which is less than half the total value. It's a good deal really, considering the cost of pass rushers these days. There's also virtually no one criticizing this deal other than you (no offense). You talk about losing veteran leadership with St Brown and Monty... hello? Sweat is that guy. And he's 28 this season not 29, people get older each year by one year, not two (27 this season, 29 next season??). You can't talk about trading for a vet being a bad move, especially when they perform well, and then talk about it also being bad letting good character guys to. And what do you
      mean overpaying linebackers? For the cost of one Roquan Smith, they wind up with Edwards and Edmunds. Edmunds was so so sure, but TJ was fantastic. And I hated losing St Brown, he was a great leader and a great blocker.

      @@chrisjarrett4208You actually made my point about the SOB. Yes they absolutely should have been 2-0 against the Lions, and we're it not for that 2-6 start, where they tried to force Justin Fields to be a drop back passer, instead of building an offense to his strengths like the Ravens did with Lamar, they would have made the playoffs, not the Packers. But Enerflus and the coaches get in the way of winning. To some degree all coaches will, Dan Campbell had a couple losses on him too. But overall, his decisions win the for the Lions much more than they cost them. But the Bears coaches are opposite of that. The Bears actually have a good roster, I like a lot of your players and would have liked them to be Lions, but not Sweat. Sure he would have fit here just fine, but any 2nd round pick made would have the potential to be a much greater impact, and would have been cheaper. Your looking at the tree, not the forrest.

    Lions take the division. They're SB favourites, alongside the other elite.
    Packers get a WC. They're very good, and should be better this year, but are still a step below the Lions.
    Bears just miss out on a WC. Caleb is good, but he's a rookie: few have CJ like seasons. He will struggle, and learn, and grow, and the Bears are set up to do very well in years to come.
    Vikings look like a mess. Their new QB is less talented than Caleb, and will take time to grow into his position. As long as he shows forward progress, this year will go down as a success even if they do not win many games.

    Don't sleep on the Vikes. Last time Darnold started he went 4-2 including a 30+ smashing of the Lions late in 2022 when they were on a tear. And new Packer's RB ran for 56 yards last time out against the Vikes for the Raiders in Vegas.
    Remember the Vikes are only an immobile QB with an Achilles injury removed from a 13-4 demolition of the division.
