Rookie of the Year Henry Rowengartner Breaks Down Iconic "Floater" Pitch to Clinch Playoffs for Cubs

- At just 12 years old, Henry Rowengartner was, however improbably, signed by the Chicago Cubs as a pitcher. His fastball helped turn around the Cubs season. Before he took the mound in a game against the Mets that could secure the Cubs a spot in the playoffs, a trip and fall caused his arm to give out. Rowengartner shares the creative ways he got through the inning without his fastball, including the story behind his iconic "floater" pitch that resulted in the final out. In an all new episode of The Breakdown, presented by CDW, we get every detail of the story 30 years later.

“Gardenhoser! Warm up, you’re going in!” 😂
"Runamucker"
@@rjflesher that was what I came here to say. 😂😂
At first I thought "really?" But when I saw the seriousness just like all the others... genius. I love it.
Hi, I'm looking for Henry Rulingferder.
Ravenbooser... Your locker is over here.
I still watch and love Rookie of the Year, even in my midlife.
I live in South, Texas, and became a True Blue Cubs Fan since my first grade year back in 1990.
In those days, WGN was a Superstation along with TBS, and WGN would broadcast the games, home and away, nationally. I can still vividly remember laying on the floor in front of those massive tvs with the vinyl player in it, with the channel knob which had about 300 digits in it for some reason (even though we only had like 17 channels with basic cable haha) watching Cubs games with Harry Caray while doing homework and eating a sandwich with Doritos and onion dip.
I just fell in love with the history, and the wonderful fans from those days: The Lovable Losers & The Bleacher Bums. The atmosphere, even when the Cubs had absolutely dreadful standings and were last in the division, were awesome! Just such a friendly and lively aura at the stadium the way a baseball event should be.
I truly never fathomed the holy grail of baseball would come to my team in 2016. All the years of ridicule for my love in the Cubs team became all worth it many moons down the line and it felt phenomenal.
Thank you to the state of Texas for not making Ranger and Astro games available to view throughout the entire state early on in my youth, which allowed this Texan to have the privilege to become a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan till the day I retire from this odessy we call life!
"Hey, Kid! Where's your mom sitting? This one's for mommy, mommy, mommy!"
*"Go, Cubs, Go!"*
Diehard Cubbies fan, this is now one of may favorite videos of all time. Greatest return yet! 🐻🏆
Words cannot express how much I love this
As soon as I saw this posted, I was like "They did NOT..." But they certainly DID! Just watched with delight from beginning to end.
Criminally underviewed, one off the best videos CZcams has ever had the honor of playing
This is amazing!! What a memorable season
I love that they put spin rate for each pitch 😂 Cubs social media really digging up all of the stats!
This is by far the coolest s*it any MLB account has or will ever upload. Give a raise to the person who came up with this idea 🔥
Whose idea was this?
This person is genius!!!
As a dodger fan I just love the cubs and their history 👏🫡
As a Life Long Mets Fan, this movie and this Actor got me to be a Baseball Fan and a Ball player myself! Even got to meet Thomas to share what his role meant to me as a kid!
I'm happy now
As a lifelong cubs fan you know we had some hard times when our only hope was some 12 year old kid getting a magical bionic arm 😂
🤣🤣
We'll take it
The best interview EVER!!!! 😍😍😍
I don’t know how I missed this but this is, without question, the single greatest achievement in cinematic history.
BEST. VIDEO. EVER.
Well now I have to watch Rookie of the Year. Been a few years.
Me too, definitely on the docket for tonight
I loved that movie so much! Still do, to this day! Can’t believe the Cubs actually made this, ngl 😂😂😂
That's what the Cubs need, bring Henry back.
dude this is amazing! thank you cubbies
The greatest pitcher in Cubs history. Rosenberger deserves to be in the HOF😂
That was fantastic. That was my first date movie too. ❤
Henry would later partner with Coach Brickma and become the face of RowenBrick Hot-Ice Sports Therapy.
“It’s The Best of Both Worlds!”
Go Thomas Ian Nicholas and go Cubs go!
Brilliant!
I was there.
*FACTS!*
⚾⚾⚾
This is brilliant 😂
Go cubs
I remember going to the movies and seeing that with my dad and brothers. Cause my dad and I are big Cub fans.
Andre Dawson (#8 should be retired-sorry Ian) was my favorite. Been a Cub fan since I was five- 43 years ago. I digress.
My dad was a truck driver and had so many miles under his belt, that they gave him diamonds to put in his company ring. My dads company ring looked like a World Series ring or a Super Bowl ring cause of all the diamonds.
We enjoyed the movie and was headed out the door, until this man saw my dads ring and asked if he was a professional baseball player. He said no. But was funny.
This is awesome
Cubs manager: 👺Rootenbaker get in the game.
Henry: 🤦♂
Me: 😆
Tell ya what.
The Cubs revolutionized technology in baseball. They must have had hidden cameras all over the field, the schools, even Henry's house.
A Special RIP to Cliff Murdoch, the voice of the 1993 Cubs
Heddo was terrifying to us kids lol
Nice
Rosenbagger!
i don’t think i’ve ever heard it called a pitchers “plate” idk why that annoyed me so much😂 but love this movie!
Oh, Bob Gibson, or Early Wynn would definitely say it's theirs. And no batter has any right to go near it. :-)
He will always be Kevin from American pie movie series. Best movie series ever ❤
Good
“Rabinbuser, your locker’s over here.”
حظ موفق كنت رائع ❤️
Not gonna lie, that Asol clip started off strong
what song is that playing
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Imagine if someone thinks this was an actual story lolol
My friend’s kid asked if my movie was based on a real life story after watching this… 😂
Me 😭
Why didn’t the trainer come out?! Hot ice!
“It’s the best of both worlds!!”
"Did he just say 'Funky Buttlovin'?"
lol GIVE HIM THE STINKY CHEESE
First rate production

🌹🌹🌹🌹
3:57 imagine mlb pitchers today do this 💀💀
at this point in time, i'd rather have Rowengartner, or even Thomas Ian Nicholas, the actor, managing the team.
Unfortunately he didn’t pitch enough innings to get any awards😢
This is fuckin hilarious
This is how baseball was before the pitch clock.
تم
this dude now looks like pedro martinez
Wait so that whole rookie of the year movie was real ?
8:40 “I knew we were going to the World Series for the first time in 85 years.”
Wasn’t this just a one game division tiebreaker and still had to play the NLCS?
Also wouldn’t he mean 48 years 😂
This was to win the pennant. Hence the announcer, Cliff Murdoch, saying after we won that we were going to the World Series … 🤷🏻♂️
@@TINBAND Nah cause this logic still ain’t making sense lol
Cause at one point the manager tells Steadman “I’m saving you for the playoffs!”
Like aren’t they already in the playoffs or was the NL just one giant division in general 🤷🏼♂️
@@TINBAND By the way, this took me like half a day to realize THE Henry Rowengartner was the guy who actually replied here!
Like I didn’t even realize the username 😂
@TINBAND @JWex-jy7sk he I think it's because in this history The wild card comes a year early, as was considered, so the teams can meet in the LCS.
Or the announcer is a Ralph kinder and just slips up sometimes :)
Did this really happen
Omg 😂
Make this man a coach, cowards.
If we needed one last final signal from ownership, that there is no intent to ever pay for a competitive team again, it's this break down. The good days are really over for good.
Ray Jackaon. He got tired of kumite.
He could only get Hot Ice from Harry.
..
Ht
Ross has to go.
“Rosenburger!!”
no way first comment can i get this pinned
“Rabbinhoser”
