    As a french speaking guy I am, I didn't know the meaning of harvest. So when I saw your video's cover picture I thought "Is he really gonna taste all these peppers like he does with apples? Wow, he's a hero! (but there must be firefighters around with a tank full of milk and sugar to put the flames out of his mouth.)" 😂😂😂 One more good video, thanx Mark 👍😉 I almost can't eat peppers, only sweet ones, but it's really interesting as always.

    That's a great haul of peppers, but seeing those green plants and grass sure increases spring fever in February while everything is covered in snow drifts. I'm ready to trade the snow shovel for a garden shovel. lol

    Wow! What a harvest! What does the lemon drop pepper taste like? I've never heard of those. This video reminds me of the time when I was a kid helping my grandma pick peppers in her garden. She would tell me "Now Paul Wayne...don't touch your face, don't touch your eyes and don't put them in your mouth.....and for God's sake, was your hands before you pee!" Did I listen? Nope...sure didn't. I'll not say what happened....but...what a lesson I learned! Grandma is always right! Watching you handle those peppers, I was like....don't touch your face....don't touch your face Mark!!!!

    • @marksgardenlife5971
      @marksgardenlife5971  Před 2 lety +1

      Haha yes,
      that's definitely something that you only need to be taught a few times before you learn.
      The lemon drop is too hot for me to personally be an accurate gauge for flavor. But a friend of mine who can eat habaneros like candy says they have the best flavor of all the ones I've grown so far.
      Thanks so much for your support!

    Hey 👋 Mark!
    So good to see you again in a new video and boy that is some amount of chili 🌶 you got last season, there all look so beautiful and even the plant looks so green and strong too. Hope you’re doing well, unfortunately I tested positive to COVID on Sunday so I have been at home in my room for days and luckily it’s not too bad in fact it is less then when I have a cold.
    My bell peppers 🫑 are doing so well and all my tomatoes are also doing well and I can’t wait to show you at the end of our season what I ended up with 😃

    Great video as usual, always educational with that welcoming vibe. For those who are able to do what gives them joy, cherish it. Down this side in Trinidad we grow a lot of HOT- scotch bonnets, habanero, congo peppers ,scorpion peppers, bird pepper (it grows wild in the garden), jalapenjo and some other hot ones. We love the heat, if not seasoning food with it, in many dishes we place a whole half ripe congo pepper in the pot just give that spicy caribbean flavour, many are made into hot flavourful pepper sauces, or we roast them served as a condiment with "Doubles" one of our amazing street side foods. In the non Hot bracket Pimento peppers ( an absolutely great seasoning pepper) , bell peppers and sweet peppers. So your pepper choices have peaked my curiosity, will try to grow the "Lemon drop" and maybe the "banana pepper" hopefully I get that kind of yield. Thanks Mark ! Happy Gardening .

      Wow, this is great stuff! I have never been to the Caribbean so hearing about the different food profiles from a local is very rewarding and inspiring. You've just reminded me of one called sheepnose pimento which I grew years ago and really liked. I'll have to add it back onto the list.
      Thank you so much for sharing Andre!

      Yes, I was pleased with the harvest. I can't say I have a go to dish with peppers, but I do like using sweet peppers in with many dishes and I really like Jalapenos with macaroni and cheese. Not to many, but just enough to give it a little bite. How things over your way? Thanks for watching/ commenting!

    Another good video. Nice looking harvest! Looking forward to hearing what you are growing this season. For hotter peppers, I am trying a mix (for fun), my usual poblano and sugar rush peach. Monster Gum Peach Leopard, cubanelle. Ordered some seeds from Finland for the Sugar Rush Stripey, hope I actually receive them... I don't have much of a taste for raw hot peppers (I am a baby), but I am expanding my tolerance for heat by making some hotter dishes.
    I hope you do a video of how you make hot sauce, I think a lot of people would love to see that process. Thanks again, Mark.

    Thanks for sharing Mark, the Jamaican hot chocolate was one of the peppers I grew up on. You dear not act like you want to use too much of it, just a small piece will give you all the heat that you need. My family uses spices alot, it is said that Indians love spicy food and so this is why even at a tender age my taste buds got accustomed to the flavor of those peppers.

    Hey Mark - great video as always. I had only two small pepper plants this year - one Anaheim chili and one jalapeno that they gave me a great fall harvest. Ended up making chili rellenos with the Anaheims and then a lot of salsa with the jalapenos and gifted the rest. I ended up not pulling out my plants and they are still producing - being in AZ, I guess I could do that. My question for you is do you keep your pepper plants. I heard they have a shallow root system and you can actually trim them back to the the first "Y" in the stem and dig them up and pot them and then replant in the Spring. Just wondering if you ever tried this. I wish I had the space to do so many varieties of peppers!

    Hello Mark, nice pepper harvest. Just last night I pulled out some I'd dehydrated to use in pasta sauce. Unfortunately I'd mislabeled what I expected to have been a mix of sweet chocolate and Marconi Rosso. They were cayene and Jalapeños which made the sauce a lil bit spicy but still pretty flavorful. Those are the hottest I grow and will eat. Take care

    For a pretty pepper that tastes good. Forms a small bush. Try Aji Charapita. I got mine From baker creek. The round orange peppers were really pretty on the plant
    And tasted good. Spicy and fruity. I froze them in a pint container to cook with. But the plant itself was attractive too. Could be planted anywhere

    Hi Mark, great harvest! How do you keep the critters at bay so they don't use your garden as their smorgasbord? I've addressed the deer, but it's the squirrels, chipmunks, and raccoons that I don't know what to do about!

    • @marksgardenlife5971
      @marksgardenlife5971  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey BH!
      I was surprised at the size of the harvest. I've been lucky so far with the garden and pest. It does have a fence surrounding it with wire fence attached to the wood fence. I did have a family of rabbits raised in the garden last year, but I left them alone. The mother dug a hole under the wire to get in and out. I figured after all the work she went to, leave her be. I have a lot of squirrels down around the house, but they haven't made their way to the garden and if the raccoons have climbed the fence, I haven't noticed any damage yet. Thanks for watching/commenting!

      @marksgardenlife5971  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there!
      I would recommend almost any type of habanero for production and vigor.
      If you're looking for fruit size, the hot sunset hybrid was a good one for me this year. There are also some large cayenne's out there that would probably be a good fit.
      If you can find a good open pollinated variety that you like, grow the seed out yourself (make sure you isolate it by like 800ft or so, or by some other means of avoiding cross pollination) and continue this over several seasons...
      If you save the seeds from only the best plants year after year, you will evolve the genes into a strain that is best suited for your exact growing conditions.
      I hope this helps.
      Good luck to you Clive!
      Thanks for reaching out!

      I have a video on what is in the soil in these beds... the link is below. "Building Garden Soil For Raised Beds. My Recipe for Success". That video pretty much explains everything.... Thanks so much for watching Kai!

    When drying these peppers do you cut them open? I have sometimes the problem that some of the thicker ones with more flesh can develop mold inside while drying...

      Hi Henning!
      I have heard of cutting them open, but I find that high airflow and low heat works pretty well. Sometimes mold happens to some, I think the best way to avoid this completely is to use a food dehydrator.

    Cannot tolerate the hot peppers but do always grow jalapenos for friends who like them.

      Jalapenos always seem to be a popular one with people. They've been first choice for people visiting my garden for sure.
      Thanks John,
