That movie literally just gave Ugly Sonic an entire Redemption Arc, something no one would expect, like the Spanish Inquisition
Middle aged sonic
*NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION*
MARIO IS GONNA DO SOMETHING VERY ILLIE-
Perhaps Ugly Sonic's story is a more positive counterpart to that of Bobby's. While it is basically unacceptable to turn such a tragic real-life story onto that of a cartoon villain, I feel like Ugly Sonic represents how you can still do everything you can to get out of a situation like that, and eventually succeed.
3 DAYS UNTIL MARIO STEALS YOUR LIVER WAHOOOO
The best part of Ugly Sonic is that he was depicted positively in the movie. He's "with the joke" so he isn't entirely hurt with the ridicule and him being enthusiastic in scoring a show with the FBI shows that he hasn't given up in life.
That's why it was a smart move to add him
That honestly fits with actual Sonic to a degree, with him either being in on the joke or accepting, but not letting that stop him. And in the end it pays off with him and the FBI.
It's in perfect contrast with Peter pan who let it affect him and it all went downhill
Hopefully he doesn't start making the unholy trinity do his dirty work for him like the FIB does
" You cant hurt my feelings if I'm in on the joke " - Ugly Sonic
The fact that Chip and Dale's Sonic was likable shows that it wasn't that we found the character ugly, the design didn't fit Sonic's personality.
This design looks like a depressed middle aged version of sonic
Include the fact this one was definitely intentional
The design works in this context, everybody found the character ugly because it was an abomination
@@StormTeeVee yeah but they could have just made him better and still fulfill the same roles
@@smolchungus9213 well the character from what I’m getting is like a parody of the original sonic design. If they wanted to make a better sonic to parody they would’ve chosen the revised version yk
Great job addressing the Bobby Driscoll issue. It's a Disney film, you're telling me amongst the hundreds of people involved in making this movie no one brought it up? Or worse they just don't care.

Two things to note:
- The Ugly Sonic model was provided by the same company who did the CGI work for Chip N' Dale and the first Sonic movie. It's likely they were allowed to use the model as Paramount nor Sega wanted to use or claim it ever again (likely either meaning Ugly Sonic is a Disney character or he's now part of the public domain).
- With that, Ugly Sonic is completely separate from regular Sonic. There's a line Ugly Sonic says where he says "Oh you want me to go fast? That's Sonic's thing. Ugly Sonic goes slow, baby!" which adds so much lore to the movie Sonic universe.
Update: Through a leaked storyboard, Ugly Sonic's role was originally going to be Jar Jar Binks!
Also confirms that Chip 'n' Dale and the whole Disney universe is in the same universe as Sonic the Hedgehog.
@@GhostSamaritan Rather, that the Sonic the Hedgehog Movie is another film in the Chip and Dale universe. Just like their show was only a show, and not an actual caper crew.
This is not how copyright laws work.
I wouldn't doubt SEGA will let Disney make a series of him
@@marihanderkhan5663 I remember sonic saying he would destroy every copyright law in the universe so
I wouldn't mind it if they embraced this Sonic as his own version
The problem with the og design is that it was supposed to be THE Sonic meanwhile in this one he's just an ugly guy who lost an audition
You placed a lot of people's opinions cleanly right here, nice.
Honestly, you completely nailed my thoughts on the topic. Even down to capitalization of THE.
Not even lost an audition he got the lead role in a blockbuster franchise starter only to be cut from the movie and recast
It's low-key hilarious how ugly sonic is actually kind of likeable too, also that Peter Pan/Bobby driscol story is very meta, the creators definitely knew what they were doing
The problem with it referencing Bobby, is how they're framing Peter Pan as the villain in the show, in a way mocking Bobby and his life, which is really sad.
It'd be worse if they didn't even know about Bobby in the first place. Many many people just learned about his story until now, so the possibility that even higher-ups didn't know about him because in the past Disney tried to forget about him and erase any memory of him within the company is pretty plausible. Alas, we probably will never know.
@@CianHue no, the creators knew about bobby so they made the story as a meta commentary on how disney treated him and another child actors

The difference is that Ugly Sonic would never work in a Sonic film. But in a cartoony parody crossover film where his entire personality is different from Sonic's? He does.

