  • I don't know what to call this genre, it kinda sits between a lot of the stuff I listened to 🤷🏻‍♂️ Regardless, now I have enough synths, need more drums. Really torn between the TR-8S and the MPC right now. Latter has the drum plugin which could do a lot of the heavy lifting and it has the sequencer too but TR-8S has the speed and the motion recording for live use. MPC feels more of a studio solution, I just want to bang out tunes. Guess I need both 😄

We used to call it tech house at the 90s, as in house beats and elements, but techno at the core. Modern tech house is just so different, I have no idea what to call it 😁

Thank you! It got a bit more extended than I wanted, wasn't sure how the lead was going to play out so recorded first 2/3 with the intention of cutting the last part out if it didn't work. The microfreak keybed is fiddly to say the least 😁

what mixer is that? it seems small enough for tabletop but still has enough channels?

I have all the gear listed in the description, it's the Behringer x2222usb with failing (noisy) power supply. I have all the microphone channels in use but one stereo channel is still available. I'm constantly looking for an upgrade, I need another sub group for the synths. And once I get tr8s or the MPC, I need more channels or have to retire something 😅

Drumbrute Impacts kick is the source, I run it to the mdx-2000 left channel at the bottom. Then I run the compressed kick signal to sidechain inputs of the rest of the compressors using patch cables and the patchbay. I think on this one I have the Circuits samples and synths and the Impacts percussion group running sidechained, but the impacts hihats go out compressed but without the sidechain. The TD-3 is heavily sidechained but the effect is still kind of subdued as it integrates so well with the kick. Since I only do it once, it's difficult to spot but at 04:46 I mute the kick at the source, which allows the synths go open for one step. The synth with the most prominent pumping (Circuits nova synth engine) with the filter automation runs to mdx-2000 and it can do pretty tight pumping when asked, maybe even more so than the 3630. I have the 3630 as the drum subs master, because I really like the slam it adds into the mix. So basically all the drums are parallel compressed also and most of the individual channels run into the behringers.