What’s interesting about the “corruption” of childhood icons is that Disney did the exact opposite early on, by making most of their stories less morbid than theirs original counterparts.
In the original version of Pinocchio, he was hung to death after becoming a real boy. I can’t imagine how much worse the whole child slavery part was, and I frankly don’t want to.
I don't remember that part, old time fairy tales were grim as fuck.

Came for the meme, stayed for the truth and sad history of Peter Pan's voice actor. Shame how Disney treated him.
He died, homeless and alone and by the time they found him, he was already so decomposed that they couldn't identify him until much later 😭😭 there was no justice 💔💔
I don't think the statement that Disney threw him away was really fair. He was hired for a voice role. If they recast him 'around the time he got acne' it was most likely because his voice also changed. Not because of cooperate evil. Disney is probably an evil mega corp, but is not really and example of that.
@@xerotolerant Really it's just a shame that a super corporation doesn't have any programs for further employment in that situation
@@Jairjax it is pretty sad. I certainly recognize that. But he basically a young man who lost his job. If he was working for Burger King this conversation wouldn’t even have been happening. He became depressed which is sad. But really what was Disney to do?
Same. I just read his story on Wikipedia, no one could identify the body when people found him. It was only after his mother was trying to look for him she found him through fingerprint matching.
The fact that they depicted him as a villain is too deliberate of a choice not to be some kind of shitty statement from an awful corporation.
I don't know, it feels more like the higher ups signed off on it not knowing, but the people making it wanted to draw public attention to disney's past actions.
Or it's meant to be a sideways snipe at Disney for treating their child stars like trash
@@whatzittooya9012 Yeah, but to a general audience, a villain is a bad person. It could be meta commentary, but the reality is, most people will take "villain bad" as "villain bad," not "corporate greed made the so-called 'villain' and he's actually innocent."

He become somekind of chimera, monstrosity by fusions of some character like Transformers, Woody, Wreck it Ralph, etc. then he’s imprisoned and equiped with restraint like Hannibal Lecter so no, no redemption for him.
He’s canon now. He’s ascended Bad Box Art Mega Man and became a secondary character to a major Disney film.
You can’t help but feel proud of him. I want him in Smash.
Maybe because his design isn't fit a main character but instead a side character because you wouldn't want a Sonic movie where the main character is this but in a spinoff, he is greatly welcome
Ugly Sonic's personality fits so perfectly in Chip n Dale. Sonic in that oh so bizzare trailer had classic Sonic's personality which didn't really match that very ugly appearance.
Sonic: I thought you were dead.
Ugly Sonic: My death was, greatly exaggerated.
Ugly sonic returning feels unreal

What about ugly sonic making you pregant? Is that real?
Really if they wanted a villain for the movie, the Mad Doctor from the old Mickey Mouse shorts would've been a great candidate.
Bootlegging sounds like something he'd probably do, after not getting work for almost 90 years.
The writers probably used this to basically try to point out Disney's perpetual habit of mistreating it's child actors, and the mistreatment of child actors in hollywood in general too.
@@joshjo9405 though it was handled pretty badly lol. You don't make victims into villains with no redemption arcs that get put away like Hannibal Lector. 🤣
@@kairi4640 It wasn't your standard run-of-the-mill villain, some people in real life can become bad if mistreated, and they are not always to just magically learn from their mistakes and redeem themselves, this shows that abuse towards a person can affect them for life, and issues like these should not be ignored.
@@yc.g6140 and like I said it was handled horribly at the end lol. It made it out to be a joke by making him look like Hannibal Lector and keeping him caged up like some animal that he himself created and Disney had no part in it. That's how they made it out to be. At most they should have shown something like him getting help in the end, etc. Or like another billion ways, or even better, not have him be a villain in the first place. They redeemed freaking ugly Sonic for crying out loud lol. Can't tell me they could have handled it more creatively after that lol.

2. take inspiration from the ruined life and make a villain out of it xD

The fact they only had to call him Ugly Sonic to redeem him is amazing
I didn't know the story about Peter's VA either before this movie, and knowing it just makes it feel a lot more disingenuous. Like, Disney is the one responsible for perpetuating this culture of "discarding child actors" and they mock it? Granted I haven't seen the movie yet, so I don't know if they address it tastefully and give it a proper resolution.
If what I read is true, they don't
I'm sure Disney has problems, but I don't think the claim that they did the Peter Pan voice actor dirty is fair. He was hired for a voice role. The acne bit was obviously irrelevant. His voice probably changed due to puberty. He was recast. What was Disney to do really?
@@xerotolerant At least read the stories before you make dumbass claims

@@Lucien_M That's why it's funny, the creators can get away with it because they made peter pan the villain. Otherwise they will be forced to change the script.
@@edba1.037 no, that's literally the opposite of what I mean. Disney's the last company which can get off the hook for that, as they allowed someone to die yet still thought it was fit to turn into a character's backstory.
If any other company did this(the Peter Pan backstory) then there would be less controversy, as they might be justified as pointing out Disney's faults.
It's a lot different from joking about making a bad design(I.e. Ugly Sonic), as what they did(with Bobby Drizzle) ruined his life, rather than simply making a bad choice and laughing it off with him
TL;DR You can't joke- or make a plot point- out of ruining a real person's life
@@Lucien_M The story was meant to tell the audience about how Disney ruined their child actors life which was disguised as a joke so they can get away with it.
I think using ugly sonic is also a great recycling feat. I'm pretty sure after the studio shelved ugly sonic, they probably just wrote off his model. Then later, they manage to bring him back as a full character in something else. They managed to not completely waste their time and money with ugly sonic.
This feels like two video ideas mashed together.

The fact that Ugly Sonic was designed to be aged up and not exactly a Sonic, but a "look a like" makes it more funny that he acknowledges the fact that, "No, that's Sonic's thing." Glad he was happy to move up into his own thing in life, thats something I didn't expect at all.
Planning to watch the movie just for Ugly Sonic 👌

What? Please reply to me!
This movie will be remembered for its memes and tragic dark reference of Disney making an icon homeless. I'm not surprised but I did not expect that.
It's like that one cringe memory you have, pretend it never existed and it will always come back
I liked this movie, tho I understand why some people don’t. It almost felt like Disney was flexing their power and showing off that they can buy multiple characters from other film companies. They also took a lot of shots at other film companies, but never had the humility to make fun of themselves. Disney certainly has its flaws, but they believe they’re the Messiah of animation.
I feel like the writers made the villain as a criticism of Disney's horrible and somewhat scammy practices. Also the realistic cgi stuff reminds me of the live action movie recreations that disney has been doing for the past decade.
*"You're ugly"* -A certain texan man who loves building sentries
I thought Sanic is ugly. But Ugly Sonic is uglier
At least he become hated so the Sonic we know and love can succeed xD
Someone give the guy who put it in a raise.
I mean, could have the Peter Pan thing also be intentional showing Disney’s dark side?
I for one, thought that the movie was really interesting. It’s definitely built around for kids, but tons of dark themes, such as drug addiction, human trafficking, segregation, corruption etc. But using what would seem to be the entire life of Bobby Driscoll that they ruined as a plot point for their villain either makes it that much darker, or if they don’t care, really fucked up.
And as for ugly sonic, some people might argue that Sonic’s character didn’t have the same arrogant personality. Well, arrogance isn’t really a personality trait worth having when you look like ugly sonic, so it makes sense that he seems a little depressed. But the whole thing wraps up nicely in the end!

Sweet Pete is taking his revenge on Disney but he did it in an illegal manner that sucked in other animations.
He is TECHNICALLY not the villain but he made himself one.
Thank you for the lesson as always.
On a less related note, I really hate how this film represented '2D' animation as cel-shaded '3D' animation instead of putting part of the budget on actual 2D animation. I mean, they could've even used tweening and it'd still be a better fit for representing 2D animation (even if mostly just 21st century animation) than cel-shaded 3D the likes of Dragon Ball Super Heroes.
Heavy agree, it even has a muppet character that is also CGI and yet tries to play it off as a real puppet. Lying to the audience about what it is not instead of putting in the extra effort.
Shut the fuck up, it's just a kid's movie, it doesn't matter!

The OG design of live-action Sonic is so horrendous that Paramount decided to give him away to Disney so they hired Tyson Hesse for a redesign. It's no wonder why Ugly Sonic ends up living in the Disney universe.

Dude was as corrupt as any man could be. He had connections to countless politicians and legal officials to keep anyone outside off his ass too. Completely butchered copyright.
For those who claim Peter Pan’s story being similar to Bobby Discroll’s is just an accident by Disney I just wanna point out that the chances of that being true is next to none. Not only could it have been any Disney character, but literally any of the characters from all the film companies they bought for this movie. And why make him the villain?!
